Thank you so much, Ryan. I am a beginner at light painting and have been successful with the few sessions I have had. I have used a few light sources but moving the camera slightly was a brand new technique that I learned from your video. I can't wait to try it out! Thank you so much for paying it forward! I believe it is essential to inspire and be inspired!

Question: On the second set with the rim lights and the pink gels; do you actually fire them with the flash or just the modeling lights were on in order to create the effect? Second question; how do you keep the modeling lights from melting the gels? Thanks and fantastic images!
@PaulcbuffInc3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe! Thanks for watching. Ryan used the modeling light for that second look which created that wavy pink effect. He used our color gel domes (www.paulcbuff.com/Flash-Units/LINK-Products/Color-Gel-Domes.html) that were designed for our newest flash unit , the LINK (www.paulcbuff.com/LINK-Flash-Unit.html). If you have any additional questions about our gear please contact customer service at 1-800-443-5542 (M-F from 9am - 4:30pm CT) or by email at info@paulcbuff.com. And be sure to give Ryan a follow over on Instagram (instagram.com/ryansimsphotography/)!

I use a remote trigger when I do light painting......nice video

That's a great tip for those times when there is no assistant around!
@davefryer10533 жыл бұрын
@@PaulcbuffInc I never have an assistant so it really is the only option for me especially when shooting out in the environment

Do you have your flash to trigger on second curtain or first.
@PaulcbuffInc3 жыл бұрын
Hey Fred! It's on first.

Question.... if u have no model is it possible to be your own model and light painter
@danbrowning24183 жыл бұрын
Is there much difference doing tthis with second curtain synch?
@PaulcbuffInc3 жыл бұрын
Great question! Since the model is still and the movement of the light painting tools is somewhat random, it wouldn't make a difference. Now for example, if you were shooting someone walking across the scene and then stopping, the second curtain sync would work better as the flash would catch them at the end of the movement therefore making the trail be behind them and their image crisp where in first curtain sync the trail would be in front on them and it would appear they were walking backwards. Hope that makes sense! We're not the techiest bunch in the marketing department but we try 😂

If you use an intervalometer, you could be the photographer and the light painter.

What settings did you use
@PaulcbuffInc3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Ryan's settings are explained throughout the video, and will vary based on your scenario. You can see the settings for his first look at the 12:28 mark, the second look can be seen at the 20:31 mark, and the final at the 22:30 mark. Hope that helps!!
