i am sharing how i learned to actually love cardio, from a former cardio-hater herself, by sharing 9 (hopefully helpful) tips that enabled me to enjoy cardio - from running, biking, cycling, group fitness, walking, etc. cardio has changed my life and my mentality and i hope this video can be beneficial in some small way :')
some of these tips were inspired by Coach Bennett from the Nike Run Club and specifically from one of my favorite runs ever: "Worst Advice Ever Run"

Thank you so much for making this video. We need more messaging to change the narrative of cardio as a tool for weight loss to the best tool for cardiovascular health. There are so many creators in the health space who preach against cardio which is nuts. In the words of Greg Doucette: the heart is the most important muscle of the body not your biceps so makes more sense to strengthen the heart 😍😍

I finally got it to really stick in my mind that cardio is to make me healthier, not to lose weight. I've always known it but after getting covid I couldn't even take a deep breath still weeks later. Cardio is helping me restore my body. And something about that is so magical

we need more gym teachers and sport coaches that don’t use cardio as a punishment and teach these kids that exercise is a great thing for your health mentally and physically. I used to HATE working out and I think it was precisely because I thought of it as a punishment and my gym teachers made it miserable for me

That's so funny that you prefer running in new locations, I'm the opposite! I love running the same route because I can tune out/it's one less thing to worry about, but also using the same route as markers of progress (eg how I feel at a certain spot on the run, is my pace/energy improved whereas last time I felt like I was dragging, etc.)

I went on a short run few weeks ago, and breathing technique really helped me a lot, I used to feel like i’m constantly out of breath and thats what made me avoid running but now when I run, in my head I can literally hear your voice reminding me to breathe and slow down, which is good ofc, because I could actually finish the whole run without stopping to take a deep breath

Pro Tip: keep the workouts short! I’m wayyyy more motivated to do a 20-30 min workout and then add in a walk later in the day. Also, Taylor what’s the biggest myth busting facts you’ve learned in your own journey and CPT course?
@TaylorWoods
@TaylorWoods 2 жыл бұрын
oh my gosh such a good tip! biggest myth busting i just saw the other day was the “fat burning zone” that is so often advertised on cardio machine at the gym! it’s so silly and such bad marketing lol and it also doesn’t make any sense

Thank you THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Tip number 1 is SOOO important! High school sports really made me look at running as punishment and as an adult trying to unlearn that and reprogram my brain about fitness and health has been a journey and this video is truly so helpful! Thank you for all these helpful tips and advice! Definitely going to implement these into my routine 💕

also, if you want to get into running in particular, look up if there's a parkrun near you! It's a free weekly 5k run and they have them all over the world. Everyone there is super friendly and there's no time pressure (at my local one people's times range from 16 minutes to 55 minutes!) Plus, they give you a free tshirt at certain milestones (50 runs, 100, etc) which is a BIG motivator not gonna lie

I totally feel ya on the clarity aspect of cardio. When I’m at a standstill in writing a song (solo) - I’ll go to the gym or clubhouse and hop on an elliptical or incline treadmill… next thing I know, I’ve finished it. It’s so dope and another way I’ve come to love it.

I just finished my first half marathon like a weekend or two after yours! Youve literally echoed most of my thoughts as a causal runner as well 😂♥️ what really helped push me was that I was doing this half for myself! Not for anyone else. I didn’t do it to qualify for anything or prove something to someone, I just wanted to do it for me. It was way more fun that way! Now that it’s over I’m like well shoot now what should I do… 😂

I used to do cardio every single day, like I had to do hundreds of burpees, jumping jacks and whatnot to look ‘nice’ for people just because I saw girls on social media with certain body shape, now I look back its really sad, I was so tiny and skinny, but I still thought it wasn’t enough and I would pinch my belly thinking to myself that I needed to lose some more so I’d have no ‘extra fat’ in my body. I’m really thankful for your video, we need more messaging to change our perspective on how cardio is the only way to lose weight and as a punishment for ‘eating too much’.

thank you so so much! with every shoe i have actually gone to the store and talked to a consultant to find the right fit for me. for running, i got tested and fitted for a shoe. with resistance training, i was directed to a few pairs at nike and tried on a few i liked that felt good to me. i think the in store experience is so important because everyone will have different preferences!

At the moment I consider being able to run more than 200 meters a privilege... I have neglected my physical health for soooo long, not realising what it had come to. Running a 5k used to be "a walk in the park" in my teens and I hated to run, but now in my 20's I just feel weak and slow. So the couchto5k journey has begun, and I actually kinda like running now.
