Thank you for the video. I just shadowed a CAA yesterday and I loved it. Definitely going back for more shadowing. The CAA I shadowed is friends with the directors at both South and Nova (one of the locations) and he stressed that more shadowing hours will help with the application than just 8 hours.

Hello, Thank you so much for your fantastic content! I have a bachelor's degree in Economics and zero clinical/medical experience. I never pursued a career in the medical field because I didn't want to go to medical school or take the CRNA route, but I've been interested in anesthesia all my life. I'm 25 now and think the CAA might be a suitable pathway for me. I can get through the prerequisite courses just fine; I'm concerned that I will seem like the wrong candidate for not having medical experience. What would be your advice to obtain the hands-on experience I need to be admitted into a CAA program? I feel as though the clock is ticking, and if I'm going to go back to school, it has to be now while I still have the energy.

Thanks for sharing. I am a Respiratory Therapist that just finished my Bachelors this past Summer in Cardiopulmonary Science. I havent shadowed any CAAs other then when I had to get my intubation competencies done a few years ago, but I am working towards getting into Nova or South now. I reached out to South but they didnt really provide much information on the program, I just saw that it is a lot cheaper than Nova.
@cody1429 Жыл бұрын
I will say the counselor at Nova did mention RT having a leg up on the application since a lot of an RTs skills are directly transferable to CAA (intubation, art line insertion, and vent management), but I am not trying to just bank on that.

Was your work experience as a pharmacist technician “acceptable” patient care experience for AA application? And did you have to get your license as PT for your work experience to be counted as patient care? I highly appreciate your time!

Hello, thank you for sharing this video with us. I have a rough journey ahead of me. So I didn't take my undergrad seriously years ago and have an abysmal 2.8 gpa in Visual Art😅. I had no idea what I wanted to do or what I was doing back then. My plan to make up for this is to 1) become a RT (currently taking prereqs and am also a pharmacy tech) 2) get a whole new bachelor's degree in either biology or chemistry and do well in it. Also want to become a chemistry tutor and do some more volunteer work. Wish me luck 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊

I heard that some hospitals may have virtual student observer services you can sign up for. I would try to contact the school to see if they're wavering the requirement due to the pandemic or to see if they have a list of hospitals that offers shadowing currently.

Hi @Jasmine what are your thoughts (your professors) on the job outlook of AA say in the next 5 years? It seems it's starting to pick up and competition is growing too.
@areebebrahim39 Жыл бұрын
It's likely that the scope of the field will continue to grow in the coming years. Yes it's true that the field is growing and there is more competition, but it's also true that more and more states are starting to allow CAAs to practice. Basically, the growing number of CAAs will end up matching the demand as more states start allowing CAAs to practice.

You don't have to shadow AAs only! You can reach out to hospitals or clinics that have anesthesiologists or CRNAs working to get in your experience. Some of them may have an online section for student observer that you can sign up for.

Thanks for your video! Do you have any insight into how competitive aa school is? Number of applicants vs. How many get accepted?
@jasminecaa3 жыл бұрын
It is pretty competitive. The number of applicants vs. seat offered varies with the program you apply to. One program may only want 18 students while another will accept over 30. Out of hundreds of submitted applications, a rough estimate of 100-150 candidates are invited for interviews at each program. The school's program website might provide more accurate numbers.

Yes! Your degree background doesn’t have to be science related as long as you get all the prereqs in since that’s what the school will look at. I’d expect 1-2 interview questions about your non-science major though but use it to your advantage and discuss the change of interests in your personal statement!

A good bit. We talk to the patient in pre-op to get to know their medical history and do an airway assessment. Afterwards, we're by their side throughout the whole surgery until we transfer them either to PACU or ICU.
