Wonderful information! Thank you for including growth rates, which is often overlooked and usually isn't even included on plant tags. It's very tempting to buy tiny plants online that local nurseries don't have, but some plants take years and years to put on any significant growth. I made this mistake. Also, I've learned the hard way that it's important to pay attention to your soil type and the soil needs of each plant, not just zone. Thank you again for your informative content!

I’d add peegee hydrangea. Planted one (strawberries and cream) and within a couple years it grew significantly, adding to privacy. Rose of Sharon grows relatively fast with lovely late summer hibiscus like blooms…though not as fast as the peegee. I’m in zone 6b. I also planted a white pine with these. They grow quickly, also providing good privacy within a few years. They need more room as they can spread out 30’ (15’ from centre)

I love podocarpus gracilior. The foliage is so delicate looking and it grows at a good rate, tall and wide. I am in a zone 10a, 9b.

I got a row of skip laurels planted along my fence since it's good for areas that don't get a lot of sun. Arborvitae requires full sun.

This was far better than the previous 2 videos I watched on the same topic. I still would have liked to see max height added to more of them, and more about trimming vs. untrimmed, and litter (like do they leave cones, fruit or many leaves on the ground). I definitely appreciated the vines and grasses included. Going to check out the other video now. Oh, and more pictures of the choices where they were actually planted in a way to use for fence cover or privacy.

We have a 4 sided trench around our running bamboo. It must be tended like a toddler when actively growing in June and July. You cannot skip a single day of cutting new growth in June or it may escape into the neighbors yard. We’ve been able to keep it tame for over 10 years.

Hi! Love your tenacity and exacting tips! I am trying to decide on what to put on my corners of foundation. I like blue juniper for the color (I have a green, blue front door), yet I really like the loose look of the dwarf hinoki cypress. I am trying to go for loose airy grasses, and a modern look. No stiff looking yews that look as if they’ll eat the house. 😬 I have a 1960’s ranch so I definitely want to keep things simple. Hope you’re having fun with your Chanel, Eve!❤

the way literally just starting two days ago i've been looking for a tree/shrub to act as a windbreak since colorado blue spruces literally hate being alive here, far too humid and temperature variant apparently, so it's lost most all it's lower foliage. ... the severe droughts and it being ontop of a sandy hill has not helped that at all lol. been trying to find something very cold hardy (6a) for such an exposed position as a windbreak, but also is extremely drought hardy in a very humid climate. i'll be looking into some of the ones you mentioned tbh.

always check the the root systems before planting too. Magnolia grows to be huge plants and can damage the sewer system of your house

I need help! I have an ugly property line tree garden that will be gone. I have berry Poppins that I like, I was planning some nova zemblas behind those, and then I'm unsure of what else I want. We definitely want the Dr Seuss looking evergreens. But we would also like fast growing plants for privacy. I don't want a bunch of arborvitae though. So I'm conflicted. Thoughts?

Great and informative video! Do you have any suggestions/solutions for plants to use as a hedge to block cigarette smoke from neighbors? My neighbors smoke a lot, and the smoke drifts towards my backyard, and it's horrible.

I’m wondering if you could utilize some kind of solar powered fan that would direct the air back to your neighbors yard - so they can enjoy their own smoke. I think any plant would end up allowing the air through unless it was incredibly dense like those walls of bushes you see sometimes that form a hedgerow.

How tall will it grow. Neighbor put on a deck that over looks my whole yard and decks. I need 15 to 20 ft. High but I only have narrow raised bed and my deck is right next to the deck. West side of my home the area gets very hot in the summer.

Bamboo can be a mess and Delaware it is outlawed, even the clumping form of bamboo. some of it is actually very slow growing if it doesn’t have the right area

You've convinced me to replace my Thuja oxidentalis (that I'm allergic to) with Japanese Temple Bamboo, with very stout root barrier. It'll grow fast to screen my condo from the parking lot and second story windows next door, and will be very low maintenance. Many thanks!

Do not plant magnolias unless you are ready to be outside raking leaves every other day. Not a tree for lazy gardeners or lazy homeowners. I’m not saying lazy in a negative way but beware of the constant maintenance. My neighbor is outside all four seasons with the tree he inherited when he purchased the home and he hates it. Also do not plant bamboo without lots of research and i would keep them in containers not planted in ground because they are invasive especially in the south.
