Still in SA currently learning Korean, Japanese, Cambodian, Thai, Hindi, Amharic, Swahili & Chinese Then later Spanish, Arabic, Hawaiian, Afrikaans...etc. I'm 3rd year dropout (financial constraints) both parents are unemployed..only hope is to go finish my last year

Hey, the application for feb 2022 starts in August. You could start preparing initial documents (recommendation letters and school letters) before August. Right now is the best time to get TEFL/TESOL certificate if you don’t have a teaching degree.

To be able to come and teach English in South Korea you must come from one of these countries; South Africa, the US, Canada, the U.K, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

Happy to hear that. So after you receive your contract, you will have to visit the Korean embassy in Pretoria with required documents (passport,visa application form, passport photos and your contract). The fee is R600 I think not 100% sure.

Hey, so the course is easy to understand and straightforward. And you can finish it in a week or two or even more time depends on you. As far as I know it is recognized in other Asian countries and you can even use it to teach English online.

I would like to apply for a paid internship once I'm done, which I would have to pay for, but I would get paid whilst completing it. But, do you think there's a high chance of just landing a job wihlthout doing the internship first? What is your opinion of the tefl job market for South Africans?

I believe there’s a chance to get a job without getting an Internship first. As long as you have your TEFL, you are mostly likely to get hired. Prior COVID it was easier for us get a job but now obviously things have changed.
