I totally cheated while making this “year long” temperature scarf project. I wanted to do something like a temperature blanket but that would have used way too much yarn and have been a project I would abandon for certain.
After deciding on the scarf I realized that if i wanted it to be easy and completed by the end of the year l would need a plan of attack.
I procrastinated and tge year zipped oast me and the last week i decided to get this oroject done!
I collected all the high temp data from my hubby’s weather station app, put all the data in a spreed sheet, then did conditional formatting so it would automatically color the cells.
This made it so easy to whip out the scarf in just a few hours. Yup, this is the cheater part of this story. I dont feel in the bit sorry either! I completed the temperature scarf and I’m proud if it. 😊
I divided my temperatures into 7 different colors - my part if the country is very temperate - we don’t drop below freezing very often so my cold color was the biggest range it was between 20-41° and I still only ended up with 14 days of the coldest color! The rest of the ranges were: 41-51, 51-61, 61-71, 71-81, 81-91, and then 91-115°
I used yarn from my stash and just picked colors that represented the temperature ranges - you could totally do this with more harmonious colors - all blues, greens, pinks etc. just make sure they range from datk to light- then do tge light colors as tge coldest and tge dark colors as the warmest.
I was thinking there might be a way to get historical temperature data for someones birth year to make a scarf or blanket as a special gift. I love how the random blocks of color appear and how it all works together.
