Life with a Vent

Күн бұрын

There is one date on the calendar which forever changed my life. It is October 10. Every year, I try to ignore the day, but its significance is etched in my mind. The anniversary marks the day my dreams were cancelled. My life went from pursuing my lifelong goal of becoming a physician to laying on the ground surrounded by broken dreams. #lifewithavent #followyourdreams #lifesupport

Young lady, NEVER doubt your strength and value! You may not have been able to complete med school (You didn't fail, you just took a medical discharge), you still do what a physician is to do: To teach others, to help others. Galen would be proud of you! I love that you have voice inflection. I think that is the other thing people worry about, that they will wound like 1980s robots, all mechanical-like. I can see you've put an awful lot of work into regaining your voice. Take care. And God Bless!

My friend was in medical school when he was diagnosed with a brain tumour. One of the greatest blessings he had was being accepted into the program in texas. Where one of the best oncologists was his professor. Who not only diagnosed him, but treated him. It delayed his schooling a couple years. But he returned to school and continue pursuing being a an oncologist. I couldnt imagine being in medical school seeking medical help. You’re only human and you’d feel vulnerable. Im newer to your channel and learned lots.

I too, have a permanent tracheostomy. And February 27th of every year, changed my life forever. I have tracheobroncomalacia. I had the surgery that was supposed to fix the trachea and the bronchial tube. However if you knew me you wouldn't be surprised that I would fall into the 1 percentile of it being more serious. I have malaria or collapse in my lungs and the upper trachea. It doesn't even have a name for it yet. I am somewhat a lab rat since everything is new for me and the doctors. Thank you for making these videos...i wanted to do something like this because in 2017 there was nothing on KZbin or the internet and i was scared to death. I am on oxygen 24/7 6 liters and sleep with a ventilator only at night or naps. I wanted to do some videos to put peoples mind at rest that was having one done. Then I thought it still would have been scary. Thank you. I know these will help. Information and knowledge is power. God bless.

In April 2019, I heard - Tell them I am coming soon. Later in the day I heard: There will be a great shaking. When I didn't tell a particular church about it, I got a dream where I was scared. I could hear myself saying: I'll tell them, I'll tell them, I'll tell them. Then I saw a person in the dark with well lit church windows behind him and another person dressed in white walking behind him and up some stairs. Jesus is coming. On April 9, 2021, my vision went black for a quick moment, I saw in gold letters - Thus saith the Lord. Four hours later? On April 10, in my sleep I heard - Prophet. Tell them I am coming soon. Maybe 3-5 min after that, at 1235 AM, our area had a 3.1 eq.

good i've got some illness, and within two days of it i went to the hospital to see a urologist. i told her the cause (i delayed my toilet visit because my bathroom's ceiling had a problem for many hours). i told her the symptoms - none of them match a uti- and she suggested me to do a blood sample and a urine sample which wouldn't show anything wrong because i don't have a uti. so guess what did the urologist tell me? drink water oh, and i thought i was supposed to eat water. my bad so i haven't gone to a doctor since, because my mom thought my overstretched bladder would get back to its former shape on its own. i have symptoms that match with overflow incontinence and urinary retention 24/7. i told the doctor about these alarming symptoms and she told me to drink water. about 4 months into this illness i started seeing bubbles in my urine, having dull pain where my kidneys are and sometimes the pain would get get worse. these are the complications of my severe urinary retention that damaged my kidneys. that was my senior year of highschool. in june, i had to go to another hospital because the illness haven't gotten any better on its own, and i did the same tests. this time, i had a trace of protein in my urine (which explains the bubbles). and i didn't have a uti. added to these tests, i did an ultra sound that showed that my bladder was distended. so, guess what did this other urologist do? he dismissed the trace of protein and the bladder the distension. he prescribed urikind (a supplement that i read is for utis), and some medication called vesicare. and guess what? vesicare is not for my illness because (as written on the paper that comes in the box) it's not for those who can't empty their bladder properly. my urologist knows this. and guess what? on the day i got this prescription, i complained to him that i couldn't intentionally (i still had the overflow incontinence) urinate at all since the past couple of days. you see, my urinary retention got even worse, and he still recommended me the medication that says it's not meant for those who have urinary retention! and guess what their price was??? in the hospital's pharmacy urikind is worth 6usd (not my currency, but just for reference) vesicare is worth 130usd another pharmacy nearby urikind is worth 4usd vesicare is worth 30usd a hundred dollars difference!!! i swear these doctors are in it for the money i currently take urikind only, because i've asked the pharmacist about the fact the vesicare is not for those who have urinary retention, and he said that i shouldn't take it and it's overactive bladder, which is quite the opposite of what i have. i don't even get an urge to urinate anymore! and when that urologist gave the prescription he didn't even give me a diagnosis or explain to me what was exactly happening. when i handed him the ultrasound result, he didn't even read it, i pointed out that it said my bladder was distended but he just told me to go the hospital's pharmacy get the prescription and do the tests a month later. why would i even have to do the test again if my illness would go away with the prescription. what a scammer! considering urikind is just a supplement, i didn't think it would change anything, and it didn't change anything. but honestly, the bubbles or proteinuria has gotten a lot worse. .... one night my kidney pain got so severe that i couldn't help but cry, my mom saw that, and she decided she'd would take me to like the only medical complex where i live. she took me there to the emergency branch, the consultation doctor had me do the good old tests to check if i had an infection or not (and i again told her the cause of my illness and the symptoms that don't match uti at all). to my surprise, it came negative for an infection. she dismissed me! like she doesn't have any manners at all. it was the end of her shift, and she just disappeared without referring me to any doctor. my mom would've just given up on me if a friend of the family who took us to the hospital didn't tell us that we could just book an appointment with a urologist ourselves. anyways, it's after 2 months. i think i have wasted about 500 dollars so far with all those consultation and doctor visits. if i had that kind of money to begin with, i would've gotten the bathroom's problem fixed myself, instead of waiting for the landlord to fix it 8MONTHS AFTER my illness started.

Jesus Christ is the only LORD GOD our HEALER who took upon Himself our infirmities and died for our transgressions. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him and by his stripes we are healed. Jesus Christ bore all our sicknesses. Believe on the LORD JESUS CHRIST and you will be saved you and your family. Read the Bible and pray. He sends His Word and heals us. The prayer of faith will heal the sick. I couldn't walk for three days. I got this verse from God. The prayer of faith will heal the sick. I repeated the same Verse again and again and I was healed miraculously. Praise the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY FATHER in the mighty name of JESUS CHRIST. With love and prayers.JesusChrist is Wonderful, Counsellor, Prince of Peace, Mighty God, Everlasting Father.

God bless you young lady. Your channel popped up today on my 69 birthday and is a literal godsend. My life has turned out nothing like I wanted it to be, but unlike yourself mine was self inflicted through alcoholism, drugs and in my case, severe legal consequences. However I have now been sober for almost 16 years and truly treasure it. Sometimes though I let myself slip into despond and self pity which is useless. Thanks for being that ray of hope and sunshine I needed today. And, truly, no one knows what God's ultimate purpose is for us. Keep being useful. Thank you for sharing. I am so sorry to hear this. I cannot imagine everything you have gone through. A resource which I found to be extremely helpful about endometriosis is a website and Facebook group called Nancy's Nook. If you are not part of the Facebook group, it may be worthwhile for you to join. The information I learned on Nancy's Nook very likely saved my life. When I had a rapidly growing ovarian cyst in 2022, every surgeon I saw wanted to rip out my lady parts. I was told this would likely send me into a health crash and kill me. I then found doctors on Nancy's Nook. There were only two doctors in a 6 hour radius who treated endometriosis appropriately. I choose the doctor who took my insurance. He left all my organs in place, removed the cyst and did a three hour surgery to rid my pelvic cavity of endometriosis. The endometriosis has come back, but it is no where near what it was in 2022. Nancy has excellent resources both on the website and Facebook group about endometriosis, her very long battle with the disease and the work she has done to train doctors on how to properly treat endometriosis. She also has a list of doctors which she and/or her staff have vetted and have approved for endometriosis. The list is constantly updated to add or delete doctors. For many people, after getting the appropriate treatment, their endometriosis has gone away. For others, their endometriosis has come back. I am not claiming the website or the Facebook group may have the perfect doctor or course of treatment for you, but it is a great place to find community and know you are not alone in your struggles. Here is the link to the website: nancysnookendo.com/ Here is the link to the Facebook group: facebook.com/groups/418136991574617/

I’ve struggled with depression and mental illness for most of my life. Only recently have I come to believe that all human life is precious and sacred, extremely valuable and should never be taken for granted. When I was young, I also thought that my only value was in my achievements. I was wrong. My life is the most valuable asset I have, not my achievements or my image or my job title. Human life. And to try my best to take care of my life and the lives of others too, to the best of my abilities.

Thank you. I try to remind myself and other people to make it a habit of cherishing things in our lives, rather than disparaging them. Sometimes, even painful experiences produce good fruit. I’m a firm believer in that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and wiser. To be completely honest, my experience with people in medicine is that they don’t always value human life as much as they value the money and the prestige of being doctors. I’ve met lots of overworked doctors and nurses who don’t take care of their own health as much as they should.

You are so awesome. I can relate. 3 years into med school I was driving to school and boom. Someone ran a red light. C2 was fractured. Just like that. I planned on going back but as my class graduated I realized my ship had sailed. It was devastating but it turned out to be a blessing. You are a blessing to thousands. You are helping others in ways you never could foresee. Thank you.

People must be able to express what they have dreamed and worked torwards while also expressing their emotions around that loss. Saying it’s not the end of the world, can be very hurtful when someone has put years in to meet their dream and then have it removed from them due to health conditions. You probably mean well, but well meaning words can land wrong depending who you say them to, so I would advice you to not share dismissive advice to strangers, especially when they have expressed their actual struggle. They mention a new outlook of life through this channel, and that is wonderful. Maybe focus on that instead of sharing it’s not a big deal to lose ones dream. I studied law at uni. and I know the hard work it takes to align your grades to get to a popular and very demanding uni. education. Then it’s all the stress and hard work it takes to pass the exams. Medicine school is also tough, and to see all that investment go away is a big deal and takes time to work through when it wasn’t a decision made by the person themself! Choose compassion instead❤ /Scandinavian Edit: Spelling errors😌

I shared my perspective out of compassion, not to dismiss anyone’s feelings. I understand the commitment it takes to pursue a field like medicine-I’ve gone through it myself and know how challenging it is. My intent was to remind her that she has value and strength beyond any single goal. We’re all on social media to share opinions, and I expressed mine respectfully without any rude or hurtful language. Not everyone will see things the same way, but that doesn’t make my message any less valid.

While I understand that you ment well by saying this. Please try to understand the grief that comes with becoming disabled and having that change everything and remove you involuntary from your dream career path. As it can be invalidating to have someone be all like it's not the end of the world, you're awesome without doing that so get over it.

You are absolutely incredible. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was applying to medical school four years ago when my chronic illnesses became too severe for me continue. I still haven't given up the dream, but it feels further and further away every day, and it's devastating. Like you, my entire life was based on this dream. I think your purpose is so much greater than just going to medical school. Your background and your experience are both valuable no matter how you use them. But I think you are putting your talents and your knowledge to perfect use. The medical community has a lot to learn from you and your experiences. You are a natural teacher and leader. It is an absolute tragedy that disabled people, who are so desperately needed in medicine, are kept out of the profession because of the medical profession's inherent ableism. I hope something miraculous happens and you are able to go back to med school. You are a survivor, and you have so much to offer to this world no matter what. Ahh I'm so angry for you, but not surprised that it took over 80 doctors to diagnose your POTS. I thought of POTS right away. Medical training is hard, bordering on impossible, I'm sure. But what you have survived and are currently surviving is many times harder. And you did it all while going to med school and maintaining straight As. You are a legend.

I came across your KZbin channel while I was researching tracheotomies. Your videos are so valuable to me in so many ways. I was researching this procedure because my boyfriend recently had been taken off the ventilator in ICU. I still can't believe this happened but it has. His family decided to have him extubated because of being told if he had a tracheostomy he would be institutionalized for the rest of his life. I knew my boyfriend better than any of his family did. They claimed he would not want to live that way. My boyfriend was alert, still kept muscular strength , he understood his place in the ICU, he was trying to breath on his own. But they claimed he was on the ventilator to long at 14 days and a decision needed to be made in what to do. So they took out his tube and he died after he got filled with anxiety therefore a morphine dose was delivered where he instantly died. If I had been notified of this decision I would have tried to stop it. I knew my boyfriend wanted to live and if a tracheostomy was to help him live then he would of tried to do it. You helped me see it was possible and is possible to live with this procedure. I like your comment of a piece of plastic. It makes the whole idea of a tracheostomy so minimal and adaptable vs the bogus ideas we have about them. Thank you so much.

Dear, you are no less than a critical care doctor, my dad is suffering from ALS and we got Tracheostomy done for him on July 10, I stumbled upon your video when I was searching how to do TrachTube change. As every month we get TrachTube change, and dad bleeds internally in his throat, blood goes into his lungs and he get pnemonia, he goes through lot of stress still he is suffering due to the trachtube change which was done on Nov 05 2021. Your video is so informative. Thank you for sharing the steps for TrachTube change.

@@LifewithaVent today we went to hospital to get dad's trachia and trachtube examined. Doctor observed that there is granulation at the tip of the trachtube inside. We need to get rid of the granulation. Don't know how. During 3rd trachtube change, injury was caused inside, and dad had lot of bleeding. I think while that healed, it also caused granulation and making the trachtube stick to the inner lining of trachea.

Yes! You are and have impacted my life and my daughter’s already! I’ve started doing some research based on your experiences you mention as a child, on how to be more proactive than I have been with my daughter’s mitochondrial disease and in turn my own. I completely understand working toward a career that does not come to fruition. I was first on the path to medical school, but as I got into labs was told that my lack of fine motor coordination would make it impossible. So, since I was taking foreign language, I decided to become a linguist. I spent years in college to become a professor, but now I cannot work. My day is full of coping with health issues non stop. The first question that always comes out of people’s mouths to me is whether I work, or when will I work or why don’t I do something more to work. I’m completely unpredictable day to day though as to what I’m capable of. It does frustrate me that most people around me simply do not understand. However, I feel like I am going to set my purpose to getting my daughter healthier earlier in her life so that perhaps her endurance for latter years will be greater. So, thank you!!!!!
