We've found a non petroleum Vaseline type of jelly in the baby aisle of the drug store. It's a castor oil base. Also I noticed that if I drank apple cider vinegar or baking soda in my water, and my baby drank my breast milk, their eczema symptoms seemed milder.

I watched your video, my children all grown, I am an Esthetician. Eczema and Rosacea are both disorders of the skin's dermal barrier. (Basically, the protective barrier of the skin is comprised). Vaseline works because it acts like a barrier and prevents water loss from your baby skin ( water loss and immune response are what causes these dry patches) the bad part is it doesn't allow for moisture to come in to his skin. If you were to ever stop using Vaseline your baby skin would likely dry up so bad the eczema with probably be worse than ever. If you ever choose to wean your baby off of the Vaseline consider using shea butter it works the same way to protect the skin but with more vitamins and nutrients to actually heal the baby skin. Also be careful with the baking soda bath, these are good because the alkalinity of baking soda is allowing the water to really hydrate your baby skin, but it is unnatural pH. You have to return your baby skin back to its natural pH by using something that's acidic like aloe vera gel after the bath. Just sharing a few tips because long term use of Vaseline and baking soda can ruin your baby's skin in the long term. I'm glad your baby has gotten some relief and you are less stressed about this situation. Good luck, but be careful to not just stop suddenly using the Vaseline.

I went to a ped dermatologist for by girl’s scalp today and was prescribed the same cream and regimen! So am happy I came across your video. Did you use a baby shampoo or dandruff shampoo and then the cream? The dr said to first try regular baby shampoo nightly and switch to a Selsum blue if needed. ❤️

Still to this day we don’t use any shampoo. Our normal pediatric doctor recommended a dandruff shampoo but he had a HORRIBLE reaction to it and it made it even worse. We just use the baking soda in his bath water - that’s it. 😊

Lovely baby! Informative video.... thank you! How come nobody talks about diet and eczema? This is especially if baby is nursing as well as eating solids? Diet aggravates eczema! Nightshades are particularly reactive. Many people look to the anti inflammation diet, eliminating the offending foods. While the sacrifice is weighty, the results are deeper than only treating the eczema topically.

Eczema runs in my family on my mother's side and I wasn't at all surprised when my little babs was born with it. She was covered from head to toe and I tried all of the creams my doctor prescribed and tried a few from amazon which helped a little. I read that calendula was fantastic for this and read a lot of great reviews for california baby but couldn't get a hold of it as I am in the UK. I plumped for one by mama nature for tiny troubles and this cream is fantastic. Smells delicious and looks good enough to eat! I generously applied it and at first her skin turned angry but after a few days it calmed down (I have since learned this is a 'healing crisis'). She is now eczema free! Quite a lot of my family have also bought this rescue cream and are over the moon. My cousin in Arkansas even bought it and she says now she is feeling as fine as a frogs hair lol

When my son was born he started developing cradle cap and his hair started falling out. I tried everything, doctor suggested dandruff adult shampoo and creams, nothing worked. Until I was talking to my coworker about it and she said "oh my son had that' I healed it with vaseline" so I went home tried it 7 days later completely healed. My baby's hair started growing back. And the cradle cap never came back. So the vaseline was only temporary. Today he is 8 years old and his scalp and hair are looking great. 😊

Triamcinolone totally works. I used it 40 yrs ago on my daughter who developed eczema on her scalp and thick patches on her ankles. In less than a week it was totally gone. Mine was in a cream form though at the time and I remember I had to put it in the palm of my hand about a dimes worth and add water to thin it and pat it on the areas.

My routine: Bleach baths every night. Within 3 MINUTES of getting out of the bleach bath I use EpiCeram lotion. In the morning I shower, then I quickly spray my skin down with Hypochlorous Acid. SkinSmart specifically makes a baby and toddler one and it’s the absolute safest treatment their is. After that I immediately put on Eucerin Eczema cream. Halfway through the day I cleanse my skin again with Hypochlorous acid and apply more EpiCeram. Some nights I do have to do wet wrappings on my arms and legs. When I wet wrap, my dermatologist has me cover my skin with a mixture of EpiCeram and Tamanu oil. In my opinion this is the best routine and I haven’t seen it not work for any of my doc’s patients.

I am so happy to have found this video and comments. It does feel isolating and I have suffered as bad as my son. He is 15 months and he has a protein allergy and eczema. We didn't know he had this milk protein allergy and it wrecked him/us (cause I was breastfeeding). His hair fell out, he had infected, crusting skin which smelled so bad. Once I stopped eating dairy (I wanted to continue breastfeeding) and we were using a steroid, antibiotic, and vaseline, his skin got so much better. He pretty much healed up, hair grew, skin cleared. But now he is having flare ups again (especially cause he is teething) and its getting bad again. We've used so many products and after a few days his skin just goes back to being super dry. We are visiting the derma next week cause we need help.

I know this is an old video, but I hope you see my comment. I'm a FTM and my daughter is 5 months old. She has eczema and I quite literally feel like I have tried everything! Her scalp and behind her ears seem to cause her the most trouble, but maybe it is just because those are the areas she can get to easily. She rubs these areas raw when she has mittens on (which is practically all the time even though I don't think that's ideal because I feel like she should be able to explore with her hands, and she hates wearing them and always takes them off) and scratches herself when she isn't wearing the mittens. She was prescribed a prescription dandruff shampoo (twice per week, doesn't seem to be doing anything) and the same ointment as your son but it comes in a tube (the jar seems so much more practical). I have blue-label vaseline brand vaseline, and the purple desitin as well as baking soda for the baths. My questions are: did you put the ointment all over his scalp or just the extremely inflamed areas? Do you put vaseline on his entire scalp daily (she was born with hair but really doesn't have any now due to the cradle cap, dandruff and eczema, but it is trying to grow back in but I also don't care if her hair is greasy if this gives her some relief)? And the desitin, does it go in all of his crevices after bath with the ointment on top of it in the bad areas, or is the desitin more for maintenance and something I should just do after using the prescription ointment to clear the red flares? I know these questions seem all over the place but I just want my sweet girl to have some relief and I don't know what else to try!

@smg.6685

@@TheSilverLining80 So my LO did get a lot better and her hair is growing in nicely now. She does still have flares from time to time, but they have not been nearly as bad as they were when I wrote my desperate comment above. I did a combination of things based on this video and some research I did on my own. I'll detail it here. Hopefully it will help you (if you are asking for help) or some other parent/grandparent/guardian desperate for their loved one to get some relief. For two weeks, I did nightly baths for her (lukewarm water, no more than 10 minutes in length) that contained 2 Tbsp colloidal oatmeal (I used the aveeno packets for adults since it has the same ingredients as the baby version but is less expensive. Each packet was good for at least 2 but possibly 3 bath sessions), 1 Tbsp baking soda, and 1 Tbsp olive oil. I let her soak in that for no more than 10 minutes and used a cup to pour the mixture over the areas of her body not submerged in the tub. I rinsed her off with lukewarm water, patted dry, then put the ointment in the troublesome areas and covered her whole body with the blue label vaseline afterwards. Her pediatrician prescribed a scalp oil (flucinolone acetonide) that I used twice per day for her scalp, but prior to that being prescribed I used vaseline. I did wash her hair every night with cerave baby wash and once per week I gave her a bath (and washed her hair) with the wash and did not do the oatmeal bath mixture. I did not use desitin, but instead used this stuff called Flanders Buttocks Ointment. I purchase it from Amazon. I only used it in the diaper area because it does cause some staining, but it is marketed as being helpful for all rash types. After two weeks of this, she was doing so much better, so I stopped using the prescription ointment daily and just started doing the baking soda baths as described in the video and coating her with vaseline afterwards. After that initial 2 weeks of using vaseline in the mornings and night, I stopped using vaseline in the mornings because I work outside the home and coating her in vaseline in the mornings was just too messy. Instead, Iuse the vaseline on her face and we just use the cerave moisturizing cream (not the baby one, just regular) on the rest of her body in the mornings and vaseline at night. After a month of doing these things, I started giving her water baths only as she likes playing in the tub and her damp skin soaks in the vaseline better. These days, we do a bath with baby wash and a hair washing 1-2 times per week and just do a wipe down with a wet rag the other nights (and still moisturize). However, I live in a warm climate and the warm temperatures do seem to be causing a flare. We did a baking soda bath last night and I am going to try to start doing those nightly again. As I mentioned earlier, she does still have flares, but never as bad as before. I just try to minimize triggers when possible: keeping her cool, washing my clothes and hers in tide free and gentle, I don't wear perfume and try to limit her exposure to those who do, etc. It's been a difficult journey, but I hope she grows out of it. I had eczema as a child and have grown out of it, so I hope she will too. I hope this helps anyone who reads it. If you or anyone have questions, I'm happy to reply.

lyn john hi, so I did try it and it wasn’t really working out. She was still super itchy. I used her prescription steroid cream for one day until eczema was better and no longer red. For the last 3 days I’ve been using sweet almond oil to moisturize her whole body I apply it 3 times a day along with Satya Organic Eczema relief balm. It’s awesome and seems to be working her skin is still no longer red. It’s good to first clear up the eczema flare up and from then to prevent eczema to begin with because it’s easier to control it that way. That’s why I’ve been moisturizing her a few times a day so that her body doesn’t get dry to begin with! And I don’t layer her with clothing sometimes she will be with just a diaper on when it’s warmer so that she’s not sweating. :)

For the longest time he was on hydrocortisone through the doctors (a stronger one) and it would go away but still come back, he will be completely clear and just digs it right back open. We have since been on betamethasone and it works but also he always scratches it back open. My 6yr old son had eczema for a little bit and cradle cap and I was able to cure that but now with my newborn I tried to use the same things I used with his brother and he did not work. I even tried coconut oil and Shea butter 100% and that did not work so now I feel confident in what you have used. Thick Vaseline is amazing for winter and dry skin. I was told don’t use Vaseline because it’s too thick on the skin and may block moisture but now I’m going to try it. I just gave him a bath with oatmeal and I wish I had baking soda but I don’t. But I took the Vaseline and Shea butter and Eucerin eczema lotion and mix it all together and put it on the skin. I hope this works

Hi dear, Just want to check how’s your son doing with his skin? My 4 months old have extreme eczema, for my elder 4 year old anything and everything on skin was fine but with the younger one exactly opposite. I have tried some steroids cream prescribed by a skin specialist and all the drugstore creams. It has improved a lot but not fully gone. I will be trying the baking powder bath in coming days. I feel helpless some days that I can’t solve this issue for my kid. Thanks for sharing, I will try all the steps and if it didn’t work out then may b I will try to meet a paediatric dermatologist.

My 2 year old has struggled with eczema since birth as well. Tubby todd also made it worse, eczema honey brand did nothing, tried goat milk products, oatmeal baths, he had an allergic reaction to vanicream. I use a steroid when he has a really bad bleeding spot but as far as what I finally found that works is Eucerin Eczema relief cream. I have to slather him in it every night but it’s the only thing so far that has worked! Vaseline would probably do the same I bet! Just an FYI if you haven’t tried that product and wanted something over the counter to try as well.

Hi there. I watched your video a few weeks ago and it helped push me to get a dermatology referral for my 5 month old son. His head and face look similar to your son's, and everything the pediatrician was prescribing was making it worse. As of today, we are also doing a medicated ointment and vaseline, all with the same instructions you got. I have to ask - did all of this petroleum/ointment destroy the fabrics your baby touched? I have used vaseline before with him and the sheets he slept on are forever stained. I'm so excited to have a remedy and feel hopeful after seeing your video, but at the same time am a little stressed about destroying his clothes, my clothes, sheets, bouncers, etc. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Literally try to only use oat based products. Although I tried an Aveeno cream that stung, I believe that was due to what I was using to wash myself. I've got everything from Aveeno and they are great product with no real fragrance. Also try the Aveeno cleansing oil, sometimes we just need not use anything liquid or soap based or just alternate when washing. Xxxxx

First off so sorry you’re going through this. Yes, we were told to put it on his head but not his face. Once he was healed we had no problems maintaining. His body reacted really well to it and didn’t rely on the ointment/medication. Once fully healed we no longer needed to put anything on his scalp. However, from time to time his cheeks will get dry and I’ll just use Vaseline or a face cream by Evereden.

My son is 19 months old and despite doing everything under the sun to heal is eczema he has yet to have a solid night of sleep without itching or scrubbing his face to death. I’m so tired and emotionally drained by this issue. My question to you is, how often is your son having breakouts to where you have to apply that prescribed ointment? And are you doing anything special with his diet or does he eat anything he wants? Would love to hear an update. Cheers.

So sorry you’re dealing with this. I know exactly how you feel. We applied the cream every night for about 5-7 days then he was completely healed. I would say he maybe breaks out once a month? It isn’t anything drastic maybe just a spot on his leg or arm. I let him have any type of food. His eczema doesn’t flare with food it’s mainly environmental or by friction if he’s crawling around a lot a particular day, etc. hope this helps!
