I wish I could put my grass clods in the compost. We have Bermuda grass. When I made a new extension to my garden this fall I put all of the sod in a place that wants to wash away in heavy rain along with some dirt that came out with it. Your soil is so easy to dig in. I know you’ve worked hard to get it that way and you wish you had less sand. I have SO many tree roots and rocks to dig out. Great looking edging. I never got mine done when I added to that bed. I’ll pay for that next Spring when I need to do it. Got some bricks from the house that was being torn down next door along with dozens of plants. But then came the flu, a death in the family and Christmas sooo…

Gotta be honest - I thought "a 9 minute video on edging"? But what great info!!!. I usually end up with stuff in my hair somehow... but I've got some pruners like yours that my Dad (long gone now) had. In fact I have a hole punch I need to get repaired somehow. I digress.... Yes, doing the edges is bar none the best thing you can do. Absolutely. Thanks - great info! 😁

Is out of the question..but i still do planting in raised beds and tubs thankfully..thank u for all ur wonderful and informative videos..ur voice is very calming and ur laid back manner is appreciated..

Most of my beds have edging but the areas I edge, I use the clumps of grass I dig up to fill in bare spots in my yard, literally just plug right into the holes and they grow.
@dc0145a4 жыл бұрын
M Wolfe, I do that as well. Over the years, I've managed to do a whole back lawn area with 'clumps of dug up grass'.
@jucjuc3144 жыл бұрын
I do that too! I have planted them once in a box and they filled in perfectly over a few months, than I was able to slice the right size of pieces and put them there, where the grass was missing 😊

M Wolfe That has usually worked great for me too. Sometimes, unknowingly, I've gotten fooled & transplanted deep green crabgrass into my lawn!
@monawolfe4 жыл бұрын
Ric Forero I know what you mean, you have to be careful and know the different types of grasses, which I don’t but I can identify perennial rye & bluegrass so I use those plugs & throw the rest away. I am not a grass expert by any means. That’s why I have holes in my grass in the first place! 😅

Yes! Please do one on this, my husband hates mowing and the only thing I could think of was edging everything with a brick or gravel mowstrip, but that could get expensive. How do you mow along the beds?

@MicheleLHarvey3 жыл бұрын
Nothing better than a cleanly edged bed! For lifting the cut-edged sod (refuse,) I use a garden fork. Once on the fork, you can bang the sod on the ground to rid it of excess soil before composting. A question: when cutting the lawn & especially the newly made edge, how do you keep your lawn mower wheels from dropping into the bed when you mow? Do you mulch to a height so the mower stays level?

Is that the tool that is kind of V-shaped in you sort of drag it in the trench? I'm wondered how those work for people.
@marky31313 жыл бұрын
@@TheImpatientGardener yes it is. It’s really surprisingly effective. Takes a few minutes to figure out how to maximize it. It’s great for creating a nice edge and it cuts small roots easily. I’ve tested it to create a new edge but clearly if u have a bed that at some point had an edge it’s great. Still requires getting down and picking up displaced grass or adjusting the mulch but it is far faster than anything else I’ve tried it’s also useful to keep an edge through the year with just a few minutes work.
