It’s a great interview. It’s a pity, but perfectly understandable, that people who went through the war didn’t want to talk about it. It’s great to get this insight.

Maybe, but unlikely, it is worth remembering that the Germans did not help the Jews for free. They often demanded all their property in exchange for documents or help in escape. Unfortunately, many civil Germans made their fortunes this way. Just read Eichmann's testimonies about these practices or reports from bordering countries. And never trust Germans with they fairy tails about war they just want have clean hands now

Many Americans have German heritage roots. I have 3 lines of German roots. My surname was from Wittenberg before 1823 and 1795 when he was born. 2 other lines came from Bavaria near Salzburg and Salzburg, Austria. During WW2, my Father bombed Salzburg 2X to hit railroad yards. This was his Grandmother’s hometown. Americans do whatever it takes for the US to succeed. PS: The Salzburg railroad yards often had Hitler’s train. This may have been a target. Over bombs sites, my Dad took BDA pictures. He also helped develop the pictures. He kept 1 picture from each mission. One of the Salzburg pictures had a hospital train in the middle of the yard. It had a mushroom cloud when hit. It was filled with munitions. Nazi’s have no moral tiller.

That's actually pretty nuts to think about how many American soldiers were likely of German descent. Obviously people were doing their duty to fight for America, but I wonder if they ever felt any complex emotions about it or not.
@stephensipe5405 Жыл бұрын
@@timothyswag3594 Maybe if you had relatives in Germany you communicated with, your perspective would be different. My family tree had Scottish roots right from the beginning. My 2ND American Grandfather was an Ohio Volunteer in the Civil War. My Dad grew up in the “Germantown” section of his small city. After WW1, which my Grandfather missed by age, the Dad said there was prejudice during the late 1920s towards everyone in that neighborhood. It did not stop him from enlisting along with his brother on Monday, December 8TH.
