Hey! Great video! I'm not an International student but I came across your video when searching for info about the MSc in Software Development. I was wondering about your opinion on the course itself? Would you recommend it and do you think it prepares you for a career in technology? Thanks!!
@meredithellington934

It wasn't perfect but I have no regrets choosing to do it! The class size was large and the programme itself felt disorganised at times however I do think it definitely prepared me for a career in technology (as I currently have one now!) hope that helps

Ty for making this vid! I am seriously considering glasow (i am from southern california) for music post grad and have heard that apparently glasgow is a great city for musicians. This may sound random but i was wondering what the pollution situation is in glasgow? I’ve been following glasgow reddit and im absolutely horrified to see how people apparently just throw trash everywhere? I don’t mean this in a rude way! I just want as much information bc truthfully studying for a master’s in uofg is crazyyy expensive, so im trying to get as much info as possible. I feel like there’s loads of americans in glasgow and the general attitude towards americans there isn’t that great? Again thank you for making this video, i hope u are taking care of yourself during this strange time.

I honestly have never noticed the trash situation 😂I feel like it's probably the same as any other big city and when I'm walking around I never feel like I'm too far away from a bin. Tbf during lockdown the bins in and around the parks have been filling up a lot quicker than usual so they tend to overflow but I think that's just because these areas are much higher trafficked right now since there's literally nothing else to do. It's not usually like that. I haven't really met a TON of other Americans in Glasgow except for other students. It's a much less "touristy" city than Edinburgh so you see fewer of us. And I've never experienced any negative reactions to my being an American either haha. Not to say I haven't been roasted a few times but thats just a key facet of Scottish humor 😂

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you pay for the accommodation and other tuition fees? I will be attending the University of Edinburgh in September as a postgrad student and the only way I can pay for it is through student loans. Is there any vendor specifically you used? Sorry if that’s a personal question, I love your videos! They definitely inspired me to apply to international graduate schools in the first place!
@meredithellington934

I also used student loans! I went through the US government/FAFSA. It was a bit overwhelming so I just went with whatever they recommended!

Love your videos! I was wondering though, and I hope this question isn't too personal, but how did you afford living accommodations? Did you have a part-time job during the school year, save up a lot of money, or? I am hoping to one day go through this same process and everything is just so expensive so I was hoping to get an idea of what's ahead of me lol! Also, does the conversion course provide all the necessary knowledge for software development? does it affect employability and did it feel truly built for people who have no computer science background? Sorry for all the questions, you're just the best person to ask!! Cheers from Seattle!!
@meredithellington934
@meredithellington934 3 жыл бұрын
Student loans! You can still get them from the US government even if you're studying in a different country (yay?). And while the course wasn't perfect it did give me a sufficient foundation to start my job. I had accepted an offer before the end of the first term. And it's DEFINITELY built for people with no background (though I would recommend doing a couple Java codecademy courses beforehand. You'll just feel altogether less stressed) Hope that helped! 😁

Thank you so much!! Also, now that you've been working as a software developer for a while now, do you still love it? does the job bring a good work-life balance? I just know some software developers in the states, and especially in Seattle with all the tech companies, and their work-life balance isn't fabulous so I was wondering how it is in Scotland!!

Hii, this video was incredibly helpful as I’m planning to join this September!! However, I was confused about one thing - Should I start looking for accommodation right after I accept my offer? And so, when do I apply for the visa if my accommodation isn’t confirmed yet?
@meredithellington934
@meredithellington934 3 жыл бұрын
Ooh good questions! It depends on the kind of accommodation you're looking for! If it's university or private student accommodation, then start looking immediately because they can fill up fast (especially the second option). If you want to go the landlord route, I would suggest doing that a bit closer to when you leave. Some people even suggest waiting until you get to Glasgow and stay in an Airbnb until you can find a place so that you can tour places in person (though this option sounds terrifying to me hahaha). Also, you can still apply for your visa even if you don't have accommodation yet! It's definitely better to get that done as soon as possible :)

Do you have any recommendations for airlines for flying US to Glasgow? Or any airlines you avoid? Thanks, I love the video!
@meredithellington934
@meredithellington934 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth! I like flying Delta because they have a luggage tracker in their app. I've also had good experiences with American Airlines. I do not recommend Norwegian if you have more than a carry-on (They temporarily lost my luggage when I moved to glasgow, and they also don't do first bag free. Their tickets may be cheap but learn from my mistakes.) Side not: I don't often fly into Glasgow because its a smaller airport so there are fewer flight options. I've had the best luck with flying into Edinburgh and taking a bus directly from the airport to Glasgow city centre.

English people pay higher taxes higher tuition fees. Just so Scots don't have to. It's free. Unless you do actually pay.
