I feel the same way about petunias. I’ve been planting supertunias in two of my front porch pots. Last year was the first year I had thrips on them! It was so hard to control (used Captain Jacks Dead Bug). Flower production was disappointing. This year I went with verbenas in those pots….and they are afflicted with thrips again🤦🏻♀️ I don’t know why. I empty all of my porch pots completely before winter (zone 5b Chicago) to store them. One pot I do leave out and plant it with greens for the winter. I take out half the soil in that pot so I can slip a premade winter arrangement in it. Do you think the thrips are overwintering in that pot?

Can you tell me the name of the willow you mentioned in the first part of your video. I used to have one that I loved but got ruined in a snow storm. I can’t find the name. Thanks.

What is the climbing hydrangea growing on and do you need to give it something to grab onto?
@TheImpatientGardener7 сағат бұрын
It’s growing up the trunk of an ash tree. The tree was alive when I planted it and died (unrelated to the vine) so we topped it high to accommodate the vine. It does the clinging all on its own.

Do you have a view on how these compare with the NewGen varieties of blight resistant boxwoods?

Erin, do you deal with boxwood psyllids? If so, do you do anything or just wait it out?

If I had what I think was boxwood blight last year, can I plant these better boxwoods in the same place now? South Central Ohio’s boxwoods were hit hard with something.

Please don't trap the bunny and relocate it. Your garden is plenty big for the both of you. Their life span is quite short anyway, not to mention it's really kind of inhumane. I have rabbits in my very small garden every year, but I learned to peacefully coexist with them. I know not all people share the same opinion when it comes to animals, so I'm kindly asking you to reconsider.

Boxwood do add a great texture to our garden and love the evergreen part of them. I saw a unique planting the other day, it was formal, but inspired me with a good idea. They had boxwood hedge, square, surrounding Persicaria Mountain Fleece plant. My Persicaria was flopping forward, so I put a smaller leafed perennial in front of it. Good contrast.

I laughed when you said gardeners are optimistic about plants not falling over. I was just thinking a few minutes before i watched this that my tickseed should be okay without staking because i planted it in front of my fence. I’d better go tie it up lol

When I saw your post that you had Boxwoods bight a ways back, I was very nervous . I have a lot of Boxwoods approx. 20 years old in my gardens. I watched what you were doing very closely I 'm very happy that you have found a way to grow Boxwoods and things are looking optimistic .Not so much for me , late last summer I had 4 huge Boxwoods suddenly defoliate and die. On inspection I found caterpillars, webbing, and with guidance from the Cornell Coop.Extension I found Boxwood Tree Moths. I did everything they told me to do. We injected with Systemic , fed, and monitored . I watched with trepidation as the spring foliage started to bloom. Things looked ok, then we got a hot 88 degree day in May -within 48 hours all my Boxwoods were gone. I lost approximately 25-30 large Boxwoods, even the newer little ones I had planted a few years back. Gone. We ripped everything out and I have started to search for options to replace my Boxwoods - not an easy chore. My sadness is hard to describe , most gardeners would understand. Folks beware, my little town in the edge of Lake Ontario is the first to have this Moth , an import from Canada. It may very well spell disaster for Boxwoods here and everywhere.

I am so very sorry this has happened to your boxwoods. The high temps here in East TN have been devastating to plant material. Best wishes for your future plantings.

Import from Canada? We understand it came from Asia, via the United States and entered Canada from the US through Niagara Falls.

I'm concerned about them being only down to zone 5. Even though I'm in a MA zone 6 we get polar vortex winds once or twice a winter and it takes out my zone 5 shrubs and plants.

Hi Erin! Thanx for another friendly stroll around your garden, what a fun way to start a day 😊 Love the containers on the deck, purple bell vine really took off early this year and already looking stunning, I think it will cover the arbor in no time. Tokyo skies aspidistra is a real stunner! Gardens are looking amazing, irises the creek are loving their life, great addition! Can’t wait for another videos. Happy gardening!

Daylilies are pretty on someone else’s garden! I had some originally too and gave them to someone who liked them. My redbud is doing ok but I can’t grown anything beneath it because of the root system. I replaced a weeping cherry with it. And I made the horrible mistake of picking up a capanula from Facebook marketplace. The first year was beautiful - it was just one single plant that flowered. The woman told me don’t worry it will multiply…welp as soon as I saw it multiplying across the garden I began my fight lol. It has been 3 years now. There is one more that I got from my grandma. She called it buttercup but I don’t think k so. It is elongated oval leaves alternating up the stem and ending in a group of yellow small petaled flowers. It grows by rhizomes!!! Same fight as the campanula. Oh and one more - a free fern I received from a coworker. The three original plants were beautiful…until they spread throughout the grass and firewood area and between brick pavers…

Hey Erin! Have you heard of or have any experience with the new firefly petunias? They glow in the dark! They found a chemical in a naturally bioluminescent mushroom that they were able to breed into the flowers somehow. So cool! Can’t wait to see what other plants they might try it on!!
