This is incredible! Literally walking up to someone, nervous as hell...willing to just ASK even knowing there's a chance of absolute denial. Moral of the story...find the movies filming, find the location, walk up to someone until they point you in the right direction/ to the person in charge... have your elevator pitch ready/know what you want to say... then watch God work! So happy for you! So inspiring!

This is such a classically NYC story. I lived in NYC in my 20s and did something similar when I got my agent and became a celebrity makeup artist. I moved to L.A. and tried similar tactics and they're not having it. You will be blacklisted and NEVER work if you don't do everything according to "the rules". I was acting and I managed to get into an audition with a casting agent, but I didn't have representation. The casting agent loved me, and then she asked for my agent and I explained I'd not been able to get anyone to even meet me about repping me. She flipped out and told me I had to learn protocol. I was shook. She was literally cheering at my audition, then bitched me out a moment later. She refused to answer my calls after that. L.A. does not prize tenacity and resourcefulness. It's heartbreaking.

I been applying since I was 18 with zero experience and NEVER GOT CALLED. So I kept working my normal jobs and it was always in the back of my head "YOU NEED TO GET BACK TO THIS!!!!" So I did. Went on to becoming a videographer / photographer and even now that I'm 33 years old, I still haven't been able to get called back from anyone. Even with a degree. So my conclusion to this journey is... Its not what you know its who you know!!! Still haven't given up!

I graduated in film Production last year, in the pandemic too.😣 I’ve mainly been doing retail jobs to earn some money but I’m really trying to be serious about getting into film, as I know that Tesco is not my forever 😂 how’s everything going for you? Have you found anything yet or have you networked with people since you made this comment? Maybe we could share knowledge and start networking across the pond, rather than up, since we’re both in similar positions☺️

@@user-xe2pe3op6u heyyy, funnily enough I got a call last Sunday asking if I was available on Monday for a Covid assistant role on a BBC3 drama series! Very last minute but luckily I was unemployed and free 😂. This has been the first role I got from the TV industry… and I got in contact with the guy that called by coming up to a filming crew and asking if I could send my details/CV to him! I guess someone dropped out and they needed to fill the position last min… great for my CV. It’s not my dream job ofc but it’s certainly a good step in the right direction. Would love to keep in touch 👍😄😄
@MegaJohnOtto3 жыл бұрын
My advice is to email, DM or message every single production company in London, introduce yourself and tell them what you would like from them (asking to volunteer might help), then tell them to please direct you to a person who you can send your resume/cv too for consideration. Most will not respond, some will respond but not take any further action but you will definitely fine at least one that will give you an opportunity. I found my one yes through doing this and I’ve never looked back. The difference might be that I’m in Joburg but the entertainment industry is pretty standard worldwide in terms of approaching work opportunities. You should also be willing to work for small production companies for exposure

In any line of work networking is the number one skill to master to get ahead. You have to be brave and put yourself outside of your comfortable bubble. The ones who can do it are usually the ones who forge ahead.
@msjonehundred3 жыл бұрын
That was brave of you to boldly walk onto a film set. Whenever I see film sets filming I always shy away and don’t bother them although I would be interested in working. I know what I’ll do the next time I see someone filming. I did the traditional route by submitting my resume and my career took off by being hired by the one person who gave me a chance. I’m so grateful for that guy. I’m now a producer for unscripted projects but I want to get into doing scripted projects. How well are you treated as a set PA?
@brittanicunningham2 жыл бұрын
haha thank you! Never considered myself to be brave but I had to in that moment! 😄 For me personally, I believe that you are responsible for how other people treat you when in the work force meaning, I don't take people's shit. Just because you are a PA does not mean your position is any less important than any other crew member (that's the way I go about it)
@msjonehundred2 жыл бұрын
@@brittanicunningham I absolutely agree with you on being treated fairly no matter what position you have. I’ve always advocated this. Thanks for your response. I was curious of your experience in that regards bc people always say PAs aren’t treated well. I’ve had some good and bad experiences as a PA but mostly good experiences. Keep up the good work and continue to pursue your dreams. 💫 😊

I've been searching Indeed as well as company websites I'd like to work for and have submitted my resume many many times and have been unsuccessful. It is discouraging - very discouraging. I have connected with a few seasoned people in the business who I felt could have referred me to a position within their company - even just to get my foot in the door - again unsuccessful. I guess I'll have to continue to remain optimistic and network with hopes that I will get the job and career I'm seeking. Thanks again for sharing your story which encouraged and inspired me.
