RK3 Designs is a learning studio focused on teaching how to create beautiful epoxy finishes using Stone Coat Countertop Epoxy. These tutorials include epoxy countertops for kitchens, bathrooms, and much more. This channel provides tutorials for DIYers, contractors, designers, or artists.
Rhonda Dracoulis Founder and Primary Instructor
RK3 Designs started as a way for Rhonda to showcase her creativity but has blossomed into a way to help others find theirs. Her obsession with painting led her to start refinishing furniture and kitchen cabinets. She found customers wanted a nicer option than laminate but more affordable and customizable than natural stone, which lead her to countertop epoxy! Since then, she’s helped thousands of students, from across the country (and even Canada eh?).
If you prefer a more hands-on learning experience, book a class with Rhonda today: www.RK3designs... RK3 offers numerous classes that cater to different levels of experience.

The biggest hug for this tutorial Rhonda. Just completed my kitchen bench way over here in New Zealand. It looks so realistic. My very first epoxy project but wont be my last. Just got the UTC to put on. It is super expensive in NZ but I want the matt finish.

Hi I am new to your channel. You came highly recommended, and I can see why! This copper finish is stunning. I love the rustic farmhouse look so I could see this in so many places. Wouldn't it look beautiful as a backsplash behind the stove! I can see it for built in shelves with a desk. And of course, your idea of a island in a kitchen. I'm afraid my kitchen is to small that it may be too dark...but I love copper so maybe not. Just not what I was expecting to see!!! I am looking forward to binge watching your video's. Thanks Sandie

I’m so glad to see this! I used Modern Masters on my countertop. I sponged it on to look hammered, then when I was dry, I rubbed in a little General Finishes water based dark stain all over, rubbing until the stain just remained in the “hammered” indentations. When the stain got too dry, I’d moisten my rag the tiniest bit. So very similar process and products! I love it. I can see how glaze would be better bc it has a better “open time.” I top coated it, but when I can afford the epoxy, I’ll sand it lightly and epoxy over it.

I'm surprised the epoxy didn't lift up the residual mica powders since its left on the surface. Pretty interesting technique, I hate working tissue with paint. I use gel gloss for texture because it dries clear and mixes really well with mica powders to add shiny color. I'm betting if I spread it with a spatula and go over it with a texture or rag roller I could get a similar look. Think ill give that a try! You're the best at inspiring creative ideas❤ and I love copper most of all!

Thank you for sharing..I love the tip with alcohol and powder pigment mixing effects..i used this tissue technique for making leather look. 😊 or sometimes painting blue and dry brush swipe white loo like jeans.. This rustic copper look also i am sure will amazing on a special enterence doors..😊😊 My question is when you used alcohol and pigment mix what is about left overs.? Can we still keep it in bottle for a while until next work? Thank you..
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, When you mix the alcohol and mica powder it will last forever if you put it in an airtight spray bottle. If the alcohol does evaporate, all you need to do is add a little more.

Hi fabulous work! Question: could you use tinfoil instead of tissue paper for texture?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t use tinfoil unless you seal it. My worry would be the paint wouldn’t have good adhesion.

Absolutely love this, best finish yet!! I'm going to do a copper countertop in my kitchen when I remodel it, and this would be gorgeous. Do you think that a little green glaze in spots would work well with this? I just love a copper and jewel type green combination.

I can see this in a large oval with a "branding iron" look with a family name centered in it in turquoise. (or color of your choice.) Perhaps a few "copper" stud embellishments. I think it would look great over a fireplace or in the middle of an open entertainment center. Some place like ... my living room? 🤣🤗 tfs

Do the paint and glaze need to be water based or oil based in order to react with the alcohol?

How long does the metal color coat need to dry before the glaze layer?
@RK3Designs
@RK3Designs 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the paint you use and the temperature. Usually a few hours, then wait 24 hours before pouring the epoxy after you apply the glaze. You want to make sure the surface is 100% dry.
