Omg I’m so happy that you are able to walk with the help of the leg braces. The pure joy you exude is contagious. You really have a zest for life! Oh and Jay you’re a wonderful man and you guys are so perfect for each other.

I am not paralyzed but I do have sci due to discs compressing the spinal cord. I temporarily lost use of my left arm and hand. I still have some issues with it and also my right side has become bad as well. Getting an mri on Friday and Monday to check and see the progress of the spinal stenosis in my cervical vertebra fused at level c-6 c-6 and c-7. And also my lumbar region as it swells and becomes extremely painful. Probably going to have to have yet another surgery to try to prevent paralysis. I used to feel sorry for myself, but you know what? I learned to appreciate what I have and let go of the things that won’t get better or change.

I only recently stumbled upon your channel. Firstly, you are a delightful young woman. I heartily admire your attitude regarding not only yourself but others in chairs. My niece, 32 years 1 week, suffered a brain stem stroke. This was 3 years ago January 15th. She was completely “locked in” for a while but is perfectly aware now. She is paralyzed on half of her body left/right. The side she feels…she cannot move and the side that has some movement…she cannot feel. I sent her the link to your channel. She has a 13 year old daughter. Thank you for the courage and hope you project in every one of your videos. You are a blessing to so many. I broke my neck at C4 when I was 10 years old (73 now) and only through the grace of God am I not paralyzed from the neck down. According to the doctor who saw it first (I was 35 at the time) I should have died. Thank you again for everything you do and for your infectious smile. You are stunningly beautiful. Jay is my hero! Gif bless you. Diana Schutze

The molding process is very similar for a type of brace use called a splint. I live in the UK and have a spinal condition called scoliosis and a foot defect called a club foot. So I used to wear what is essentially the bottom half of your brace no metal it would be a plastic foot of sorts from just below the knee. It was designed to stop my foot turning so I could walk safer. I can still walk which still to this day baffles my doctors as they said I should be paralysed or at least wheelchair bound. Your health to enjoy your braces, I also used a brace for my back called a summit brace and it was like strpping on a parachute it was awesome but became difficult to use whilst I was in school. So I decided to just walk or use my wheelchair, which I love. Keep doing your doing spreading positive messages around disability and to anyone who feels ashamed of their chair or whatever equipment aids them, I say don't be take pride in what gets you moving do what you need to to make it feel a part of you. For example on one of my older chairs I was gifted a paint job on my spoke guards by my brother and best friend, the design was beautiful a tiger one rim and a dragon on the other, everyone who saw them loved them.

This is awesome. I also was injured in Afghanistan in 2010. I nearly lost my right leg. It was a steady decline from there. Just 4 days ago I got my leg brace. Mine is by Ottobock, based in Germany. It’s called a C-Brace. The difference in mine is that mine has an AI that connects with Bluetooth with my phone. It replaces my knee and quad muscles. And I have a normal stride. I walk straight, eyes up... free hands. Take a look. It maybe an option for you too. Finally... I hope the KAFO’s you have continue to bring joy and many many amazing experiences.

I use to have leg braces and crutches but embraced a wheelchair instead. I think it's more practical than walking with such cumbersome devices. Plus the effort used is immense.

Yep for therapeutic purposes braces are great but for long distances, wheelchair is far more comfortable.

KAFO like that in Quebec Canada cost no more than 1400 $ Canadian each . And for us in Quebec they are totally free with our universal healthcare system, once we have a prescription, we don’t need to be pre-approved , or demande an assurance, or file up long paperwork, we just have to bring the prescription to an orthosis center/maker , the same day he make the cast of the legs and about 2 weeks later the braces are ready to be fitted and delivered, we just have to sign as we received the brace .

"UFOs? " .. Ha ha.. Your braces look cool made in black.. We call these braces callipers in India.. I use half braces (AFO i think) and a walker to walk since i can lock my knees..my level of injury is really high though, T4-T5.. I practice to walk wearing them everyday for therapeutic purposes.. Cant think of walking wit them long distances though as its tiring. I have osteoporosis too.. Doctors have told putting weight helps with osteoporosis. So try walking more with it while at home and under supervision or standing itself helps a lot.. Thanks for talking on this matter.. Loved the video. Much love! :)

I got a custom AFO and KAFO. They are indicated for me for joint instability and drop foot. Best sort of pants to wear are the under $5 a pair leggings at Walmart. I love my braces because my weak ass joints can't fuck themselves up.

I would think the exercise you would get from the leg braces would be a big plus. Psychologically too. Always wondered if chistopher reeves shortened life had to do with lack of exercise. However his disability was awfully severe.

Reminds me of My brother who has cerebral palsy, and where's braces. I didn't used to notice that he would act sorta babyish, how people would say he did. I thought for years that they were just being mean. But it's true, if a child grows up, always hearing "awee" or, hey.. be nice. They are going to think they are special. As if people should make a special exception for how we speak to people who look physically disabled. I wouldn't want anyone being mean to me, or my child if they were disabled, but I wouldnt want others to constantly make sure peoples words are said with extra caution around me, if I were disabled. Because althought its well intended, being overly nice, is a form of child abuse. Not all that different from negatively verbally abusing a child. Its can build an unhealthy degree of empathy. Wich can lead on to depression and even suicide when people aren't empathetic, or sympathetic to you feelings. Say for instance my brother got dumped by his girlfriend, and no matter what he said, shes no longer interested. He could feel helpless, because his brain has grown accustomed to higher degrees of empathy. I'm not very good at explaining myself I text. But I believe the brain can become hardwired when taught from an early age.

@Nes_Ltr4 жыл бұрын
If she doesn't have enough muscle contractions back at the level of basic standing & walking muscles (quadriceps, hip flexor & extensor), that's not physically, scientifically & mathemetically possible to get rid of the chair. The leg braces are amazingly helpful in so many ways as she explained : they are already allowing a paralyzed person to stand & take steps safely but they are used temporarily, they can't be permanently replacing the full functions of the legs as in pre-injury. The nerve damage is still irreversible . There gotta be at least some graduation to AFO braces (below the knees) to start considering full time walking.
@JordanHaisley4 жыл бұрын
I also use a chair and KAFOs (leg braces). Walking with braces takes an incredible amount of work, so most people don’t use them for long distances.
