Hi guys! First of all, I want to apologize for my congestion and nasally voice in this video. I was battling a mean cold and didn't want to miss this weeks video.
I read your comments on the "How I got into Med School" video, and you all seemed to want to hear about the residency and social media journey as well. So here we go. In this weeks video, I wanted to have an intimate conversation about my path of getting into residency, my experiences in residency, as well as how my social media route began.Being a doctor and the residency match are both complex topics. This is a much longer video than usual, and I was debating if I should split it into two parts, but the stories seemed too intertwined to separate.
I will make shorter videos in the future about social media and residency success. I really just wanted to share with you my family medicine residency journey as I hope it may inspire you or at the very least entertain you. If you enjoy this video, please give it a like, and if you want more intimate conversation style videos like this one, please let me know in the comments below! Stay happy and healthy!

Back in the day doctors were strictly restricted to their hospitals and their medical rooms. But with technology and social media revolution, every profession has to evolve. If people say that Dr Mike is not honouring medical profession then they are stuck in the old days. I really love the work he is doing and the knowledge he spreads. Very genuine ( SOmething that's very rare nowadays). Dr. MIKE is the next generation DOCTOR. Accept it or not but evolution in any form always wins.

Why is he expected to treat anyone free of cost? What's the problem if he makes money by using social media? How is that violating any medical ethics? He's not revealing any information about his patients, he's not doing anything illegal. If anything, he's helping future applicants by giving them all this information about his personal journey.

micky doll - why do you expect doctors (and for other people, attorneys) to work pro bono? They are giving a service and deserve to be paid. When you go to a car dealer do you expect the same, what about a restaurant? Wall street worker? Policemen? Senators? How about everyone work in service of others and no one takes a paycheck! 😑 I've never understood this phenomenal expectation for doctor/attorneys.

I wish I found out about your channel earlier. I just got my license to practice nursing as a registered nurse and I had lots of doubts during my student days. Being a nurse was never my first choice. I always loved psychology and I aspired to be a clinical psychologist but money was the problem in my family so, I was lucky enough to be offered a scholarship to study Diploma in Nursing. There were so many things that you've said in this video that I related as a nurse because it is true no matter what profession you go into. It wasn't a walk in the park for me either. I used to dread clinical postings because I would have to work odd hours, I couldn't hang out with my friends much and I felt depressed about it. I was also always scared of asking questions but in my 3rd year of nursing school, I had so much of positivity in me and I loved learning more. Thank you for sharing your story. Love from Malaysia! ♥️

I started documenting my journey on Intermittent Fasting and mind management on my own channel and aspire to reach the number of people that you have reached. I love that you prioritize the need for education on social media!! Thank you for being a genuine doctor and being real. There's so much fake news and false information out there. It's nice to have someone who is genuinely concerned about the truth and science behind the topic! I know when I listen to what you have to say, I'm getting a genuine explanation from someone who knows what they're talking about. I also loved getting to hear about your medical journey! I've been a CNA, nurse tech, for a few years now, am currently in school to be a surg tech, and am even starting to look into becoming a DO/MD one day! I'm 24 and sometimes need reassurance that it's possible and I can do it. You inspire and encourage me. Thanks for being a real one, Dr. Mike, and congratulations on the well earned accomplishments!!

Anyone who criticizes your adept and skilled use of social media to get the knowledge across that you want to help people is JEALOUS plain and simple. Using whatever resource we have to educate and uplift is the way to go. I applaud your efforts to be a positive influence in the world, especially as so many are more concerned with money over people's well being, and how much you obviously want to make a difference in people's lives. Dante Velasquez I'm sure he's a good dude and is a fine physician, but tbh the info he gives in his vids is not that great and At times is it misleading. The guy is simply taking advantage of his good looks to make money with KZbin vids and I don't blame him at all for that. There's no shame in using your talents/assets to get ahead, no issue with that. But there are sooo many med students and young physicians trying to make money like this and very few are actually putting really valuable content out there. Can't say this guy is one of them.

I'm glad I found this channel. It's truly a very impactful and positive place. Your mindset and personality is inspiring and taught me a lot. I hope that you can continue to help and do what you like to do. I haven't found many people that I can look up to, as a role model or as a person in general, but you made the list. Thank you a lot Mike!

Beautiful man! This is a very old video and I don’t know if you’ll even see it but the compassion, empathy, and genuine care comes across in your voice and demeanor. Taking all financials out of the picture (because being a good looking physican with massive following you could push a things down our minds/bodies) I think you’re killing it man! You have a vibe that is very rare, not just in physicians but in people in general. I’m 31 so only slightly your senior but I watch your videos all the time so felt the need to comment. Thanks for all you do man!

Hey Doctor Mike, I really appreciate your honesty and ability to be genuine in sharing your experiences about your medical school journey and beyond. It was really insightful and interesting to hear first-hand what residency is like. I have heard a lot of people say that residency is the toughest stage of your medical journey, but I never could grasp why. Thank you for uploading this video, it was really rare to see something so genuine and honest. I also applaud you for the fact that you use social media and your KZbin account to spread positive and encouraging messages and of course, how to stay healthy. I am never bored by the content that you release for all your viewers. Keep up the amazing work that you do and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours and on your journey to be a better doctor. Hope you will upload a video on a day in the life of a family physician soon. Or perhaps another Good Doctor review. Thanks!

Thank you Dr. Mike! :) I have just recently started watching your videos, but even in this short period of time, I have learned from listening to your experiences and stories! Even though I've been working on self improvement and lifestyle changes, watching your videos encourages me to put in more effort and to better myself and those around me. It's truly refreshing to hear your medical journey and how you stay true to your values and yourself regardless of what the circumstances may be. You have a genuine heart and I am ever so grateful that I have the opportunity to hear your brilliant ideas! I hope you see this message and that it puts a smile on your face, because writing this put a smile on my face! (Even though we're probably already smiling!) Have a wonderful day!

My brother is a Doctor and I often met his co-residents friends. It was always intersting to listen to their stories. The hospital where they did their residency was close to a nice beach. They used yo go to the beach every chance they got. So I think that made their 2 years a lot more easy after a stressful week.
