You never cease to amaze me. Love the walk-thru in your garden. It's beautiful, Wendi! BTW...I know how you feel about your luffas being taken, you sent me seeds from your very long luffas a few years ago. The whole envelope of seeds disappeared, never even had a chance to grow them. I was greatly bummed! Back to growing the normal size luffas. God Bless you always, Wendi...you have such a sweet spirit!

Your garden is amazing! So much in a small space. I feel like a slacker for having bare spaces... Also, quick ,low-fi solution to rodents : Cats! Though you may wind up with a cat problem... Hi Wendi! For a pretty plant as in foliage / flower / fruit contrast, consider a purple jigsaw pepper. Is the variety of carrot a short as in stubby variety or could your soil use a bit of sand or peat to loosen the soil for easier root development? As for strength you have succeeded with assembling your trellis so you would have a bunch of strength physically, in your Heart and in your Mind! :-) The ladder effect with your hanging herb patch and drip system is a great addition to your spread. Here this is the month of ripening fruits a bit early. Time to start the salsa season. Happy Gardening! -Bob...

Idk, if you grow something and it goes outside your yard and people take it I don't call it stealing. People assume that it's outside your fence so it's free to pick. Unfortunately, you wanted those luffa. We have a couple of fruit trees that have spread over the fence and people regularly take fruit. If we want the fruit we have to get to it before people pick it. As long as they don't come onto the property it's ok. Anything outside is free game. If they come in your yard and take stuff, that's stealing. Just my opinion.
@wendiland
@wendiland 3 жыл бұрын
You’re technically correct. My luffa was growing past the private space, but still it was in the front yard, not over the wall to public space. Fruits hanging over the wall is definitely free for grabs. To me it’s more of moral issue - it’s not kind to take from someone who only has limited supply.

Our carrots used to grow short and double as we had such tough clay (compost helped) or if have a short stocky variety. Rats- can use netting or saw on YT someone used peppermint essential oil in his house and rats left (strong smelling stuff). We have coons, owls, (they can eat rats)m hawks, lizards, possums.... Also saw cats and dogs dont like citrus, so used peels and seeds on front yard , worked on the dogs. Nice garden, want to grow more edible, medicinal and native plants.
@wendiland
@wendiland 3 жыл бұрын
It’s nice potting soil in the containers, but I’m wondering if cucumber roots are condensing the soil so carrots couldn’t grow deep enough...or they are stubby kind, I lost the label! Lol! Rodents just go around the peppermint oil..You got owls, that’s pretty cool!!
@1aliveandwell
@1aliveandwell 3 жыл бұрын
@@wendiland , have you set up a camera for find the rats?(motion sensor light or ). Someone in neighborhood , made an owl nest box and also there are places for hawks to roost for sighting food. What would deter (bad smell or)to a rat. 1 YT used ammonia rags, which I cant stand (and can be flammable near gas appliances like water heater). Someone said they bought coyote urine to put at perimeter of yard. Wonder if our own would work. Or just plan to loose some produce. My old luffa seeds used to grow are not sprouts (maybe need more water, have heat in So cal). Your videographer does good work!

Instant kill is the humane way to get rid of your rodent issue. Use your typical pedal trap but modified with stronger spring using a bolt and two screws. The best bait for me is caramel popcorn. It sticks to the trigger snugly and the sugar aroma lasts a long time unlike peanut butter that dries up easily.
