One of my favourite climbing plants, Stauntonia coriacea (syn. Holboellia coriacea) really is a climber that is a great choice for the garden: an evergreen and very vigorous climbing plant that thrives in shady and moist soil, bearing small pale greenish to cream to purplish flowers with a very nice fragrance, almost citrus like, filling the air around the plant with not a heady or intense perfume, but a very pleasant and gentle scent. Sorry for the sneeze almost at the end of the video.

Hi, I accidentally came across this plant in Holker Hall Gardens and fell in love purely for the fragrance. I have since brought one from crug farm, not in the best of condition but the lady said their plant is 30 years old and hasn't flowers at all. That's really worried me, can you please advise on soil type and how to encourage mine to flower. Thank you soo kuch for your help. I absolutely love your fragrant plants, I wish you were my neighbour lol.

I am very pleased you love my channel, thank you!!! for Stauntonia coriacea, I really don't do much at all to grow it, the main thing is that this plant need moist soil and bright shade: I have some other Holboellia and Stauntonia in my allotment, in full sun, and found that their leaves get scorched very easily in summer, also they are very sensitive to drought. My Stauntonia coriacea is in the shadiest part of my garden, receiving direct sunlight only in the very early hours of the morning, and loves the location. It got really huge and blooms every year with a wonderful fragrance. It is strange that their plant in 30 years didn't flower at all, Crug Farm is a really good nursery, I got wonderful plants from them. The only problem I had with my Stauntonia is that I found it impossible to propagate: all my pollination attempts failed (I have only one blooming and maybe the plant can't be self-pollinated) and all the cuttings I took when I prune the plant, never developed any roots.

Hi, thank you soo much for getting back to me. I love your channel, your garden and your love for fragrant flowers. Most of my plants in my garden have been inspirations from your video. If you know of any fragrant plants that I need to know of I will be very grateful. Thank you very much xx

Hi, Thanks for the video / review. What time of year did you plant it and did you need a trellis or wire support?

Hello Sandy, I planted this plant in May and yes, this plant need trellies or wires to support. It is great for shady areas of the garden, and will bloom with gorgeously scented flowers in spring

Hello Navas, this plant is hardy in USDA zones 8-11 so yes it is hardy in most of the UK, in my garden it survived the famous "Beast from the East" , the cold spell hitting the UK in March 2018, and in that event in my garden there were temperatures down to minus 8 degrees Celsius for about week

Does it highly scented flower..?
@plantreviewsuk1204
@plantreviewsuk1204 4 жыл бұрын
yes , once established, the plant is very floriferous and considering the amount of flowers produces, the fragrance spreads around the garden. I have this plant near the garden door, and when I open it, I can smell the beautiful citrus scent of its blooms, that also have some sweet notes

@@moumitaskitchenandgardenin3777 you're very welcome, it is a really wonderful climbing plant, unfortunately is not very easy to find: I found it only once in a plant nursery and luckily I decided to buy it immediately: one of the best purchases I've done for my garden, as it is evergreen, fragrant and very easy to grow.

@@plantreviewsuk1204 that is very funny and a bit Kafkaesk: how can I write what I did not hear? Which is a lot of the video. I think I will wait untill next spring. Gracie per tutto (??, tutti?). Ciao!

sorry for the confusion, I meant if you wanted to know any details about this plant and its cultivation, that you could not hear... however, to put it very briefly, this plant needs constant moisture, and light shade or partial sun. It can grow very vigorously and can overtake surrounding plants, however the fragrance is amazing and it is one of my absolute favourite plants in the garden, so much that I recently bought other related species with different scents. Hopefully I will make a video on all of them next year, if they do bloom in the same period
