I know a lot of salons kind of frown upon clients who try to do it themselves (I'm sure only when the clients fuck up though lmfao) but the main reason I haven't dyed my hair in such a long time is because I do nooooottttt want to even touch bleach, but I do want to experiment with colors at home!

sameethehairstylist i did it myself and it looks fine. a few yellow tones, but nothing that cant be fixed easily. ive also had it done proffesionally. not much difference in my experience

Well yes some stylists are still inexperienced, so i never recommend just walking into a salon and going to anyone. Definitely do your research. Especially now that alot of stylists post their work online.

***** I love lavender hair!! It will look magical! Pravana makes a beautiful lavender color in their pastel line, but you can also just use a few drops of their purple vivids with conditioner and make your own! I just know buying the pastels means I can't mess it up haha! I'm not one for surprises!

Heidi Linder I'm planning on doing a video on this soon, but one thing that has really saved my hair is Olaplex. I use the conditioner once a week and it has given my hair life! I also use the Pureology shampoo, conditioner, and leave in conditioner for platinum hair. I think the line is called "Perfect 4 Platinum" but it's great for any blonde hair or heavily lifted hair.

You have inspired me to do this! I LOVE this vintage mermaid color feel! I currently have about 4 inches of grow out a band of brassy blonde and the ends are bright. Any suggestions as to how to lift/bleach the most efficiently without going to the salon, Salons near me do more harm than good, I'd rather do it myself. I normally bleach with Clairol Basic White and a 40 (in two separate bleachings, one back head, one top head, washing inbetween, and I use 40 cuz after having kids my hair resists bleaching for whatever reason) Any Luck or info on the L'Oréal les blondissemes platinum collection (out of box)??? Could I do a box of that and then do this Pravana color? Or just avoid boxes all together? I tried a box years ago that was great (maybe a nice & easy kit?) but haven't had much luck since and avoid box bleaching for that reason since I brass. Thanks for your time!

I love your ombre hair, it's so cool! When my hair is longer I'm hopefully going to ombre it, right now I'm just letting my roots grow in! I love the Pravana, but anyone reading this be warned: if you're using the vivids instead of pastels either mix with the silver or clear...I used the concentrated vivid violet on my hair once and it stained literally everything purple. Eek.

Fairly Interested Ah!! Yes! This is why I used just a few drops of blue in with the silver instead of adding the whole bottle! It would have been bright blue if I would have used the whole thing! That's what I love about the pastel line, I don't have to worry about mixing it exactly the same every time with conditioner and the vivids. I can't wait to see how your hair turns out when it's longer girl! I already love the purple, so I can only imagine it will be amazing!

I've seen some girls start with bleaching the ends of their hair and adding color to see if they like it. Plus it's a bit more subtle if you're not wanting a head of blue hair! I say why not? Haha!

Couple questions, do you bleach out all of your hair before doing this? How often and how long do you leave the bleach on? Or do you fade it out other ways? Carol M Thank you so much for the question and for showing some love!! Okay, I'm horrible at explaining things, but here we go haha! I usually bleach to the color of butter and tone with a violet toner to get out the yellow color. If you have previously colored hair and it doesn't lift past a banana color, don't push it any further and just try to tone as much yellow out with a purple toner as possible. If your hair is still yellow, it's fine, but the end result will just be the dye color plus the yellow color of your hair. I explain it as taking a blue marker and drawing on a white piece of paper vs. a yellow piece of paper. The blue will look different because the base is different. Same with hair color. +jmb3270 Hey friend!! Thank you so much for the comment and question!! I would say wash it before you dye it to make sure there's nothing on your hair blocking the cuticle from absorbing the color. You should still be fine if you wait a day, but I always dye it with clean hair just to make sure my hair absorbs it completely and has a nice even application! Hopefully that helps ya!! I love this! How long do you find it takes to fade completely and does it ever completely fade back to blonde? I have some lilac in my hair and have no idea what to expect in the fading process.

Jacqueline Hay Thank you so much! The look of my hair in the beginning of the video was after 4 washes if that gives you a good idea. I'm pretty sure it will go back to blonde if I just let it fade, but I haven't let it get that far yet. I used the lavender color last summer though and it faded back to blonde. I only wash my hair once a week, so I think the lasting factor just depends on how much you wash it. I would say the color was completely out of my hair after a month and a half or so. I hope this helps!!

To answer your question, bleach does damage your hair (unfortunately) it's the worst part about bleaching! There's a new product called Olaplex, and it helps rebuild the bonds in your hair while bleaching it. So freaking cool!!! If you cruise over to their site (olaplaex.com), you can find a salon in your area that uses it when bleaching hair. I would say this is the best way to minimize damage when bleaching! My silver hair tutorial shows what my hair color was before I started this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpCtZZxqbp6jg68 there's the link to the video, it also shows the product I use during the fading process. To keep my color looking somewhat refreshed I just use the Fanci Full product in the silver hair tutorial every time I wash my hair. It keeps me from having to go through this process more than I want to haha! Also, my natural hair color is a level 6-7ish and I lift my roots to the color of butter and tone out with a violet toner. No worries my friend!! I totally wasn't trying to be as if, errr the downfalls of typing haha! It never comes out quite right! I always worry about weird fading, so I always add some Fanci Full to save the day!! The Pravana cool tones fade cool though even without the fanci full, so if you didn't want to use that stuff it will still fade out nicely. Hopefully that was more helpful haha... I'm pretty terrible at explaining things eep!!

Did you mix the blue with the pastel blue? I noticed that the first tube of blue was much darker than the second, but second step just said "squeeze blissful blue into bowl". I wasn't sure if both tubes were blissful blue and the colors just were a little different,which is happened to me with Pravana colors, or if they were two different colors. If you did say mix Pravana blue with the blissful blue and I missed it, I'm sorry. I'm doing my hair tomorrow and want to make sure I use the right colors. I just stumbled across your channel and I'm binge watching all of your videos. You have such a unique style and are so fun to watch! I'm so glad I found this tutorial because this is exactly what I wanted to do with my hair ❤️❤️❤️

Also, such an awesome question, because I was actually double checked to make sure it was right when I was doing it since one tube almost looked like the neon blue, but they were both Blissful Blue. It actually made me a bit nervous when I was mixing it, but it came out the exact same as any other time I used it. I'm not sure if one tube was older than the other, but hey it turned out the same haha! Okay, so to make sure I'm not being confusing (cuz I tend to do that a lot) both bottles were the Blissful Blue, and they were true to color even though the tubes looked like two different colors. +Jade The Libra thanks for your reply! I've had that happen with Pravana Vivids before. With the silver and wild orchid. The wild orchid turned came out much darker and more red than usual but on my hair it came out the same color as it always had but the silver was much lighter than normal and came across that way on my hair. Thanks again for getting back to me! I did my hair today and it looks so good! All thanks to you and this tutorial.

BeautyJunki101 I went to hair school and did hair for 5 years, but it wasn't for me. I love the experience I gained and having the trade, and I still do hair for friends and family! I went into it wanting to do more artistic and alternative hairstyles, and I did so little of that it really drained my creativity and my passion for it. Also, Pravana is a pro product, but you can get it on Amazon or Ebay or through friends or family who have their license like Jessica mentioned! I definitely need to try the KoKo lashes!! You seemed like a good person to ask! So my hair is already ombre/baliyaged, dark brown to light blond. And inneed to tone it to get lavender but if i get wella t18 in my brown hair.. Will it change colors too???

laina King Hey girl hey!!! Your brown hair shouldn't change colors if you put the toner in it. If anything, it will give a slight hue to your brown color. I'm with Sophia on this, just put it on the blonde part to be sure, but don't be scared if a little overlaps into the brown part. It's better to fully saturate the blonde part than to be too precise and miss the edge where the blonde meets the brown (if that makes sense) Hope this helps!!
