Here is my updated hair care routine & tips/advice for 2023, on how you can achieve knee-length hair like mine! I have 14 different tips on what hair care rules I have followed for years. This may not work for everyone depending on your genetics, and I'm NOT a hair professional or doctor or anything like that, but maybe you can get some little tips to help you!
P.s. This video was released early on my Patreon! You can see more early access, behind-the-scenes on my Japan study abroad trip, secret videos & pics over there for as low as $1 (:

I already said in the intro but again: Sorry this isn't ASMR like the rest of my channel, but because I'm currently studying abroad in Japan, I don't have my fancy recording to make a nice quality ASMR video. So instead I just decided to update my hair care tips and tricks from the last time I made a video on my main channel! But this is my last month in Japan, so next time I have a video on this channel, I should be back in America with my high quality equipment!
And sorry I keep looking off-screen to my notes every time before a clip cuts off. I am just a simple ooga booga amateur KZbinr who can't remember more than 2 sentences at a time :,)

I have very dark/black, curly/afro hair and my hair is almost to my knees. I only wash my hair every 2-3 weeks when my hair is down but keep it in 2 braids, and when I have mini twist, I wash 1x a month. Leaving your hair alone is the key. And for dry ends, I suggest just water and using grease to seal the water. Grease is an amazing sealant!

For those that need dry shampoo but don’t want the chemicals of mainstream dry shampoo, you can make your own from either arrowroot powder or cornstarch mixed with cocoa powder, cinnamon, or nutmeg, or a mixture of the three to match your hair color so that it doesn’t look white on your hair if your hair is dark

I tried the tips from the blowout professor, and before I did, I couldn't go two days before my hair got oily, then when I tried his tips, I was able to go 3 days before washing. Now, when my day 3 hair wash comes up, i have noticed that my hair doesn't really need washed. I am definitely going to try to work up to the 2 week hair wash, may or may not work but if I can get more than 3-4 days before washing my hair, I will be very happy!!!! I have been growing my hair out for over 20 years, and because of medication and many surgeries, I have lost so much hair, even have patchy thin spots under my hair! And, it's barely to my waist! It's so depressing 😢, but I have been trying to stay positive and pray and be patient, with 2 of those being very hard to do 😂!

Boar bristle brushes are also good for the hair. I use one in the morning to get lint or other stuff out of my hair, plus it distributes the oil already there to the rest of the hair. My cat likes to sleep around my head so yeah have to get it out somehow 😅 Also I protect my hair by braid or braids, mainly in a bun or wrapped around the head and covered with a scarf. I have seen results. It does help. My hair is below my tailbone. If anyone has questions about hair let me know! 😊❤

I watched until the end and loved it! Thanks for reminding me of the process of checking through the entire head of hair and snipping off any damaged ends- I used to do that all the time, and need to get back into that! I've been doing micro trims at the end of two braids lately. I'm going to try more low hairstyles instead of piling hair at the top of my head! After watching, I just put my hair in a low ponytail with a soft scrunchie, added a few drops of oil to my hands, ran that through the lengths, then braided it and tied it off with a smaller soft hair tie that matches my hair color 😊 I'm currently using a natural oil that's a mix of safflower oil, rosemary oil, and peppermint oil, and I really like it a lot! If you only use a few drops at a time, it's not greasy at all, absorbs entirely into the hair, and smells clean and fresh! The brand is "Olivia Care" and I picked it up at Winner's (I'm in Canada), the American equivalent to Winner's would be TJ Maxx I believe. Thanks again! Fawn 😊

@wachobsealey2
@wachobsealey2 2 күн бұрын
On another hair blog I learned the following: finger detangle first, broad toothed comb second then finer toothed comb last. Done twice daily and using protective hairstyles, such as braids and buns. No heat. Protect hair at night will cause less tangles. Scalp massage with argan or jojoba oil with essential oils the night before. I use baking soda water to shampoo when I finally clean my hair/scalp with ACV to rinse and close cuticles and air dry. No heat.

I only use a good shampoo and conditioner...that's it. Besides using olive oil on my ends, my hair is down to my tailbone. I don't use heat, nor hair dryer, no dry shampoo ( that will clog your follicles) and I brush it every night with a wooden brush, them I put in braids. My hair is 2 c wavy, also I use hair sticks sometimes, no elastics. Olive oil has done wonders.

Try using leave in conditioner after towel drying on mids and ends, hair loses moisture after it dries and use very fine oil just on ends once a day to keep them smooth and hydrated.

I DID watch it all the way through to the end! I’m always on the lookout for long hair growth tips! I had gastric bypass surgery and lost at least 1/2 my hair which was very difficult because it’s always been very baby fine so it has never looked like I had much hair any way. But in 2017, my hair got down to my waist because I wanted to go as Lara Croft for a work skit we were doing and I just let it grow. You’re right! If you just “set it and forget it” it will get there. And it was faster than I thought it would be. But now my hair is falling out again after another (different) surgery and I’m beginning to panic again! 😢 But I’m starting to use rosemary and mint oils and water, and it’s helping. I’ve started making my own hair oil and I usually wash only once a week with an intense scalp oil for about 4 hrs before my shampoo with the rosemary water in between washes. It’s getting less and less oily over time! Thank you for your video! It was very comprehensive and enjoyable!

I watched all the way to the end!! Excellent video and excellent advice for all hair types! I’m African American with Type 4 Afro hair. I do have a relaxer but get no more than 3 per year and I’m now trying for just twice per year! This advice is great for all hair types and textures and whether chemically treated or now! Mine is between my bra strap and waist! I only use heat when I do a relaxer…thus, 3 times per year!! I find that when I wear wigs my hair grows very fast!! I think because it’s protected and not touched or messed with! There’s a lot of us long hair girls wearing wigs out here for this reason! Gives hair a break and grows super fast!! Thank you for this awesome video!!

@@GadielVaStar I first went natural back in ‘98 and folks thought I had lost my mind! I chopped my hair down to a TWA. Since that time…..wow, 26 years ago, I’ve grown it out long and natural, chopped, relaxed, texlaxed, etc. I’ve done it all and my hair has been healthy and long both ways. I know everyone is getting relaxers now but I’ve never been one to follow the crowd. I’ve been on KZbin loving the natural hair videos and reminiscing for my natural hair! I’m now 23 weeks post relaxer and going to keep on going and transition! I’ll be trimming about a half inch per month for a long time! I’ve never had the patience for this do this will be fomenting new and fun!!🤩 The key is even with a relaxer, never forcing our hair on a regular or even semi regular basis to do something it’s not meant to do! All that heat styling and tight super long braids just messes people’s hair and/or scalps up!! Just love it and lovingly care for it gently and it will grow in any state!! Hope this is helpful!

I soooooo agree with you that “your scalp will produce the best oil for your hair”! I call sebum “Mother Nature’s hair oil”, so I do sebum distribution da with a Mason Pierson day 3 to wash day, which is every 7-10 days. It helps clean the scalp and brings the sebum down to the mids-ends, and stimulates the scalp. 😊

I had beautiful long hair for many years. I did exactly what this young lady did. Personally I felt what's the point of having long hair if I'm forever tying it up and getting constant headaches from the heaviness. So I decided to shave the whole lot off and donate it to a children's cancer foundation. I've had short hair ever scince and still love it. I felt so liberated lol. I don't miss my long hair but it's still lovely to see on others ☺️🎉

But this is my last month in Japan, so next time I have a video on this channel, I should be back in America with my high quality equipment! And sorry I keep looking off-screen to my notes every time before a clip cuts off. I am just a simple ooga booga amateur KZbinr who can't remember more than 2 sentences at a time :) 00:00 Background Info 01:37 Important Disclaimer! 02:22 1 Stop Washing your Hair 06:01 2 Use Dry Shampoo 07:33 3 Stop Using Hair Products 09:07 4 Be Lazy, Stop Doing so Much 11:14 5 Forget about It - Be Patient 13:03 5.5 Hair Social Media is Lying to You 12:36 6 Stop Brushing your Hair 15:15 What about the knots tho? 16:10 7 Take Biotin Supplements 17:24 8 Use a Flexible, Bendy Hairbrush 18:06 9 Use More Oils (not fancy hair products) 19:18 10 Soak your Hair in Oil on Washing Day 20:22 11 Use More Kitchen Ingredients on Your Hair 21:20 12 Avoid Dieting 22:45 13 Stop Trimming all your Ends 22:23 Overview: The Most Important Info

Thank you so much for this video! :3 Such great tips, but I think there must not be a lot of people out there cursed by dandruff because so many people can get by washing their hair not often. I have the most horrible dandruff that doesn't respond to ANYTHING. It doesn't respond to any dandruff shampoo and I've tried all the brands except the prescription ones (because I haven't seen the doctor for this). It doesn't respond to tea tree oil, henna, oiling or any of the other home remedies people recommend. No matter what I do by the second day after washing my hair it's full of dandruff again. So I have to wash my hair every other day to get rid of the dandruff! Sigh. If it weren't for the dandruff I can go a week without washing it, I know that because until I discovered I had dandruff I used to only wash it once a week and the hair itself was thriving. Because you know, you don't see the flakes and no one will tell you about them until one day by chance you look at the top of your head or the back of your head in the mirror and then you see them, tangled in the hair........

My grandmother's hair was dragging a foot on the ground when she married. After 15 kids it was at knee length when she died. One of the things I learned in beauty school was how to singe the hair. You need help to do it, but is very effective. Take very small amounts of hair and twist it extremely tight. Run your fingers up the twist and any split ends will pop out of the twist. Then with a lighter quickly run a flame along the shaft. It will only burn the split ends because there is no oxygen in the twist. This leaves the ends of the hair smooth and sealed. You will also find split ends less often. When twisting only twist the length you can twist very tight, ie a foot. Then work your way along the section of hair. Much more effective than your scissor method.

I agree with all techniques I will also add stop using conditioners with silicones and replace shampoo with something more natural like apple cider vinegar or ghassoul clay. Dry shampoo store bought isn't great other as it contains silicone get corn starch or ground fenugreek or amla powder, or if you dark mix half and half corn starch with Coco powder put it in icing sugar shaker and vuala you have abandoned of dry shampoo at your finger tips. From kitchen ingredients please avoid using baking soda too often it's drying too much.

referencing the hairwashing: I've made the experience, that it is easier to expand the time between washes if your hair is long. The oils will be absorbed by the hairlengths and you can help the process with a brush with boar bristles.

I wish I could only wash my hair once every 1-2 weeks but I don't think everyone can, I have Seborrheic dermatitis and I feel like it would go crazy. My hair has always grown really fast and long and thick. I've been thinking about growing it as long as I can but I've heard it can cause hair loss on your hairline over time from the weight of it. Have you experienced that

Hello- Sorry to bother you again, but i forgot to ask you. When you were growing your hair out long did you always trim it yourself or have it done in a salon? Also how much did/do you take off when you do trim it? Thanks!
@ZeldasLongHair
@ZeldasLongHair Жыл бұрын
I talk more about that on my old hair care video on my main channel: Zeldafeb ! And more on my experience with hair salons throughout vids on this channel. I now only do the search-and-destroy method as noted in this video, but before I knew about that method, I would just go by visuals in general chunks of half an inch, an inch, two inches. Usually never more than two inches back then!

Hello These are such good tips! So when you oil your hair, do you only do it on dry hair? I know you said you use jojoba, argan and grapeseed, do you mix them together or use them separately? How often during your 2 weeks in between washing do you use these oils? And how often do you trim? Thank you!
@ZeldasLongHair
@ZeldasLongHair Жыл бұрын
Thank you!!(: Yes I only oil on dry hair. When trying to oil wet hair, the hair shaft is already soaked with water, and often won't have room to soak any oil. So I do dry hair. You can mix the oils or do it individually, it really doesn't make a difference! I just do individually personally so I can keep all of my oil bottles separate. I experiment with many different frequencies of applying the oil and I recommended you also experiment to find what's best for your hair. I often go by feel nowadays - whenever my ends feel dry or damaged. Sometimes it's once a week. Sometimes when the weather is especially dry, it's every other day. Nowadays when I attend a class outside in the dirt, I sometimes don't use oil at all until wash day to avoid dirt sticking. So yea it can be many different times a week or month. You don't want to overdo it because your hair will get too moist and prone to damage and tangling when moist. Trimming is similar: whenever I notice I need a trim, I do it. You don't need to overthink or overcommit to a specific schedule or anything! For me, I trim my hair on average once a month, but it's really just whenever I remember/notice again. Same with oiling!

My hair is below my ears at the sides(the pieces above my ears) but it reaches to my waist at the back. It’ll take two years for it to reach to my thighs at the back, and it’ll take five years for the side pieces for it to reach my thighs. Guess I’ll have to be patient!

Hmm I think the real problem is the lack of scalp focused shampoos. Like its still your skin..and people be usikg harsh shampoos that is overly stripping and has no benefit apart from making sure its clean. Moisturizing shampoos are designed for the hair, not ehat the scalp needs for Moisturizing. Fix the shampoos to be scalp focused (especially since shampoo is really more to clean your scalp than your hair), then the problem with scalp pil production may lessen. Coz you should still keep your scalp clean or some could get worse scalp problems and infections.

What about a natural conditioner? I have been doing no-poo for years now and only need to 'wash' my hair every 2-4 weeks, and only use rhassoul clay. But, i do condition my hair every day, usually mid-lengths but sometimes the whole hair and scalp too. Is this causing product buildup?
