Thank you for these videos. I'm currently on a decluttering journey as my husband and I retire this year and are currently moving from a townhouse to an apartment. We have decided to downsize our belonging because we have things that we just don't use and don't need.

Beautiful discussion bro. Happy Birthday! I have 10 years on you and your points are valid. Older millennials like myself followed a blueprint, passed down from our elders. The crazy thing is, the blueprint works. If you're lucky, you graduated from college, got a job, a 401k, etc etc. But most if not all of us don't take the time to check in and see if that blueprint was really something that resonated with us, resulting in a confusing emptiness that's often too difficult to put in words. I'm truly happy that you're attacking this earlier on and inspiring others to do so as well. Its never too early or too late to do so. Cheers.

I feel like you've been "killing it" lately with all these deep, thoughtful, and insightful videos lately, Ron! I met up with my therapist today, and I haven't scheduled a meeting with him in a while. We found a lot of things to talk about. The things that we get so hung up on - and I can definitely relate to feeling as if certain things in life aren't going as fast as they should, or that things are moving too slow - can really hold us back so much. I can easily recognize that letting go is feasibly the most important thing to do with almost any situation that has a draining effect on our well-being, but to actually act on it is sometimes difficult. Being human is difficult, and we are simply not designed to be able to handle every challenge alone. PS: I turned 30 last year in August, and without a doubt, I feel as if there's some sort of parallel between our lives now because coming out of your 20's is a huge deal. You were already an adult when you were in your 20's, but what I'm realizing with being 30 now is that you're essentially expanding on the experiences and interests you faced in that previous period of your life. Take your time, though. Life really does get easier once you've exited your 20s. Hopefully, this comment is still readable despite it being so long 😅

Thank you for this comment Amy! First I love that you’re truly enjoying my content. I’m really enjoying these more thoughtful conversations so I’m happy to hear that it’s connecting with you and others. Secondly, I hope your meeting with your therapist was a good one! Also, I appreciate your thought and words in regards to turning 30 and exiting my 20’s. I’ve been doing a TON of reflecting especially this week as I count down the days until Friday (the 20th) but I’m excited!! I know this next chapter will bring on so many amazing things. “Taking my time” will be key as you’ve said. Plus knowing that you see parallels between our lives is amazing. Makes me feel better as I now know someone who’s get want I’m feeling and I’m sure it makes me that much more relatable to you as well. Keep growing on your journey Amy! I appreciate you being here in this community!

The myriad ways we automatically adjust ourselves, to the shapes of our subconscious (and supposed) expectations of our audience, family, friends, professional peers, etc - this is a sea that is deep. I believe we must become skilled divers, to have any hope of finding, and continuing to uncover, our unapologetically real Self. Best to you on this threshold and chapter. Thank you for sharing your pursuits, and inspiring others of us out here, to remember every day, what is of true value in this life.

Happy Birthday! I’m 39, going on 40 on April 8th. I’m an introvert and while I’m not a full-on minimalist, I did a big decluttering this month and will be reorganizing everything this Spring, if not later this Winter, so that it looks like I’m a one. A “reclutter” as they call it here on KZbin. This is something I should have tackled long ago, and while I regret not doing it sooner, I’m so happy to be doing it now. A breath of fresh air for me and my home. Thank you so much for the tips and the reminders. These things I know, but tend to forget at times (as we all tend to do as human beings). Especially when I’ve been deeply depressed over my boyfriend breaking up with me just a few months ago. But at the same time, I’m realizing just how toxic my relationship with my ex was, both in terms of my Christian faith and me as a person. And I’m striving and fighting to be my better and stronger self, to be the true me again as God made me to be. Same thing goes for my apartment, out with the old and in with the new. Which you can bet He gave me the strength to do, too. And praise God Almighty and Jesus Christ, I’m getting there. Not just growing stronger physically and mentally, but also spiritually in my walk and relationship with Him. I am feeling better and my apartment is, too! Sooner or later, all will be renewed, praise God. Good times and bad, I trust and love Him, as we all should. He loves us and knows what is best for us and when He closes one door, He always opens another. And it sounds like He is about to open another door in your journey as well, if He hasn’t already. God bless you and your family. God bless you all

Thanks for the video. I want to share this with my brother. He is obsessed with owning expensive things and very materialistic and I hope this will just inspire him to take one step towards thinking about a more meaningful life. I hate to hear him constantly chasing something else for happiness. Thanks for the video! And from one Jan baby to another happy January birthday! Thanks for what you do!

Hey! I hope your brother finds value in this conversation. If you or him ever have questions don’t hesitate to reach out and ask. I use to be in a similar position where I felt the need to buy things that I felt represented me or this persona I embraced for years. I soon realized that although I had a lot of stuff (shoes, clothes, etc.) I was missing meaning. So I set sail on this journey and haven’t looked back. Also! Shout out to you because you’re a January baby!! 🙌🏾

Oh Ronald, you do meaningful work because, and I speak as someone in their early fifties, you are such a wonderful educator. You inform, never preach and always leave your viewers to to evaluate what you have said on their own terms whilst dropping in pointers and questions for us to contemplate. Meaningful work is different for all of us, but how it pertains to our lives is often very similar in that we seek to be satisfied with our output whilst offering something of ourselves , gaining recognition for our efforts and learning something in the process. The question of ‘what we do in the meantime’ is a very interesting one because most people tend to focus on goals and aspiration to bring meaning but often don’t focus on the present and where things stand from the viewpoint they are currently looking from. I love the saying: “Mean to be you in everything you do, because the moment will pass but the meaning will last”. I think this saying focuses our minds to seek meaning and realise its importance and influence in shaping us as we live through it. Also, I agree if we have to apologise for who we are then we are not valuing our own existence as significant enough to matter or our ability to make a difference. Everyday, we alter or change each others lives in more ways than we realise just through our interactions. However, by doing so as kindly and thoughtfully as we are able at any given moment is in itself meaningful work.
