Hi from Bend, Oregon! I'm 69 and retired 3 years ago and let my wardrobe go beyond casual, not sloppy, but too casual. My husband never said anything about how I dressed until one day I felt like dressing up a little and added some jewelry. My husband made a point of telling me how nice I looked and I really appreciated that. So, over the past couple of months I have been redoing my wardrobe with "Casual Elegance" and only neutral colors and yes I "Ditched the Prints" with no regrets. I really love this way of dressing and it boosts my moral. I feel so much better when I get dressed now. Thanks Valarie for how you present all your ideas, with common sense. My wardrobe is still a work in progress, but I am having fun.

When I retired, I transitioned from a corporate NYC wardrobe to living in south Florida, and it took me 8 years to finally give up most of my clothes. I became inspired, however, when I was in Publix (every Floridian knows!) one morning. It was scorching hot and an older woman emerged wearing white linen pants, a black tee and minimal jewelry. I don't remember shoes, bag, etc. but I stopped her to tell her how nice she looked. She said "this is my uniform, I wear a variation of this almost every day." My wardrobe is casual, but I make an effort to look put together and only wear shorts around the house or on my daily walk.

I haven’t retired yet but went from a 5 day a week office job to 100% work from home. I have been home four years and am still trying to figure it out. I was a suit and dress office style and I love that style however, I”m not going to sit in my house alone with the cats in a suit. I’d say I”m about 90% there I got rid of a lot of stuff that was just ok that I knew I’d never wear. I will still wear a suit jacket for zoom meetings but not the pants I love the dress pant yoga pant for work from home. It’s definitely a process and nice to know I’m not the only one who struggled with it.

Hi there from Omaha Nebraska . I am 62 and working full time. When I was 60 I did a no buy year because I had so many clothes that it was overwhelming. This was the best thing I ever did because I was forced to wear what I had and if I didn’t want to wear it, I got rid of it. The next year I was able to clearly see the pieces I was missing. Now I have only the clothes I love. So I feel great about my wardrobe. I love your clothing choices and the way you put outfits together. I appreciate new ideas.😊

I am 73. I love my style. This fall I am wearing soft cashmere or cotton sweaters and jeans, denim and cords . I have lost 30lbs and I am in the gym 3-5 hours a week plus enjoying Zumba and cardio dance. I am happy with my wardrobe and appearance. People think I am much younger, but I think it is because I am a positive person, smile a lot and have good posture.

Hello my Michigan friend! I feel great about my appearance because I have maintained my weight and I don't have clothes that don't fit. I love my classic style but I keep it modern and current. Love my blazers with jeans! I did some purging today of handbags I no longer use and shoes that I can't wear. That was emotional because I can't wear heels any longer and some of them were almost new. I feel it's so important that your shoes are right for the outfit. Letting go and accepting the changes that occur with aging is emotional. I decided that what wasn't serving me well didn't belong in my closet. My challenge now is finding attractive shoes that are comfortable.

I agree that over the years, my clothes reflected that specific period in my life (taking care of kids, work, etc). I retired from wearing scrubs five years ago and found myself reaching for the classic neutral pieces that I've owned for many years. Those pieces don't age me. They make me feel classy, chic, and comfortable. These pieces are also my travel capsule wardrobe. The only new pieces I purchase are the lovely scarves from my travels. Thank you for your lovely informative videos. Love your channel!

I lost 60 lbs - I found you at the right time. I’ve given away so many clothes from my closet and have rebuilt it. I still feel I have to much but I feel good about where I am right now and will continue to modify. I love my new classic look. I applied this new perspective on a recent 10 day trip. I had a carry on and personal item with my capsule wardrobe and I still had at least 5 pieces I did not wear. I’m a work in progress. I have ditched the prints and gone neutral and it’s paying off.

Very very interesting! I have a similar professional background to you, aged 59 and formerly worked in the City of London here in the UK. Now working from home. I loved my business suits (tailoring is my favourite clothing), and had a tough time realising I didn't need it so much. I've worn tailored classic clothes since I was around 14-15 years old so it was a strong part of my identity. I am pretty happy with how I look at this age, mainly focused on staying fit, and very good haircuts. I completely agree about prints, they are rare in my wardrobe and only have one monochrome geometric print blouse. Although I wear mostly warm neutrals, very similar to you, I've found that the occasional colour highlight with mostly texture and silhouette and very good quality fabrics hand-tailored for me just works. I've replaced most of my blazers with chic bomber jackets, don't wear jeans much it's mostly tailored trousers, good leather loafers and low-mid heels. I've spent a lot more on accessories such as silk scarves and good belts. Nice cashmere. I keep a bit of a rock vibe in there too. I'm still evolving, and am a new subscriber. Thank you.

My lifestyle is very casual but active these days. You points, although a little painful 😩are spot on! My waredrobe is still a mish mosh of a little bit of everything. I have little need for dressy clothes at this stage but I miss them😢. I often feel like I need 3-4 different wardrobes. At home, activities ( there are at least 3 right there) and casual out and about ( dinners, lunches, entertaining etc.) almost like I need several mini capsules. But then I get board with them. But I do know solids go much further than prints in the scheme of things. Sometimes it’s frustrating. And I’m a true petite at 5’ 1 1/2”.

really agree on the prints. Nada Manley’s channel breaks this down in detail in some of her videos. she describes high quality prints and how to spot them. she explains what prints look cheap and dated and can age us and why. best to stay away from them. and even stripes work differently on different people. my features are low contrast so i’d only wear low contrast stripes - higher contrast stripes distract from my soft features and don’t add anything.

Very helpful video! I just turned 70, also a retired professional who had enjoyed wearing suits, and I’ve gained some weight. I cleared out the clothes that no longer fit, donated a lot of professional looking suits, and bought some classic pieces as the foundation for my new wardrobe. I’ve learned to accept my size, and that I can still dress smartly and feel good about how I look! I wear clothes that make me feel comfortable and still look modern and stylish, and I complement my good quality basics with wonderful jackets, colourful scarves, classic jewelry and great hats and coats. I love to add a pop of colour to my outfits - it makes me smile, and apparently it makes others smile too! Lately I’ve been loving my wide leg jeans and pants! We are never too old to make a good impression.

Great video. I am in the process of cleaning out my closets.....I am a retired health professional that dressed in business clothes. I am a classic dresser and I love blazers....I will be donating my clothes and it feels good to clean out those stuffed closets. In the winter I dress in sweaters (to stay warm) and pants. In the summer I garden and wear jeans and t shirts.... and when I am not gardening I love to wear linen midi dresses.I love to dress up and wish there were more activities to do that. I love to dress and it feels good. I have read the comments below and I am sad that so many women seem so lost....our age group is not the focus of the fashion industry. I love accessories and look for unique pieces. I just purchased a beautiful sequin top to go out in, a silk blouse-feminine, a knit dress( my husband loves it) and fab boots.....they are my reward for being a good girl!!!

Very interesting and on point, Valerie. Personally I feel quite pleased with both my wardrobe and appearance in this chapter of my life. Do I wish each were as they were 10, 15 years ago, of course but I’m so happy to have the privilege to be at midlife that I’ll continue doing my best. Years ago someone gave me what I still think the best compliment. She said that whenever she saw me I was smiling. I keep that with me til this day and try to put a smile on before I consider my wardrobe or my appearance. I think we get fewer compliments in midlife than when we were much younger. I try to take the time to tell woman, and men, my age or older when I notice something about them that is flattering. Thank you for provoking good thoughts.

You have picked up on something I think is important: there appears to be some degree of disconnect between what we wear because others tell us look good on us (or we think others believe looks good on us)…as opposed to what we feel good wearing. I want to explore the difference there a little more.

Yes, it’s a real thing! Our true thoughts create feelings and our subconscious mind responds and takes actions based upon those feelings/emotions. If we don’t feel our best, then we are out of alignment somewhere and we want to hide and avoid people and things. This was me! I’ve been practicing this for awhile and have discovered that “Feeling is the Secret”. It’s like an internal GPS that we can guide with our thoughts & beliefs! It lets me question what’s going on inside, what I’m currently believing and then I can easily realign with better thoughts and updated beliefs. Enjoy exploring this idea!

I am 50 now. It hit hard. Some of the dynamics of my life leave me floundering a bit when it comes to style. I will share a few of those dynamics. I lived at home until I married at 30. Because of that I felt like a teen until 30 in many ways. We were never able to have children so I never fit in with the Mom crowd. My husband teaches the college and career (18-30) Sunday School class in our traditional Baptist church. That means I am surrounded by young people every week and the class comes over for dinner every other Sunday night. Then to add to my confusion, I landed in the hospital for month in ‘21 with Covid Pneumonia and it has left me with my lungs only functioning at 60%…a great improvement from the 30% I struggled with for a year. So that has me feeling even older, especially when surrounded by the young, energetic friends we are with often. Oh, and then I need to lose about 30 pounds. So I am not 30 any longer, but I’m with young people the most, however I’m overweight and can’t do the physically active things I used to…but I’m not a grandmother…and I haven’t had to work for 20 years so I don’t have a job to dress for. Where does that leave me? Confused. 😂 I go shopping and try on clothes. I’m 5’2 and 30 pounds overweight. I walk out empty handed. Every time. I order things online, only to return them because they are too big, too small, or just unflattering. I would rather wear 5 outfits that I feel good in than a whole closet full of unflattering clothes. I sound quite mournful here, but I truly am a happy, grateful person for the wonderful life I have! I just need to be taller, thinner, healthier! 😂 Solids are my best friend! Somehow prints often make me look even more overweight, it seems. My favorite colors to wear are mostly dark. Black, green, navy, white, cream and denim. And a great leopard print ballet flat goes with pretty much everything. Watching your channel is inspiring. I appreciate all of the thought and effort you put into your videos. After waning on here, I forgot what the 2 things you wanted to know! 😂 Surely I covered it in my life story in this comment. 😉

Enjoyed this chat! Well, I was quite lost going from a wardrobe that consisted of suits, cocktail/party outfits, great casual wear to just lounging/casual wear upon retirement. Since I moved to a beach town in Puerto Rico (hubby's idea) my clothing here is light and casual but I keep a capsule wardrobe for when I go back to NY (basically fall/winter favorite seasons). In addition, I keep a capsule wardrobe at my daughter's home in Barcelona. That way, I travel light. Basically, I live in neutral colors, no prints, casual wear. I do invest in accessories and that's wear I give a boost of color to my outfit when I go out. 😊

This in itself brings wardrobe challenges. I love clothes and love to feel put together but most of my time is spent chasing after him or crawling on the floor. I have never been into wearing gym clothes all day as so many people do in Florida. I see lots of things that I would love to buy and wear but I have to be practical and wear things that suit my lifestyle. Also the weather dictates what I wear , being so hot most of the time. I really struggle with semi smart hot weather clothes. You give great advice and it really is very helpful.

I can so relate to your leaving that group. The same thing just happened to me, and yes, it was very emotional. I sew garment, and had been in this wonderful ladies garment group that meant for lunch once a week for 16 years. We had even taken trips together. However, just as you described the gossip and back biting became very prevalent, particularly towards some of the members. One lady was ready to leave because of what she felt the "mean girl syndrome" was aimed at her. And it was! This lady and I were genuinely great friends. I addressed the issue head on in the group, and three of the oldest members who were causing the challenge, split off, never to return. The rest of us regrouped, added another two members, and now we have fun lunches with no pressure or stress. While ending a very long relationship is sad, I feel very freed up to just be myself with scrutiny or criticism. As far as my feelings for my wardrobe, I do sew and create a lot of my own garments. That causes a whole new emotional attachment to that very personal piece of clothing. I am 78, and have consciously gone through a well thought out transformation in the last few years. We are discussing body type, color choices, and style loves. I am getting there. I do love some prints, but not as much as I used to. I am opposite of you, in that I am a true winter that needs contrast, and I can wear some prints if they are done right. And how do I feel about how I dress now?? I have the three words --- CLASSIC, CURRENT, AND FUN!! I feel confident in what I wear, and it is a fashion puzzle I enjoy. I love your videos. I will be following along.

It must be comfortable and I live in Texas where it is hot much of the year. I also lost alot of weight 2 years ago and have had to get rid of everything in my closet. Hello. I'm from Oklahoma City, OK. I have been gradually creating a new style for myself. I am a retired attorney. I kept some of the blazers and I may wear them with jeans to create an elevated casual look. I am about 85 to 90% satisfied with my style. I have implemented all of your tips, except I have just a few print pieces that I will remove. Today, I purchased some nice flats to incorporate in my wardrobe. Revamping is fun!

I’m a 55 year old Texas gal. I’ve been slowly following your steps this past year and while it’s been helpful ( especially now I see why I buy prints but feel uncomfortable wearing them), I still just don’t like the way I look anymore. I used to be a thinner size 2 at 4’ 11” and 85 pounds to now a solid 10 and sometimes 12 at 140 pounds! I also carry most of my weight in my stomach area. I’ve got the right tools now to create a nice wardrobe, but I’m not going to really look and feel good in any of it until I lose the tummy, so that’s my next goal… getting in better shape!

I also cut down my closet because I was feeling very overwhelmed, I have about 65 items for fall/winter, not including shoes and winter coats. It feels about right to me. I have been wearing vintage vests with the pleated pants and feel great! I am sorry you had those kinds of people around you. I really enjoy humble, grateful people. Cheers!

My midlife style is in transition due to newish health challenges. How do I feel? Sometimes meh or so-so, & sometimes hopeful & encouraged. There are times when I feel sadness about my overall appearance, & find myself wishing & hoping for different circumstances (full healing?). But then, I find ways to lift my mood. I remind myself of hopeful & inspiring things by looking at channels like this, reading the comments, & talking to my daughters, & sister. After this, I can more easily locate pieces that complete outfits & this brings me feelings of happiness. (And surprise, these completer items may actually already be in my closet or may be purchased)!

Hello from South Africa. I've just turned 54, retired and live in a small country town. Most of my time is spent at home, but I still want to look good and feel good without looking over dressed. I feel that my current clothes are just not working. I have a lot of prints and that is my problem, they just don't make me feel as good as I used to feel 8n them. I'm recognizing, thanks to you, the value of plain fabrics. I still love colour though .

Thank you for a great video. I retired 2 years ago. Had lots of business suits and formal clothes. Now I want to wear clothes that feels comfortable and casual, but good looking. I have kept some blazers in different colours - but I never use them anymore. I haven't used them since I stopped working, but have hung them in a separate cupboard. Then I get to go through some day and see if I want to keep any more than the black one. I live in southern Norway and the cold weather lasts for a very long time of the year. So when I'm at home I mainly wear lounge wear. But my wardrobe is still a work in progress. You have so many nice tips in your videos. And I am working with ditching the prints......

I, too, wore suits everyday during my career. When I retired I was still dressing in threes. I love my menswear’s patterns, but have started to change to three-piece more casual styles. It’s the same format, just more relaxed. Blazers became sweaters, pants became pull-on pants with no zipper. Yes, these can be found in comfortable, stylish materials and styles. Blouses have become pullover styles, again like the pants and sweaters. I like to keep these simple t-shirts or thin sweaters since they don’t really show. I do love a structured trapezoid purse but am slowly moving to a zippered tote bag. I have softened my makeup and jewelry. Shoes have become 2 inches or less and closed toe so I do not worry about pedicures as often. I keep my nails short and use a skin toned polish to blend in yet with a finished manicure. I have cut my hair to a short, curly style to enhance my curls.

My uniform for the last several years has been skinny pants and tunics, with prints! Will keep those for around the house or yardwork. Evolving to more of the classic styles including flared leg pants that make for a more balanced look on me and shorter tops. Thank goodness there are more of these styles in the shops at the moment! My newer additions to the wardrobe fits my current lifestyle. I feel like my appearance could be improved by toning up and loosing several pounds.

I'll be 64 in January. Retired to Florida from the legal world up north. I loved to dress up for work. And when I was younger and alot thinner I always received alot of compliments for how I dressed. 60s hasn't been kind and I do not like what I see in the mirror. My mom was a beautiful woman and boy she hated getting old. I see now how she felt. My closets are full. Not alot fits. I live in skorts and tshirts here in this very casual hot part of the state. I swim every day in my pool. Very quiet laid back life now. But I miss seasonal dressing and getting dressed up. I do love to travel and that's my time to wear real clothes! But I'm definitely going to start making changes to my life here. Starting with your checklist in this video. Weight loss is critical too. It definitely affects you mentally when you don't feel good in your own body. I gain my weight in my bust and stomach so I find it very difficult to dress this body shape especially in hot weather year round. Tshirts are not my friend! Positive vibes for a new year 😊

Hi. I feel a little invisible at 72. My hair has been silver for 7 years and I really love not worry about my roots (I was a brunette) but I feel like I need a new style. I default to a ball cap and a ponytail a lot. As a retired teacher, my wardrobe is now more relaxed and I feel pretty when I wear my Boho printed tops. I'm a hippy child of the 60's and now I can dress more like my true self than when I was teaching. I like your style; it seems so effortless. I thrift most of my clothes so I only buy what I love and will wear for my current lifestyle. Btw, I take classes so I need to be put together 3x a week.!😉

I did the 3 Word Fashion Method. Choose a word that best describes these questions. 1. Practical or Realistic Word: Describes your regular clothes. 2. Aspirational Word: Describes your ideal style. 3. Emotional Word: Describes how you want to feel in your style. My 3 answers. Though number 2 and 3 have 2 words they do describe my ideal style. 1. Comfortable 2. Elevated Casual 3. Put Together I recognize your suggestions are valid but I think it depends on what region of the country you live and the kind of person you are that determines what is worn. I’m retired, in my 60s, and live in the Pacific Northwest. I do wear different styles of jeans as well as pattern tops. I’ve also learned to wear graphic t-shirts with pattern flannel shirts and I have gotten more compliments than I’ve ever had before. You can’t just wear any combination. It has to be curated. I love it. My style doesn’t make me fade into the background unnoticed. I also wear solids with a fun pair of shoes or accessories. My style isn’t loud. My style is just the right combination of “elevated casual” and “put together” that embraces my comfort with my hip personality. It works for me.

An other excellent video. I was drawn to your video for the simplicity it shows. Now in my 70's I also transitioned from formal office attire, but was not sure what direction to take. First I tried dressy casual, but it looked to preppy for the environment I now live in. I am not a denim jeans person and have never been. Now I find I'm not a dress or skirt person. I have removed all patterned clothes to another closet. There were only six of them. I have also donated all my grey clothing and accessories to a charity. I am low contrast in colouring but found the muted heathered colours aged me. Black, navy and whites are my best colours. I now feel better when I get dressed and when I look in my closet. I am still working on the feel of clothes. Living in a four season environment I have some scratchy wool sweaters to deal with. Ontario Canada.

I climb back into joggers or if I can find them stretchy pants. I love being able to relax in comfy stretchy clothes. I would love to wear shirts but can’t be bothered rolling up sleeves whenever I do something. So a simple tee- sleeveless or long suits. I fast walk everyday. I don’t go out much but can wear better pants etc when I need to. I still HATE wearing a bra but have retained boobs I feel are too large so my preference is dark tees. 🦋

Hi from Central PA- I recently retired from the medical profession, and my wardrobe was suits and scrubs, then changed to all scrubs during/after COVID. I am still hanging onto my suits, which I need to ditch. My daily dress is yoga pants and decent workout tops. I need to improve my daily dress ( I think my husband tolerates the attire), and I am not a fan of jeans. I guess looking into nice casual pants that can withstand outside yard work and maybe a few nice button-down shirts- I don't know. My fashion sense left when I started wearing scrubs every day. I feel comfortable in my " going out casual outfits"; however, the day-to-day wear is lacking.

Good morning from Portland, Maine. I’m a nurse- 38 years - now working in the “corporate nursing field” x 8 years. I’m 65 years old -😮-what??? I was just having babies and starting out in life- 😂- I’m getting too old for JCrew, no longer have the budget for Talbots- at least with any consistency- I’ve lost 30 pounds (put on with my corporate desk job) and poor choices- nightly wine to “de stress” I’m not going back to nightly alcohol and carb life- protein all day everyday and feel wonderful. My figure has changed from even my previous thin years……I dread social events because I have little to wear and living in LLBean country is, frankly awful. Unless you’re camping or skiing. I FEEL…exhausted about my midlife style. Struggle every day to maintain classic style. I FEEL….when I’m able to pull together an outfit, my appearance is tasteful, appropriate, and presentable. HOWEVER, it may take 3 tryouts and modifications before I get there. Again, exhausting. I found Carol Tuttle, “Dressing your truth” years ago and have found that very interesting and useful. LOVE YOUR CONTENT AND PLEASE KEEP THESE VIDEOS COMING. I’m learning from you!!❤

Hi I'm a retired petite lady. I wear what I can buy that fits me well. There isn't a great deal of choice in the uk for petite women over 60. Clothing tends to be shoddily made and aimed at young people. I prefer quality well made clothing, classic edgy styles and items that suit my body shape. They're usually like hens teeth as in not easily accessible or very expensive to buy. I'm fairly happy with how I look. I would like a more edgy timeless look to my styles.

Hi from Minnesota, great tips! I’m retiring next July and planning to move closer to family. Can’t wait. I’m saving this video to go through my closet and make the edits you suggest. Love your videos! Thanks.

Hello from Temecula, CA. I am about to turn 70 next month. I retired early due to medical reasons. I was very sick for about 15 years before getting diagnosed with toxic mold, and have been recovering since 2018. I’m a very young 69 year old and all my friends were always younger than me. My style is casual and I feel I’m stuck in the younger years and I’m at a loss of what to wear. I’m also very limited at what I can wear. Because of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, I can only wear a v-neck or scoop neck top. It has to be a deep enough vneck so as not to trigger my nerves in the thoracic area as it can be very painful. The styles coming in this year are pretty much all crew neck. Also, my body is such that high waisted pants are very uncomfortable/painful, so I prefer mid rise. I don’t like having to tuck my tops in as it doesn’t look good on me. I’m 5’4” and weight about 123 lbs. I tend to carry my weight in my tummy. I don’t have many prints in my closet - mostly solid colors. My sister recently commented to me that I don’t wear a lot of color. She wears mostly Chicos brand. I just feel lost as the styles are changing and I’m unable to wear them.

Thank you for giving me some insight into your personal situation! I love v-neck and scoop neck, but most midlife women are against showing the chest area….and midrise pants are getting really hard to find. Alas, we will help you find your midlife style together!

Retired financial advisor and multiple business suit owner here! 3 years in, still transitioning to a more casual dress code- kept my most fabulous blazers and shoes. Our local charities benefiting women do not want any pieces that cannot be machine washed…that leaves most of my work wardrobe out so my challenge remains re-styling those beloved pieces for a different life. Overall, I feel great and now have the freedom to flaunt my inner cowgirl with boots, fringe, etc. 😂

I love hearing this! Your comment definitely highlights that personal style will vary slightly according to region and lifestyle…without being over the top or “trying too hard”. Flaunt that inner cowgirl!

Hi from North Carolina. I'm 76 and very casual. Mostly levi's and t's, but I feel really old looking, blah and dumpy. I am 50 lbs. overweight. I mostly like simple or casual elegance with a nod toward the 1940's-to 1950's but I never wear anything like that. Honestly I just put on the ill fitting jeans and t's or hoodie or sweatshirt, and and just suffer with feeling sloppy.

Hello Andrea, here from the Midwest. The Midwest, because I live in Indianapolis and have a good vacation home on the Illinois River and spent two months during the hot months of the summer in northern Minnesota. In the winter, we live in northern Florida on a yacht with a tiny closet! I am happily married, but have six wonderful grandkids through my husband, of varying ages. We like to go out to eat a lot like and I like to look nice when I go out. Ihave two closets full of clothes and like many women when I go to get an outfit I don’t know what to wear or I just put on the same thing I wore the previous Friday night and that just drives me crazy. I love color so my closets look like a rainbow. I am a fairly tall, overweight, redhead, and have a hard time with all the videos on KZbin because it’s always about a little black dress which I can’t wear because of my complexion. Finding a wonderful tan or brown dress has been very hard for me. But I am still on the hunt. I have watched numerous influencers on KZbin and I have picked up different tips from different ladies. I love that you say don’t wear if you don’t like the way it feels. I have never kept anything that does not feel nice and soft on my skin but it made me think if I wear something and I’m constantly pulling it down or having to tuck it in that it just doesn’t feel right. So it’s time for them to go into the donation pile for a shorter torsoed woman. And I hope she loves the shirts. I am going to donate. It will be hard because I love the look and the style of them, but as you said, they just don’t feel right. I look forward to seeing more of your videos.

I am 65 years old. I feel the same way you did…not wanting to look too young or look too old. I want to follow the trends sometime, but realize I shouldn’t. I wear jeans everyday with T-shirts. I have never worn a lot of jewelry because I don’t have a lot or know how to wear it. I feel too casual and sloppy lot of the time. I do need to lose weight too. I don’t want to waste money buying clothes because my weight is always changing.

It’s good for all of us to have goals, but we also need to meet ourselves where we are at here and now. I’ll post about it soon, but know that it’s okay to buy a few pieces now (even if it’s just something other than a t-shirt) to pair with those jeans. We will get there together! (PS: I started this account on items purchased at the thrift store for under $5…items that look just like what the retailers were selling brand new. *wink*)

About my midlife style; I feel a little better now that I’ve edited my closet thanks to many channels about fashion over 50. Wide leg jeans & trousers are a godsend. As for overall appearance; I know I could do so much better but lack the discipline to go to the gym and cut down on sugar. Most of my life I was happy with my appearance but on my 60th birthday I cried all day because I was miserable. Too many changes all at once.

I’m 64 and on the cusp of leaving corporate life. I don’t know how my retirement style will be. I don’t want it to be too casual. I like workout clothes and that may be the direction I take. Another thought, I have blazers, expensive purses/ bags, and shoes. What do you do with your corporate items when you retire?
@midlifeposhcloset

I hang on to my blazers and wear them for things like dinner or lunch and in place of a coat or jacket. I donated most of my suits to a charity shop - that one hurt but its not up to me what happens to them now.

Do you consider stripes and polka dots as prints? I would love to see stylish lounge wears/ pajamas ideas (lots of prints for me there). Exercise clothes recommendations.

It’s more print tops that are the problem as opposed to bottoms. Most print tops look matronly esp if a woman has extra pounds on her. And pls don’t wear black near the face - black robs the face of color so best to wear shades that flatter your coloring.

I agree about the prints, but respectfully…and politely…disagree about black around the face. 🤗
