26:11 In the mixer preferences, turn on "DCA Groups" under "Mute System" and you'll save yourself and your team the headache of trying to figure out why an unmuted channel isn't passing audio because the DCA was muted.

One thing I’d do for this console setup is enable automix for your 1st four mics (speaking mics). Put em all in the same automix group and set your priorities. Luckily, you put all your mics on channels 1-8 (the only channels available to use automix on the X32). Makes a big difference when you’ve got more than 1 speaking mic on at a time. The automix not only “ducks” the speakers that aren’t speaking at the time.. but it consolidates the output of each automix channel, making the livestream audio more consistent. Without automix, every mic channel you turn on adds approx 3db to the mix.. but with automix, all the automix channels share the same 3db… So if you have a panel of 4 speakers and they all laugh at the same time, the levels don’t skyrocket! I leave automix enabled all the time for my speaking mics, even if they’re not being used.

The X32 is the Toyota Corolla of mixers.

Gross. It's the Honda Accord of mixers. Not a corolla. An analog system is a corolla

@@Dannys.channel I held on to analog as long as I possibly could. But the truth is, if it isn't an analog mixer with pristine pre's and signal chain (i.e. MIDAS, Trident, etc.,) digital is always the way to go.

We use some busses to group channels before they go to the P16s, for example we have a tracks channel or a TB channel. You can also use it to have one channel for different instruments, for example we have a saxophone player that never plays when the electric guitar is playing. So they share a group and you don't need to change any routing for that.

You can turn buses into sub groups on the PC by selecting sends on any channel and selecting "Sub Group" from the list at the top.

Pro Tip on Gates, without purchasing any additional gear: most consoles allow the ability of filtering, or keying, your Gate. This does NOT affect the signal input or output. It tells the gate what frequencies in the signal to look for and/or exclude. Many consoles also have the ability to Listen or Solo the filter--do NOT Listen or Solo live during an event. I use this function on drums, talkbacks and sometimes vocals.

PATCHING 1-to-1: @ 18:48 through 19:09 - I assume you are meaning - Stage Box-1 goes to Mixer-1; SB-1 to Mx-2; etc - If the Mixer is 1 to 16 (or 32) Left-to-Right; then why Place/Number the Stage in the Opposite Direction from the Sound Engineer’s Perspective?

Rather than using a 25 foot USB Cable. I use a USB to CAT6 extender. Way more reliable and you can move the laptop or iPad anywhere you need it for tracks.

than you for the video, one question, if you use bus 13 as a input channel bus, don't you then loose that effect send?

So during a service, are you managing DCAs/channels for your mix & leaving the busses for band & vocals alone?

Hi Jake, it's okay to use a Linked(stereo bus) for Streaming, not using any matrix rght?
@J3hovaRapha
@J3hovaRapha Жыл бұрын
If you're not using anyother mix bus, like Jake was showing, for the livestream mix then YES - all you would need is a stereo mixbus
@johnmcvicker6728
@johnmcvicker6728 Жыл бұрын
You can but if you want more control - using multiple stereo buses combined into a final Matrix allows for more options. And don't forget putting a limiter on the final matrix for best level of broadcast. But you can use the matrix Dynamics (compressors) setup with a 20:1 or 100:1 ratio in order to act much like a limiter. This video by Jake could have gone a lot further than what was shown. But it definitely appears he took this church from where they were to a level above. A few more levels to go from here.

walls are slapping back there - of course sound treatment is probably in the future there. A nice low removeable false wall to cover up the stage box areas would make it nice. With all the open channels, go with two crowd mics to give IEMs a stereo feel for those mixing IEMs as stereo. It also would allow the stream mix to be wider, of course.
@johnmcvicker6728

speaking bus looks too low for a level broadcast - we have to +10 dB for speakers to keep to the same level of the band (ie. the listener does not have to change volume for speakers to hear them at a tolerable/equal level to the band). These videos always forget to educate the viewer about mixing in the Effects returns into their broadcast stereo feed. This is why so many church broadcasts sound and feel "mono" and centered.

To use as a matrix source for broadcast you need speech mics in a bus.

@@jedd1 This is a good example of many small churches who struggled or got by with whatever they could put together. Though the team will need training and reasons "why" things were done the new way. Rudiments of mixing, setup of signal routes, etc. I think many times I see posts on Facebook saying "we're not technical so..." - but I challenge people to actually learn something new and enjoy the process of education - learn to become an autodidact and thrive.
