At this point, it's a known fact that Daniel Nejo always deliver, it's amazing how he gets the best camera Angle, the best sound, the ambience of his videos, it's all just great quality. I was wondering if I want to build something very rare and can't find anyone who has designed something close on any design site, although I know that rarely happens, what would you suggest would be the best way to hire a designer.

Hi, I'm UX/UI Designer (from GER) and a little bit confused about your tipps. In general, UX and UI are 2 different jobs. And not every UX designer is able to do UI and not every UI designer is a UX designer. Dribble has a lot of copy&paste styles, mostly there are UI Designer. You have to study there biography, if this projects are "real". Mostly, you can't show on dribble real designs from bigger companies, because of copyright. So most of the styles are not real projects, there just look nice. In short: UI = what the design looks like, UX = User Experience (the strategy behind an App). And the UX part is the most important part and based on user research, user flows, wireframing and so on. When your product is not logical, but it just look nice, user won't use it.
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey Amigo, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. Yes, so the first thing I look at is the UI (how good their designs look) and then when we start talking (after I reach out to them vai email, etc), based on my description of project needs and what we are trying to achieve, I will know if the person is someone who I can work with to achieve the UX (the experience and flow). As a startup founder creating a new software, we (startup founders) always already know how the user experience will be like (because we do months of research ahead of time checking competition, user needs, creating rough ugly sketches of our own, etc) So, my explanation of the project scope, flow etc - will enable the designer to be able to create wireframes of the flow which will then be converted into designs. As a founder, I am able to pick up on people's skillset or strengths when talking to them, so I can easily know if this person will be a good fit or not. As I said in the video, there are other layers involved which I will not be able to go through in the video due to time and not to make the video too long. (I just gave an overview of my thought process) Cheers Amigo

Always an inspiration👋 Is there a way one can see how the camera you use to film the sky, the side, your whole self and bike in full while on motion? Always wondered lol. And I already checked out the camera. You mentioned it in one of your replies. But just still do wonder how the filming of your whole self and bike from a distance while riding really works😂 And the feel, like a "Robot" when you're in WeWork and walking to get your hydration starter pack lol

If you are building in public, are you able to share your revenues etc, how you achieved growth, how you got your first customers, and if you have plans raising seed round or appropriate funding?
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey SM. Thanks for the comment Amigo! I’m not technically building in public as I’ve been working on my startup since 2021, so I took a break from KZbin and social media to focus on building and getting to a place where things are somewhat “stable”. (I didn’t have the time in the early stages to create any video or even have a life in the early stages) So, now that things are more “stable”, I have some time to record my day which is these videos I’m creating. I have started creating KZbin shorts to answer some of the questions you mentioned but I’ll also answer others in my coming vlogs. About raising money, I’m honestly not thinking of it at the moment because I belong to the school of thought of “bootstrapping”. So I’ll be bootstrapping for a while. Cheers Amigo

It would be great if you could publish a whole series as a guide for non-tech entrepreneurs. These questions are samples of what could be interesting to know for non-techies over there;)

Non-technical founders are basically bottom of the pile when it comes to startups. If one isn't technical, one better be either good at design or marketing. If one isn't good at all 3 of those things, one better be so good at talking or have money otherwise it's a sinking ship.

Hey Nejo, this is a fascinating series, and addicted to your videos. One small question, how do you fund your startup?
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey Amigo! Thanks for the comment and the kind words. So, I funded my startup in the beginning with money made from other businesses. I’ve always been an entrepreneur, so I’ve always had a source of income. So, for the first year of building and mini-launch of my startup, I funded it from my other businesses’s profit. But at the moment, the startup makes enough money to fund itself and pay all team members and expenses. Cheers

@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey David! Thanks for the comment and kind words. YES! When creating the video, I knew that designers and developers who follow me would also be able to see behind the scenes of how people hire and that can help them postion themselves to standout. For example, if you are a UI/UX designer - it would be a great idea to create designs in various niches, so that when people are searching to create a software in a niche and they see you have created something within that space, you instantly standout. For developers, it also shows that being able to answer questions posed in the job description of a project allows the person who's hiring know that you understand the project and are a good fit. Cheers Amigo!

Hey Jack! Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching! London is really good! But I’m low-key thinking of moving outside London for more green and space 😂 (we will see) About funding, I’ve always bootstrapped and plan to continue to do so. I’m from the school of thought of bootstrapping. I’ve turned down a few investments from VC firms and one of the top 2 startup accelerators in Silicon Valley, I want to boostrap this all the way (I might be wrong to do so but I’m trying to prove a point to myself and others within the startup space) 🙏

Hi, I'm a computer science student (from Italy) and I disagree with what you said in this video because if you are looking for a developer, I think it is not a good idea to ask ChatGPT about the requirements for the job. I think you should discuss with a senior developer about the best web technology to use for your application. These days you have many option that can be used. Nice vlog though! Cheers
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey Amigo! Thanks for the comment You have a point but AI can be used to help a non-technical founder navigate the early stages of finding / speaking to the right devs (because I know lots of people who will apply for roles in which they do not have the appropriate techstack for) Most non-technical founder do not know what techstack is needed to build their software / startup and thus do not know how to construct a job search content to find a developer (developers), however with the message from chatgpt like in the video, they can use that to start a dialogue to end up finding the right dev. Also, I know that senior devs and other devs are skeptical of chatgpt but it’s 1000% here to stay and here to almost (I said almost) replace lots of roles! Heck, my senior dev uses chatgpt every single day to solve complex things that he has no idea how to, in the past - I would have needed to hire an external contractor to come on board to solve (or implement) some of the things chatgpt just tells my senior dev how to do in minutes. I believe if you tell chatgpt the space and niche you are trying to build a startup in, it can confidently tell you the techstack needed and then you can use that to search for devs to start with and then take it from there PS; I’m not a technical founder, so I might be oversimplifying things in my comments above Cheers Amigo

Hey Dan! I’ve recently discovered your channel and I want to congratulate you for the quality and the aesthetics of your videos. I am an engineering student from Spain with a quite innovative idea for a startup, but I think I lack the technical abilities to program the entire platform. I wonder If you could give me some further advice on how to find and hire developers/ co-founders. Thanks in advance and keep grinding! 🚀
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey Mario! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching! I see! So, when it comes to hiring developers / Co-founders, I’m not particularly an expert, I only share what I know and what works for me. For Co-founders - I’ve always been the guy who had ideas but couldn’t develop it, so I would find technical guys from my circle and pitch the idea to them in which we will be 50-50 partners (he / she would be the technical Co-founder) BUT, none of those startups went anywhere because I later discovered that I’m not a Co-founder type of person 😂 I’m more a one man army! So, the only other option was to (is to) hire and pay people to develop my idea. But this ofcourse requires having money enough to pay them - because I never want anyone to work free for me based on promises of “what things could be”, I like to pay people for their time and service…… So, I had to make money to be able to afford to pay developers and team members who will build my idea. The exact method I use to hire people is what I explained and showed in this video. There’s really nothing more to it besides the process of actually speaking to the people who apply and then testing them out to see if they are a good fit; skill-set wise and budget wise. So, the punchline of my reply is 1. If you can’t build your status fully yourself, you have to find a technical Co-founder who has the skillsets to do so and you trust him/her and then you guys go 50-50 on ownership. 2. You hire people and pay them. You own 100% of your startup but you pay the people who work for you to build it (designers, devs etc) Hope this helps
@mariomedrano7305
@mariomedrano7305 Жыл бұрын
This actually helps a lot! Thanks for your help mate. I feel really identified with being “the guy who has ideas but couldn’t develop them”. As you said, It is difficult at first to be able to hire an entire team of developers, but I’ll try my best to launch an MVP and scale it.

Hey Amigo! Firstly, Weldone on choosing to learn a skill. UI/UX is a very lucrative skill to have. (It’s funny but I pay my Ui/UX designers more money than my developers because of how important UI is to the success of a product) You are on the right part of self learning. My only advice would be to start creating imaginary projects for imaginary clients in different industries so that you can have a handful of sample projects to show potential clients and/or companies when looking for gigs or a job. This will help you standout

Hey Marvelous, Footy Amigo doesn’t provide “predictions” - it’s a tool that allows people create strategies (with unlimited rules, stats and conditions) and FA sends an alert when it finds matches that fits their strategy, so they can use the information to make smarter and well-informed decisions. So, it’s used by people who already understand the need for a data-driven approach to decision making rather than using emotions, gut feelings or scantily available stats online. We do have predictive algorithms and pages that shows this on the dashboard but that’s not the core offering of FA.

Hey Amigo! Thanks for the comment. I use slack to speak to someone after I have hired them. Before hiring, I always chat with telegram. I mainly hire people from Upwork, so from Upwork I get them on telegram, have a zoom call etc before we start talking on slack. I have a video on my channel where I break down how I hire developers to my team! 🙏

Hey Callow. So, I have a Masters in Business Information Systems Management from London. In terms of skills - I started as a graphics designer, then a wordpress website designer, then evolved to a content creator / SEO and digital marketing. So, I am a combo of design, content creation and marketing.

Hiring designers from Dribble designs, haha thats new lowest low man. Pls anyone considering hiring designers, never ever do that
@lifeofnejo
@lifeofnejo Жыл бұрын
Hey amigo, thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. We would love to hear how you hire designers, pls share so we all can learn. As this is my channel, I share how I do my things and what works for me, you can share how you do yours so I and others can also learn. (My way is definitely not the “best” way, it’s a way that works for me time and time again) When you are creating a startup (or any business) and you are self-funding, you have to use the “lowest low” to find the cream of the crop and diamond in the rough. (Being able to do that is a skill on its own) I have built multiple products in which they were built using the exact same method I shared above, it’s my go-to way of finding talent (PS: it’s not fancy and definitely not the mainstream or traditional route, it’s the scrappy route) My current startup - Footy Amigo was built using that same exact way. It’s not fancy but it works when you are being scrappy and low on funds in the beginning stages. I have hired developers on fiverr who have built products that would have costed 100x more if I was to try hire the “traditional” or “fancy” way. As an early stage founder or business owner, you have to go into the mud sometimes to find talent. Also, you don’t just hire designers solely based on their designs. As stated in the video, filtering and finding people off of their design experience related to your niche/field is the first filtering method and then you have to reach out to them and then take it from there. Before I hire a single designer from dribble, I have emailed and had zoom calls with atleast 10 of them. I do my due diligence as anyone would expect. (Same for when I’m hiring developers, it’s the exact same thing) When the business gets profitable and you have enough money in the bank, you can then hire the none “lowest low” way. Let’s win! 🏆
