This is the year basil is King in our N. E. garden. Somehow we have 15 plants of it, plus an indoor one from a grocery store start, and a volunteer, in a flower pot. All are thick, bushy, and healthy. We are giving it away to everyone we see!

I get basil from pho restaurants thanks to their basil clippings for adding into pho. For about a whole year and more, basil was growing. And after two or three years the trunk of a single plant was like 2 inches thick and still growing. We removed them eventually, the massive root system was a pain in the ass to remove. But yes we had free basil which is awesome.

Hi John - you have helped me in my garden when I started watching your videos must be at least 3 or 4 years ago and your one of my favourites. I do have to say that 4 years ago I bought 1 pack of basil seeds - started them indoors and they have given me seeds every year - no need to buy the plants. But I do like watching you go to these different place because it gives me a chance to see what it looks like down in the states where you live - I’m in Calgary Alberta. Take care.

Hello John. It is me William again. I am very sorry that I haven't been on here for sometime. I have always enjoyed all your videos from all your channels. All your videos are always exciting and very informative full of rich valuable content. Your videos have always been some of the best educational tours and topics here on KZbin. Hopefully one of these years in the near future I will get the chance to apply what I have learned in gardening from you. I aready eat better and juice often for good health and detox. This is in thanks to you and a few others like minded health-conscious video makers teaching wise caring healthy education. I am almost completely raw vegan now except I still like to cook veggie burgers and a small amounts of other partially cooked vegan meals. I am striving on the right track to be fully raw vegan hopefully within the next year or two. Hopefully also someday I will get the chance to thank you personally at a seminar somewhere or my own future garden tour on one of your shows.

I bought a bunch of Basil from Trader Joe's that's already packaged, with the roots cut off, and I cut off the tops, about 3 inches long, and then put them in water and they all have grown roots! Once they get a bit longer I'll plant them in containers. I'm also growing lots of Basil from seeds. Sweet Basil, Genovese, Purple, Thai, African Blue, Large Leaf and Lettuce Leaf. The Lettuce Leaf Basil Leaves grow to be as Big as your Hand!

Great video, thanks. Regarding various sized bulb planters, I'm pretty sure you could make one using a tin can, like a coffee tin for example.Cut the bottom out and use tin snips to give it a jaggered edge and for a simple handle, attaching a U-shaped bracket should work. To make a spring-loaded bulb planter, cut down one side and reshape it so it overlaps a little and for the handle, use a metal spring-loaded toilet roll holder and 2 metal strips attached to the side of the can, perhaps with nut and bolt or a couple of rivets on each side or even soldered. I am a fan of DIY and I love making my own tools. :)

My biggest tip is to always look at the way your condo or apartment or houses facing so you can think about what you will be able to grow. I live under the confines of a homeowner's association and so growing crops is pretty much a no no. Plus, all my private land is to the north and shaded. My side yard is filled with poison ivy. It's beautiful, but not practical for crops. So really think this over when you pick a place.

Rae Boyd ......Maybe you could try growing some from seeds in spring, it's usually pretty easy as long as you have enough sun, and there are many different varieties, I get a mixed packet from an Italian seed company, I love the lemon basil and the black basil, they're all good for different dishes and the plants look and smell pretty good as well, can't remember the name at the moment, starts with an F I think, they have many good and unusual veg seeds and their seeds are very good value because there are loads of seeds in the packets. Franchi seeds is the name of the company I think.
