How I Get Rid of Brush from June 29, 2021

-29 Celcius this morning. Maybe this will keep you warm. This is how I used to get rid of branches, roots, stumps, and all that junk. I have new better way now.

Lol, everytime I burn leaves or brush there is always that few minutes when it all really catches and I start wondering if I made a mistake. It usually settles down after awhile but what you had there was definitely one of those almost "oh crap" moments, lol.

I had a fire about twelve years ago. I was pushing brush piles with the backhoe and the fire exploded. We had a fire over 80 feet high in just minutes. My five year old son was sitting on my lap in the backhoe. The ground was shaking. I told my wife we are never doing that again. I thought this would warm people up. It's been cold here.

@@JourneymanRandylol, brush fires can go sideways when least expected. I saw a video a few years ago that was a forensic investigation of a fire burst in less than an half acre or so that killed a couple of forest fire fighters. Basically, it burnt the brush fast enough in a small area to exhaust all the oxygen to choke the guys to the point they could not escape. It was an extreme example in perfect storm conditions but it left an impression.

That's why I burn it. If I just piled it up for the last ten or more years it would be ticking time bomb. The park about a half mile from me cought fire one summer and water bombers were trying to put it out. I had no way of knowing if my house would be there until I got home. I'm always careful and happy when the pile is gone.

If you were to wait till this time of year you could let it burn about 80%, then dump a couple buckets of snow on it, and have a tone of biochar for the garden, in the spring...

We have four or five five fires every year and usually bigger. Not as much fun since the Fire department came.
