The British who went to colonies used to net their beds at night I understand. They also tried to stop the beggars breeding by draining swaps etc. Not easy trying to drain the Philippines though !!

You mentioned the foods that attract mosquitoes. What about the foods that repel mosquitoes such as onions, garlic, apple-cider vinegar, chili peppers, lemongrass, tomatoes, grapefruit etc? Also there are certain plants you can grow and hang pieces of around your house that also give off a smell that mosquitoes don't like. I realise you said you have already dealt with the problem, but shoring up the defences can't hurt. All the Best, Matthew

yep, cheers, as time goes by will find more information and what works better than others but thanks for the info

Wow Alan, you’re so high maintenance 😂 I feel for you, as I’ve never been bit abroad, ever. The word you were looking for was become “immune” to the bites. The tan is coming along nicely 😮. m-E-m 👌😜🤘

Hey Alan, I caught malaria twice in my lifetime. Remember, if you happen to get fever that is above 40 degrees Celsius, with an extremely sore back and is shivering from cold although it's flipping hot outside, there's a high chance it is malaria. It's no joke. See immediate medical attention.

I spent almost a year alltogether in Brazil. And yeah.... the same issue with mosquitos. But as you have said. You get to deal with them after a while and your body most certainly gets used to it and adapts. But then when I stayed close to beaches and city areas. There werent any mosquitos at all. Especially if you stay in a flat on the 5th floor and directly to the ocean side. The wind there is mostly so strong for any mosquitos to have any proper control of being able to fly near the coast. Funny thing tho. I have seen more mosquitos in Germany in some areas than in Brazil. Overall insects can get annoying in the beginning but when you get used to how to deal with it, it stops being a serious problem.
@alan4x3 ай бұрын
thanks for your comment Stinktierchen, yes sound advise and yeah, after a while they just won't be a big irritation 😊
@geoffvickers54473 ай бұрын
Use chalk to stop the ants. If you draw a line they won't cross it. Where they come in draw a circle around it then won't come in that hole.
@alan4x3 ай бұрын
well thank you vic, I will try that 😁

I had 4 weeks in Tarlac City, the mosquitos and ghekos were not really a problem , keep windows and doors closed, there is a tennis racket available which has an electrified wire which worked, some large black flies which settle on food were a nuisance, the mosquitos seem to avoid some people and attack others.
@alan4x3 ай бұрын
thanks for the advise, I seen those black flys ..not nice lol

We once went on holiday to the Outer Hebrides, an island called The Isle of Barra. it was great, but on the very last day there was an influx of gnats/mosquitos. We were flying back home that evening and when these little buggers had finished biting me (like you Alan, I am bald) I was like the elephant man. It was said on the day that it was the worst it had been for years. I never got a really bad reaction from them, but boy was I itching. Glad you found a solution to the problem mate. Stay safe and well, Norm.

Hi Alan. I did all the research that you did on bites last week. I came up with much the same answers. I think the blood type reason is true as I get bitten less, if at all, than other people do.

yeah, they say if you are type 'o' blood you are more susceptible to bites

Hi Alan, They are a bigger aren't they. Sounds like you have got the better of them. I used DEET for a while, it worked but one day I drove my Citroën BX straight after, when we arrived I found the residue on my hand had dissolved the surface of the steering wheel 😂😅. For me, mesh and fly spray work best in the house, covering up when out, I also have an ultrasonic deterrent that seems to work. Do they use those where you are? Cheers Graham
@alan4x3 ай бұрын
hi, not seen any ultrasonic devices but do have the electronic zappers, fly spray and sticky fly catching paperand yeah I am certainly not keen on smearing chemicals on me

When we go on holiday to Jamaica we have been bitten a few times over the years last September we always get up early to pick are favourite sun beds under our favourite palm trees 🌴 usual 10ft from the beach bar the over night security guard was dressed for winter he told its to stop the sand flys bits we should talking to him for a while with a shorts and sandals on after going for breakfast we noticed we had little bits over us not quite as bad as mosquito bites even with repellents they still bite but the good news the is 24h sports with very cold air conditioning so sit having a few cocktails but I will try your tips on when we going out back in April there is no many lizards but a plenty of black ants we have been to Cuba a few times and they have a few lizards also lots of old cars some British

The local people are used to it because they're body has built up a resistance. It will happen to you eventually too, I promise you that. The only mosquitoes the local are scared getting bitten are the ones that carry 'Dengue fever' this can potentially kill you if you are weak or old. That twirly coil that give off smoke is called 'Baygon Katol' and yes the don't like that! You want one of those luminating light zapper at night they can help. Also lots of candles help as they fly near it they just burn. But ya get that Air Con fixed in your room, it will be a game changer with sleep!
@isbemorph3 ай бұрын
I've tried UV light zapper and found out that mosquitos are not attracted to it, unless someone is after moths and night beetles.
@alan4x3 ай бұрын
I tried arguing the point with a doctor that our bodies would slowly adapt to the bites and the symptoms would be less severe but she was having none of it..what you say makes perfect sense and I do believe our bodies do build up resistance to mosquito bites etc so if I am here in 6 moths time I will update, cheers

I had a bad reaction to a mosquito or something in the garden at home. It got bigger and bigger in about 4 days my arm swelled right up. So I went to the doctor's and she gave me antihistamine tablets which I took sometimes for my hay fever anyway and by the next morning it had gone right down.

No more mozzie bites. Not one. They can smell your blood even though you're not bleeding. Just like Dogs can be trained to sniff out cancer, diabetes, etc.
