How I Find the Problem and Fix a Konica Minolta C1070 Digital Printing Press, Didn't Expect This

Hi Dan, I knew the moment that I saw your chart that this would be the issue. This is actually the way to go if you want to solve the uneven density problem in the scan direction on the C6500, since there is no adjustment for uneven density in the scan direction. It only took a few pieces of plain paper placed on one of those black tabs that are on each side of the drum. Those few millimeters may seem insignificant but affect image density by a large factor. It is even more prevalent on halftones, it wasn't printing yellow at all at one of the edges.

Always good to make a test print before and after you replace something. That way if its something that you may of accidentally done, its easier to diagnose. Also regarding generic vs OEM parts, yes they may be cheaper, but can cause other print quality issues, like more toner usage etc.

Furthermore, using a generic product in the machine can defeat the purpose that is needed, by damaging its working parts. An ounce of prevention equals a pound of cure.

Glad you got it fixed by the spacers. Just a tip, another area to check if it was not the drum is to check and clean the Toner Shield Glass. There might be dust or a haze. Another area would be at the laser units shield glass, you can always swapped CMY lasers for testing (time consuming). One last thing if the drum was bad I would have used it in Yellow since yellow can hide some imperfections of a drum better than others.

Watching this show makes me appreciate using a color laser printer and printing on to laser paper. The problems with that cyan toner encourage me to adhere to using only the printer manufacturer's brand toner. The same thing goes for using my label printer. Better is to use the original and not an imitation; the imitation can never be duplicated.

When that supply ends, I will add Hammermill color laser printer as my only brand paper, while it is stored in my closet. I bought two ten packs cases. Not a tech but recall being told a number of times that ' best practice' is to do developer unit and developer at the same time. I remember something about old developer contaminating and then you end up paying for 2 sets of developer as well as the unit. FWIW

Sorry, I don't know. Sounds like a bad power supply. Or maybe a bad switch. Test both switches.

@@justaprinter We had it 5 years, only 1.4 million clics on it. Had a lot of Communication Failures with the Fiery Servers. We are now on our 3rd Fiery Server and this one works, the previous 2 Fierys both failed to communicate with our C1085. C1085 is good, runs well, but Firies don't like it.

Hey buddy if nobody has told you yet what we do in the field on production machines when we’re in a pinch especially , we pick on the yellow channel we put the bad parts in the yellow channel because yellow hardly ever exhibit any issues in the print reproduction unless you’re using heavy yellow on something

How long have you been running the Generics in the K/M machines. I've found that it's hit and miss with Generics. Some work great, others wear early, and give voltage issues, along with copy quality problems. One extra service call on average for a Generic, and the cost savings is wiped out. Not trashing them, I've used them on and off for over 30 years with considerable success, and some really bad failures when it comes to the DPS not wanting to stay locked in on certain high volume applications. I tried it only once. It was garbage. I only run OEM now. The problem is that replacing the drum only replaces on of the three wear items in the drum unit.

Good day, i have also problem with developer unit, but yellow Km 6000. I clean printer, corona and developer unit, and start printing 50 sheets SRA3, 10 sheets is good but then yellow color lay with big spot, open the printer and see many yellow toner in corona, in drum unit and developer unit, developer unit and drum unit is original used 10-12%, developer unit have gap 0,8 mm between magnetic rollers metering blades. Did you have the same problem? Thank you)

Hi Dan. Am running the C3070. I am a bit lost on what could be my issue. My corona wires are barely hitting 30% before they begin to either show lines or fading. I print quite a bit of solid on card stock, but i feel I should get more percentage on them. Also, whenever I clean using the provided tool, I always seem to spread the dirt rather than clean it out such that if I was cleaning because of a faint line, i end up getting another 4 or 5 spread along the wire... Any thoughts on this? Are there other ways of cleaning other than the tool provided? What is the significance of the mesh grid and does it also affect the performance of the wire itself? Many thanks

The wire and the grid both need to be clean. You could be wearing out oyour wires prematurely if other components are worn. (developer, drum, dev. unit) I'd replace anything that is over 250% and clean it all. Make sure calibrations are all done correctly.

I miss this job i suggest when you check the cmyk quality you print a whole size of the paper by 100% each color in that way you will recognise easily if that problem is the drum, charge roller, or the developer and need keep reference the good printout cmyk so that you can compare the deference and know the problem easily

I just replaced 3 of the 4 developer units and developer on all 4 units on my C1060. The 3 units I replaced are printing fine. But my BK developer is printing a bit off. That was me using new Developer in an old developer unit. I was also told about using new units when I swap developer. I will do this for now on. I don't like wasting developer. It's too expensive. Lol..

Hey Dan, I have a 3070 which gets very light use. I only print greeting cards and I have less that 300,000 clicks on the machine after 3 years! I am having a on going problem with the developer unit. Quite often when printing a job with heavy toner coverage, I get the striping problem which points to the developer needing topping up. This can happen only a few days after having the developer changed for the same issue which does not makes sense to me. Magenta is the main offender but I have seen similar issues on other colours. I am told by the engineers that the machine is not distributing the developer quickly enough. I am printing on heavy stock which slows down the developer distribution mechanism in the developer unit. Have you seen or any other user seen similar problems with dev on these machines? Is this a design flaw? Thanks a million - Ger

In the service manual this code relates to a black drum motor fault, but via the i/o Check mode the 4 front motors are working correct l'y on all 3 speeds, so I've dismantled the rear machine and checked the 4 encoders and they looks good. The machine has 1.600,000 prints..

I had errors pointing to the drum motor on my C6500. Turned out to be dust on the encoder. Try to swap the encoder/motor with another color and see if the fault moved to that color. If not, your black developer might be shot and not imaging correctly? You could swap drums too. Highly doubt it is a board. Usually something simple. Let me know what you find!

I suggest that you need to maintain room humidity of the room because the machine has a temperature requirement you need to control the temperature that the machine sense and the effect that you don't contral the temperature of the machine is when you print in volume the fuse is getting hotter and hotter the print color is changing

I tried some generic drums on my Minolta c308, but had bad experiences with them. Only problems with them, so I only use the original ones. They last mich longer than described. No problems whatsoever with the original ones.

I use only laser paper in my laser printer, but you use varieties of paper. That practice makes you definitely professional because you are a real "printer." I am gaining clientele, because lots of people are resorting to do their own documents, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, even information management as in databases. I think that I do a little better database management by using a database program and not a spreadsheet program. After I bought my first computer in 2002, I made my own flyers, brochures and business cards by using Microsoft Publisher 2002, even though when it came on a separate disc with the Microsoft Office XP Professional suite.

Offset is expensive for me mostly because of labor. I used to have offset but from my calculations I was not as profitable when compared to digital. It fits for my customers.

To know that your developer has already attain there life span you need to print whole size color like cyan 100% the print output is not equal or solid cyan of whole size paper in that moment i recommend to replace both of the developer unit and the developer if you will only replace the developer it will not last long you will only waste the developer
