I just tried toddler socks on my 60 cyl using every other needle and they turned out fabulous after they were washed. I posted on May 17th at 5:37 on CSM Knitters 2.0. I thought too I'd have to do them flat but no. Apparently, even for a baby, you just do fewer rows. She got those socks yesterday and loves them. They fit perfectly. She's fussy but she left them on. :)

How cute! I'll have to try it! This is a 4 month old so we're talking tiny feet I wonder if it's still the same

I'm keen to make children's sock on my vintage CSM but I only have 60 and 72 needle cylinders. I'm keen to know more about how you did it Rita?

This was really helpful... spoken as a novice knitter but full time geek. I recently built a 3d printed circular knitting machine and this was awesome for helping me figure out what to do now that I've reached the point of actually using it. I definitely need to try it for smaller footed people before I do it for our freaky huge feets : D One question that I haven't found an answer to yet - is there a big difference between using a (making this numbers up) 80 needle spindle with only 40 needles in place vs a 40 needle spindle with all 40 in place? I can't seem to find a solid answer on how important the spindle size vs number of needles in the spindle is. Perhaps it will be evident once I get more into it.

This was a great video! I have not cranked out socks since 2015. Gosh, you should have seen and heard me! How could I forget when I used to be SO good?! Lol I love the way you made your sock and...yes, it is always a guessing game when sizing them. I’ll be using 2 strands of R&M merino to make boot socks for my son. If the first pair fits, I’ll make more! Thank you for making this video and it was not boring at all!

Is the CSM sock calculator not accurate?🤔

I didn't try it a ton, but no, I did not find it to be as accurate as I needed. Too many variables.

I notice you're not saying anything about the height of the sock. How do you decide that? Toe up socks would make it easy I suppose. You could do the first sock, foot length according to the guess and then height until 'this must be enough' or half the yarn is gone (measure what's left on your scale: bobbin and yarn minus bobbin weight)

I guess I've just made enough socks that I know about how many leg rows to do for the length I want. A winter sock I do 50-60 leg + cuff rows, a summer sock I do 30-50 rows. My typical (for me) summer ribbed length is 35 leg rows w/ no cuff. Since my niece and her hubby are in hot summer territory I opted for mid length.
