I've found we do the reading so we can convey the information to people with more nuance for the situation. Since people hate having a book shoved in their face but if you condense a couple general ideas from the book then once they've started to open up then start to maybe suggest the book or similar resources. Not everyone has to time or capacity to fully read books so it can be a super helpful and I've found it's helped friends of mine. Also ensures you actually make sure to understand the text too

The real battle is you gotta get them to care about the truth in what they believe in; after that, they'll do the work for you with some gentle nudging and prodding to make sure they get exposed to factual information. The sad truth of the matter is that most of them are not interested in intellectually engaging with their beliefs, they like the veneer of intellectualism (and even that is fading) but, ultimately, it's all borne out of fear of losing their power (i.e. their privilege).

describing Destiny as “contrarian figurehead who falsely portrays himself as an intellectual” is spot on. the dude has a high school education / breadth of understanding, but his whole brand is LARPing as a guy who just took his first 300+ level undergrad course. I tried watching one of his streams a few weeks ago, and he started throwing around the word “simulacrum” like a dozen times, in a way where it was fairly obvious he’d just learned it and was taking it out for a spin… as a dude in his late 30s. at this rate maybe he’ll start describing everything as “the panopticon” by the time he’s 40 haha.

The housing minister in the post war years was a Welsh socialist member of the Labour Party called Aneurin Bevan (nicknamed Nye Bevan, the Nye pronounced like Nigh) who also spearheaded the foundation of our NHS as a comprehensive universal healthcare system free at the point of use based on this thing called the Beveridge Report published during WW2 about the best ways to reconstruct the country after the war. Nye was a trade unionist; he’d worked tirelessly to organise and collectivise his hometown in Wales, the coal miners, the doctors and nurses in his town’s hospitals, and used that experience when he went into govt. Dude was proper based! There’s a great quote by him about his dreams for public housing unifying rather than dividing people, taken from a speech in 1949 concerning a bill about housing: “if we are to enable citizens to lead a full life, if they are each to be aware of the problems of their neighbours, then they should be all drawn from the different sections of the community and we should try to introduce in our modern villages what was always the lovely feature of English and Welsh villages, where the doctor, the grocer, the butcher and farm labourer all lived in the same street. I believe that is essential for the full life of a citizen. I believe it is a necessary biological background for modern life and I believe it leads to the enrichment of every member of the community to live in communities of that sort.” It helped break down barriers between people of different backgrounds like no one’s business, to quote him again, that along with the NHS were “pieces of real socialism”

I’ve had to redouble my efforts to stay on “leftist KZbin”. My advice to anyone trying to leave the Right is this; the fact that you’re seeking alternative sources means youre on your way out. Keep at it and learn to love yourself and others. Taxes should be imposed on the rich, that man/woman doesn’t like you bc you don’t respect others and you need a shower or two, wanting a simple life is not a bad thing but cutting yourself off from the world is. When will the youth understand that right wing populism is the cause of their austerity? Neo-liberalism is just the evolutionary successor to feudalism. Democracy, freedom & prosperity are in direct conflict with capitalism & liberalism as liberalism = conservatism. The USA has done such a sterling job subverting these concepts/ideologies that even the European & Anglospheric youth believe their BS. In the King's English, a liberal is a right winger as they wish to conserve/preserve their institutions of peerage & the nobility. The Labour movement is aligned with socialism/progressivism to break down the role of gender, classism & the institutional barriers created by the system to unfairly discriminate against those without power or marginalised by it. Sadly the Labour Party in the UK does not deserve the nomenclature anymore as the Labour Party was gutted during Thatcher, liberated very briefly by Corbyn who would be regarded right of the Labour Party of Clement Attlee. The only Labour Party hanging on by a tiny thread in the Anglosphere is that of New Zealand which has to fiddle up first to the neo-liberals. Keir Starmer & his entire cabinet are neo-liberals, so yes, your suffering will increase until you elect members of parliament who represent you & your interests.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION Jordan Peterson characterised relative poverty as “when the guy next door has a better car than you”. This is so misleading to the point of being a lie. Relative poverty is based on wealth disparity within your society. Relative poverty can (and does) have an effect on things like food, as well as literally everything else. While you may be well off compared to someone in a poorer country, within your own society you can’t afford most things due to pricing and wealth disparity between the richest and poorest. This leads to those who are relatively poor being essentially locked out of their own society, you need to make a certain amount of money in order to participate within society, so if you don’t make that amount you end up locked out of health care, locked out of social activities, blocked from receiving healthy food etc. When you can’t participate in your society In a meaningful way, social mobility just isn’t realistic and you’re stuck in that position. This leads to worse living conditions, worse physical and mental health etc, which in turn all leads to more crime. Relative poverty isn’t just not having as nice a car as the guy next door, because if your middle class and the guy next door is upper middle class, you are still living above the relative poverty line To finish this off, this is incredibly important for Americans, since the USA has literally one of the worst relative poverty rates out of all 1st world nations. Like it’s REALLY bad, the US isn’t even in the top 30

Then these KZbinrs started talking about how everything new was woke. They gave an explanation where I had none. For a while, it seemed like a satisfying answer. Luckily I had really progressive friends. They never did anything specific, it was just being around them that helped me from falling all the way down.

Josh Strife Hayes is pretty chill for the most part, he's a decent guy but he's one of these people that thinks "being impolite and radical is not the best way to get people on your side", completely ignoring that people have no obligation to be polite when their rights are being taken away. It's not good, but there's way WAY worse people on the platform. He's big on the MMO crowd so obviously get's a lot of the Asmongold audience and he knows he can't go too empathetic cause they're complete nutjobs when it comes to being a lefty Also "The XYZ situation is insane" reference was him being satirical about slop youtubers

First time watcher. Big props to you for admitting your mistake immediately after the JP relative poverty rant. Something to bear in mind with his old lectures is he used to be a lot more left leaning, even if never an actual left winger. Which is the very sad thing I think about JP, he seems to me to be a victim of the alt-right pipeline as well as a perpetuator.

Being wrong with such confidence that most passive bystanders agree with you because you felt more correct is a fairly integral part of the myth making of American exceptionalism and an essential part of Trumpism too. The political right embody this more fully than the rest of Americans but it is not limited to only the right(or the US even)unfortunately. A perfect example of this is the clip from the Harris debate where Trump makes the moronic claim about Haitians eating pets. Watch his expression and the way he plays to the crowd and the camera. Notice how his blithe confidence in his own ignorant claim and how used to his bs we all are just carries him, through the argument and the fact checking. Biden Obama Bush Clinton all of them are equally masterful at this ruse. Reagan was probably the best at it, factless assertions based on nothing said with such confidence it became true after, for many people, at least for a little while. Shits wild ..

Destiny immediately going to the numbers of what could happen if he and Hasan did content tells you exactly the thing he cares about and another reason he and Hasan are fundamentally different people. Like yeah you're allowed to want personal gain from content but for him to want to talk about that, that quickly felt gross.

Bro I watched this video, and left a comment where I says «Hasan helped me get out», then I saw the part about destiny, so I changed the comment to «left wing streamers helped me»😂 cuz I just didn’t want the smoke. Good to see he doesn’t have a negative view of hasan. Mabye I’ll change the comment back 😂

As someone who was deep in academia in my youth, I had read some soviet authors and some Marx, and all of my group of friends hung out in a pub called Soviet that was all communist-themed. But I was never a leftist until Hasan. I was a left-leaning anarchist, on account of all my background and having listened to hardcore punk, AND because I was a deeply cynical person. I first caught Has in xQc highlights (I didn't watch X specifically, he had just joined my favorite pro OW team) and he was roleplaying a cop in GTA so I was like "fuck this guy saying he's a leftist and acting like a cop". What drew me in, after that, was funnily enough, Linus's video of getting him a PC and how earnestly he took all those communist jabs, which made me watch him in context and realize he's genuine. Drama-farming definitely worked lmao.

1:35:25 I think one of the few valid conclusions that destiny has come to is that he is a radical Egoist. He has said that everything he does is not for the benefit of anyone but himself, and that he is not a good person, he just does good things so other people treat him nicely so that he has a better outcome.

I feel a little bit of shame every time I remember a handful of years ago I discovered Destiny through TikTok clips on my FYP, was fooled by some of his takes and really started to get into some of the shit he was saying but the deeper I looked the more pungent the right wing stank got- so I dropped off he promptly exited my algorithm. Happy to have found Hasan this year and get the confirmation that my radar was correct and I now have a far better source for commentary in these spheres ✨

The Josh Strife Hayes clip is sad, honestly. As an enjoyer of video games I felt like he was a level headed, smart guy, and now he's trying to both sides the Goonergate stuff when it's clear to anyone with two braincells to rub together that minorities, think tanks and people with leftist politics are being scapegoated for enshittification. It's why the outrage falls apart when the neckiest of the neckbeards come after Elden Ring and Baldurs Gate 3 for being 'woke' when they're objectively 2 incredibly well made games with huge playerbases.

I know it's impossible, but I love the idea of Hasan, Vaush and Destiny doing "antagonistic" content together, if they could just keep their fan bases in check and keep it civil. (On second thought, maybe just Vaush and Hasan. )

How can you be anti-establishment and neoliberalist? Like neo-liberalism is the establishment lol
@connorgrynol9021Күн бұрын
They pretend that it isn’t. They believe neoliberalism is the best path to a successful economy. But the economy isn’t doing great so they need an excuse. Their excuse? What we have isn’t neoliberalism. It’s corporatism or communism or whatever. It’s the only way they can excuse their failing economic model.

This is an excellent video. I know a lot of people like this and I almost was one myself. I just didn’t have the misfortune of meeting a “proper right winger” like he did. A lot of Americans have no true historical literacy or context for the founding of their country. All they know is there was a revolution to overthrow a king and because kings are bad for obvious reasons, you don’t need any more education to support the idea of the American Revolution, so alot of us have a soft spot for ANYONE fighting the state. Failure to recognize this can lead you into being simply contrarian and that is precisely how you get back doored into that whole “conservatism is the new punk rock” bullshit. It’s the exact same reason why shitheads like Sid Vicious wore swastikas in the first place. They’re just dumb punks who don’t actually know shit outside of “this country sucks and my parents suck and it’s more or less their faults the country sucks and they hate Nazis so I’m a gonna be a ironic Nazi just to piss my freakin mom off!”

Really happy for Jimmy. For anyone wanting more British politics coverage especially from an economic material leftist analysis perspective, there’s a streamer called NoJusticeMTG (the MTG stands for Magic cards that she plays in her spare time not for Majorie TG) who I highly recommend to any Brits here wanting a Hasan but for the UK youtube.com/@nojusticemtg?si=D6v1Jx4u6BUK7bhE

I know someone in Britain who went through a similar process to Jimmy's, but he reached an unfortunate conclusion. He started as a contrarian from an economically difficult background. A lot of the youth in Britain from inner cities (Council estates) are kinda of abandoned in the public education system here. Unfortunately it's education and the influences people find along the way that make a difference. We went to listen to Owen Jones TOGETHER. In my process, I became a leftie or MAX left according to Cenk but my friend turned to Jordan Peterson next. I lost my friend I'm afraid

I think it shows that the lefts tactics are improving but we need to go further. The right wing have been very successful at radicalising young people in the UK. I genuinely believe Russia have had a major part in this as the whole of Europe is becoming more nationalist. Pro Russia candidates have had an army of bots fighting battles we just cannot compete with.
