I think because dark roasts produce more fines when ground and also the extra carbon dioxide from the longer the roast
@ianshepherd64768 ай бұрын
Lighter roasts require finer grind also just fyi. That built in grinder may not go fine enough for lighter roasts bc if you had a 70g yield the only answer is that it’s too course. Hope this helps

Hey! Some indication, but the finest grind still sprayed, so what gives? :)

Yeah dark roast beans don't need to be ground as fine. The other beans should work, but if you're already on ground setting 1, and you're still getting all the channeling, you may need to open the grinder and adjust the burrs. I couldn't find a manual online, so not sure if it's a straight forward thing on this machine. You may not want to spend the cash, but you can always buy a separate grinder.

Yeah the burr is not adjustable unfortunately, I just been sticking to the dark roast beans

@@JaiBrews I gotcha. Only other thing you could do is increase the dose if not already maxed out. Good luck out there 👍

@@CatsAreOkay I tried 19g but it was too much and the portafilter wouldn’t turn so the most I can fit in there at the lowest ground setting with mid dark roast beans is 18.5g.. I even used a paper filter before the grounds and it still kinda sprayed.. I even tried 16g with a puck screen and it still sprayed so idk 🤷🏻♀️ 😂

Help my pulls are also 72 grams I didn’t know that was bad. Im doing 15g in a 51 mm. I have the same exact spraying problems but my beans are good. My cousin used them on on her brevile and has no problems but I get spraying with all the correct puck prep work and get the results u were getting. So we’re supposed to get double of the grams ? How on earth would I reduce the liquid to only 30 g…

What machine do you have? Are you using a built in grinder? Does your machine have adjustable bars of pressure? My machine isn’t adjustable but I used the built in grinder to its finest setting. I went with a darker fresh bean and it was better, no spray.. Yeah so 15g of coffee would be 30g out in 25 seconds that’s for a Nomale which is 1:2 and Lungo would be 45 seconds which is a 1:3 pull.. it took me a while to dial in my machine and every bean is different

If there is too much coffee coming out and it’s spraying, that means the grind is not fine enough or it’s not being tamped enough, there is channeling going on somewhere in there.. also is your machine the same as your cousins?

@@JaiBrews I have the Casabrew CM5418. 20 bars. Pressure is not adjustable I don’t think. I just found out this machine produces more water and you have to stop it when it hits the ratio you want. Do all machines do this? Is this what is means to dial your machine?
@Travelingwithme77889 ай бұрын
@@JaiBrews I’m using the breville smart grinder and always have sprays even on the finest setting! I didn’t know ratio was a thing so maybe that’s why I’m having sprays and I’m using light roast beans that are fresh
@JaiBrews9 ай бұрын
Yeah every coffee machine is different when it come to preset brew time. I have to stop mine!! I would def time it and go with a darker roast maybe.. I know the darker the roast it doesn’t have to be that thin of a grind so you might have better luck!! Also you might need more or less than 15g it just depends. Always make sure your tamper is level with the portafilter When you tamp. might be getting over spray bc there is not enough coffee in the basket

DId you check the roast date? the latter one looks old and stale
@JaiBrews10 ай бұрын
The med dark roast was around 2 weeks old from roast date, and the dark roast was maybe like 4 days from roast date

Different beans do not cause spraying, poor puck prep does, sorry!
@JaiBrews8 ай бұрын
This is a Walmart 15 bar Ultima Cosa Machine, you can not adjust the pressure nor can you adjust the temp.. I am using the built in grinder which I’m sure is not the best, I’m sure with a better grinder I wouldn’t have this issue. Even with the finest grind setting with the medium beans and even tamping harder than 30lb even at the hardest tamp was still spraying bc its too much pressure which was causing the shot to be watery.. so yes on this machine and most cheap espresso machines a darker roast bean is better. Darker beans can grind finer. And my puck prep is always the same. WDT, paper filter on bottom, puck screen on top and 30lb tamp!! Some machines are just not meant for bottomless and this is probably one of them.

@@JaiBrews Try wet paper at bottom of puck, or the puck won't be tight fitting.
