Suggestion about diet adjustments. Use honey for hot cereals, pasta that has some different seasonings as dish, or salt free or low sodium tomato sauce. Bagels w/light cream cheese.

Marissa, can someone from your family stay with Dennis to give you some time to go for a sleep or a walk or something to help you restore your own strength. This is a difficult time for you. I'm sorry you are going through this. Keep your own nutrition on track too. Marissa, have you had your own blood pressure checked? Here is a quick choice for Dennis if he eats this kind of thing. Make Dennis 2 slices of wholemeal toast, no butter, spread with one quarter of avocado on each slice. Top this with one egg each slice. This is a nice change. Can you buy zucchinis and slice them into "zoodles" lengthwise to form the basis of a spaghetti bolognaise? Canned tomatoes, garlic, basil or Italian herb mix, and some minced beef to make the sauce and then sprinkle over some parmesan. Mashed potatoes can be replaced with mashed cauliflower with some garlic for flavour. Can you get cauliflower?

I know that feeling.My husband was sick back in 2020.they found out he had cancer and i took care of him while he was really sick,hes in remission now,butbwhile hes in remission he hhad half of gallbladder out and they nip his liver and had liver surgery in 2023.Hes only 61 and al ost 62 in march 12th2025.

Check the sodium and phosphate levels in roasted chicken cause normally they are high, especially if skin on chicken. Both sodium and phosphate is bad for heart function.

Hi Marissa, Dennis and Mariben. I could see how hard it is for Dennis to stay on track. I thought a baked potato or roasted potato would be okay, think air fryer. I would add a dab of butter rather than have gravy. So many calories, sugar, salt and artificial ingredients such as flavour enhancers in gravy. That why it 😅😅tastes so good I guess. Stay as natural as you can. I had to change my diet due to gut issues and I found that I gradually got used to eating differently. It’s not for the faint of heart eh? About doing weights,my sister is a Physiotherapist and she recommended that while doing weights to move slowly rather than lifting them rapidly. The muscles work harder. As for King Ming, he does sort of sound as if he has dental issue. My cat had similar issues as she aged and was able to handle the soft food better. Here in Canada, mackerel is more expensive than tuna, for humans anyway.. It is a lovely white fish that doesn’t taste fishy. My Scottish cousins love it and they know their fish. Haha! Anyways, Dennis, you’re doing extremely well in my humble opinion. Marissa, take a break. I haven’t seen you care for your plants lately. I always enjoyed that part of your life and it made me more confident about looking after mine. They are so life giving. Mariben, what would we do without you? Maybe carbs, no more than 25% for one meal a day is ok with protein which you should have. For me, moving after a meal helps my sugar go down, so perhaps if you spend 30 min on bike after. Ask the doctor, this way Dennis will not feel so deprived and this becomes a way of life instead of a strict diet that is not sustainable. Use real potatoes and make a small amount of home made gravy instead of instant packaged stuff. I have a blood sugar tester so I can check how my body reacts to what I eat, are those easy to get there? Do they have frozen pizza with califlower crust in the American food store there?

Find a good dietician so Dennis can tell them what foods he likes and they can help come up with food portions that he likes but are still healthy. Take care.

Dennis needs protein for maintenance and repair of all the important muscles in his body. This how he will keep his strength. His heart is a muscle, his lungs work through muscles contracting. He needs to keep his back and legs strong to support him as he moves. There are many reasons why this is very important for his recovery. He cannot sit down to a main meal of just vegetables. He should, ideally be eating some lean beef, or some chicken, and at least 5 different vegetables including leafy greens. The little meatloaf lettuce wraps were a genius idea because they were flavoursome and he loved them. They could also have been used to make chicken wraps. He needs a new repertoire of recipes that will work for him and keep him not feeling deprived. Men have a greater need of calories each day than women do. Please consider Dennis when you are preparing your meals. He needs something he can snack on that won't interfere with his diet from the doctor. Herbs and spices that he likes should be added to make variety in his life. This is why he is bored and feeling like he can't do it. I would feel the same. I have currently lost 17 kg on the CSIRO Diabetes Diet and Lifestyle plan. They are not expensive on eBay to buy. That is where I got mine.

Please listen to Dennis, if you get who will help Dennis and you Start loving yourself more Marissa. Start talking positive about life. Stop looking back ,God is healing Dennis in his timing. I have a serious ill husband, who had kidney cancer and now battling with chronic Renal Failure. I am positive every when God wake my husband and I up.we are so blessed, blessed, blessed. 😅😂😅😂I can relate to Ming ming situation. My hubby and my grandkids started feeding a wild cat, and next thing you know, she had 4 kittens, so now we have to feed 5 critters , 😅😂😅 it seems to me that we spend more money on cat food than my bag of rice for a month!!

I'm here in dumaguete philippines . I have found cantaloupe is not sweet here . And I can add a low sugar sweetner to it and it doesnt raise my blood sugar .so avacado and cantaloupe . I'm in the same situation im type 2 diabetic. Good luck !

It takes time but believe me you’ll get there. My daughter told me I had to lose 60 pounds and said to myself how can I do this with my wife and children eat so much sweet is all around me. It was difficult but I did it. I didn’t lose 60 pounds I lost 80 pounds Went to the gym Lord Jesus on the best of ever been the doctor said what did I do? I said listen to you all. Wow hope all patient could be like you have faith. You’ll get there. Your wife supposed to rest just a little every day I do get stressful on her I understand, God bless you and the family and wish you the best recovery Lord Jesus everything is possible good night
