I work on territories with both TWC and CTC, we used to copy and write down the track authorities on each corresponding book, now days we request and get our track authorities via a laptop and the DS sends us a pdf file of our track authorities, but we still do the old fashion way of copying and hand writing the authorities as a backup and for those who doesn’t have a company laptop yet, for us it’s a must to have a hard copy or a pdf file for us to check and make sure we stay within our limits and when we get audited by the FRA and roadmaster on track authorities we have the pdf and hard copy of our authorities for proof of track occupancy.

For those reading this Jason works for BNSF and this is how their track safety is accomplished, It's a very reliable and safe way to do things for the big railroads.
@jasonbabila6006 Жыл бұрын
Another thing I want to point out is a behind on TWC, we can get a behind following a train with only a Box-2 warrant(proceed) and we have to verify with the DS that the lead locomotive of the train I or we are getting a behind warrant(Box-4) is by our point of entry(crossing) before the DS gives us a warrant, then we have to call the train and ask for their head end location(milepost) then brief with them our intentions then say if they have to stop or make a reverse move to contact us of their intentions before we set any vehicles on.

I've worked industrial maintenance. I used to argue with the suits constantly, as they just couldn't believe that no matter what, machines WILL break. The best you can do is to try to "schedule" the breakage by having the strongest preventative maintenance program you can. The world is an imperfect place and things will break unexpectedly. Usually this fell on deaf ears, and the suits would be back the next week asking why our 20 year old machines we run 24/7 have such terrible down time. I think you guys do an amazing job, especially considering the lean years you've held it together. So glad the new owners are giving you the support you need.
@brvfd822 Жыл бұрын
Deal with the same industrial problems every day. 🤣
@crazyguy32100 Жыл бұрын
Amen. To make matters more fun you combine a refusal to shut the machines down for basic maintenance with ancient equipment and virtually no stock of spare parts ("Why do we need to order that gizmo? It's running now with to old one in there") or consideration of improvements that only decrease downtime, not increase hourly production rate. Multi-million dollar transfer machine going down daily due to electonics overheating after the cabinet cooler failed 3 years ago, number of drives it's gone through is easy 4x the cost of a new cooler, not including downtime. But the suits say it doesn't need the cooler to run, so here we are.

@@crazyguy32100 our place actually replaced the load center coolers with home central air units. It seems to have helped on some of the larger machines…

"We have almost no problems. "It's that "almost" that would have me concerned Dave. "Read back" or "repeat back" communications has the benefit of being simple and IT WORKS. If the guy repeating back gets something confused or wrong you're gonna know it and can stop him and correct him. Military does exactly the same thing because the stakes are just as high. Communications is a fantastic tool. I wish more people would use it. Your "front office" should love those excellent condition reports, fewer problems means less time and money wasted from having to do emergent repairs because when the railroad shuts down it isn't making money.

The newer generation of Foremen have never really had much experience with the paper TOPs, us more seasoned employees are fortunate to have lots of experience for the sole reason that you can never count 100% on cell reception (or servers going down). Thankfully I came into the industry well after working off a line up, have heard some sketchy stories of the motpr car handles getting cleaned off at the last second....

Speaking of all that rock, it's good to see you wearing your safety glasses out there Dave. I was talking to a couple of section workers at the gas station the other day fueling up their ten ton truck and noticed the big broken no draft window on the drivers side all taped up with plastic. I asked him what had happened and he said a rock came through there while he was parked by the tracks. He lifted his cap and showed me the big scar right in the middle of his forehead. He said it was a good thing that he had his head down at the time or it could have easily taken an eye out. I guess you just never know with that ballast rock.

Diligent Dave. One big thing about safety is that you start taking things for granted and you get complacent and that's where the problems can really start. Always looking forward to your Trackside chats

Hi Mr. Dave, I've got to hand it to you. When you said it was, basically a stress reliever you were on point. I could watch this video and, well just this little bit relaxed me. The sound of the truck on the rails, I almost fell asleep, not saying it was boring it wasn't, post more videos like this. Thanks, for sharing.

I was watching another channel , a train channel and he sometimes videoed Amtrak trains, he also had a receiver to listen to the chatter on the railroad frequency. Well once he caught some unusual conversation, well it went something like this ,"Callsign to dispatcher, we need a clean up team @cp**," "dispatcher to callsign "why", "callsign to dispatcher "well four deer ran across in front of us then bolted back, now there's 8 deer" , dispatcher to callsign "understood will let the subdivision mow crew know ", "conductor to dispatcher " can you send us a psychologist to cp** a young lad witnessed the whole incident and is pretty torn up over it?!" dispatcher to conductor " will do " ,dispatcher to conductor" thank you callsign, out". That was a disturbing bit of conversation, but deer frequent the area all the time, but something spooked them , the channel owner said he thinks it was stray dogs. Well anyhow that was the oddest thing I ever heard on his channel.

Dave. I take it that the railroad Co owns the mine, and the rolling stock. And this in turn is screened ? And then loaded on barges and delivered to a power plant! Is this a surface mine or an underground. Mine? You probably have had these questions before I can’t surf very easily to locate videos that you may have answered before, sorry.😊
@ccrx6700 Жыл бұрын
Yes our mine owns all rolling stock a it is screened at the prep plant before loading onto the hopper cars. This is an underground mine 700 to 1200 feet deep ferstuck. No problem on the surfing, it would take several videos to find all that out anyway. Appreciate your taking the time to pay us a visit and check out the video my friend.

Thanks for the safety show. It has taken a long time to achieve the current level of worker safety. I worked in an industrial plant in 1960-65 summers, we had some track in the plant. Our safety procedures were minimal, but I never heard of a rail-related injury. The older hands looked out for the bonehead teenagers. 😁
@ccrx6700 Жыл бұрын
Thats the best safety is the older guys who know teaching the young guys, some old guys don't want to share so it's really good your guys did. Appreciate your taking the time to pay us a visit and check out the video my friend.

It is good to hear of the maintenance programs that you are using! Most companies haven't been able to maintain their equipment since the 2008 market crash. The chemical plant near me blows a steam line a little too often. Some of those explosions are massive. So far the railroad hasn't fallen in disrepair.
