This is such an excellent explanation! Finally I understand how you are both tensioning the yarn and holding that left needle at the same time! I did not understand before seeing this video. Thank you so much for sharing it!

I am enchanted watching this video! Some questions: what are these lovely orange-toned DPNs, are they metal or wood? (What is their mm size). And I notice the column of uninterrupted stockinette in blue on the edges of the sock that does not contain any lighter-colored stitches. Is that to control the jog in the colorwork, or is it just a design element without any further purpose in this sock. What a beautiful result!

Thank you so much for your comment! Very happy to hear that you like the video! The DPN's are metal with coloured coating of some kind. They used to belong to a lovely old lady in my family. She used to help me with my knitting when I was a little girl. I believe the needles are from around the 60's. I think they are form NOVI Industrier. They used to produce knitting needles in Norway but they must have stopped a while ago because I can't remember ever having seen them for sale anywhere. The column of dark sts you see has no function, it is just a part of the design. If you look at especially Norwegian Selbu mittens, they have one pattern on the top side and another pattern on the grip side of the hand. The two patterns are almost always divided by a column of sts usually 1-3 sts wide. It does help with keeping track of the pattern though =)
