I’m 32, I’ve had tinnitus since. Was 18 and hyperacusis for the past couple of years, the last year has become more extreme and now I basically live in ear plugs when I’m eating, out in the street, in a supermarket, basically everywhere I’m not at home in peace and quiet. Every time there is a noise that rumbles the inside of my ear I just feel pure anxiety. I feel like I’m never going to live a life without having to wear ear plugs all the time. I’m currently using -27 db customer moulded ones and to be honest there are times I think I need a bigger reduction. Nice to see at least others are managing to cope with this. I pray for the day I can 🙏🏻

Thank you for raising the important point - essential really - that this is a mind-body issue. The more we "hate" it or want it to just "get better" or focus in on the symptoms, the harder it is to recover. I know it will take time, but I am following a similar approach as you, and also using various practices to calm down the nervous system, focus on the body (yoga etc.) and staying "willing" to have it. Anxiety and depression are strongly associated in my case and I find the better the mood, or the calmer I am, the less severe the symptoms. Stay positive everyone (and do stay away from bad news, including negative crap on forums or patient discussion groups or reddit etc...).

What does your tinnitus sound like? Is it loud? How much does it bother you?

Loudness hyperacusis and pain hyperacusis (noxacusis) are two different things. Enduring noise when you have pain hyperacusis will only worsen you, potentially to extreme levels (constant 8, 9, or 10/10 nerve pain). This video should not be taken as advice for those who feel lasting physical pain in their ears around noise.

Still can’t eat dinner with my family most nights though, I stay in my room and listen to background noise. Pretty depressing. But most days are easy to work with. I just can’t believe that people never talk about these conditions. Loud sound is everywhere and depending on your occupation sometimes you can’t escape it. For years I thought that damaging your ears meant that you just lose some frequencies faster as you age. I never knew how easy it is to damage them and develop symptoms like tinnitus or hyperacusis. This needs to be taught in schools from a young age…

Hi. Sorry for late replies. My tinnitus and hypercusis have not changed. Through AWARENESS based meditation, I change my relationship with 'pain & suffering'. Instead of wishing tinnitus or anything else to be healed, to be gone etc, I ACCEPT what IS!!. By accepting and not constantly fighting the MIND (mind's thoughts, and stories) and just OBSERVING what the mind throws at me and OBSERVE them like sky observing the clouds, storms etc, being AWARE has brought me peace and calm and not wanting to CHANGE this and that, I feel at peace. hence, cortisol level comes down. I feel peace. I can't explain this well. I strongly recommend the pain book by Dr..E Sarno, taking up NON- DUALITY meditations and learn to be in the PRESENT MOMENT.

Have only had hyperacusis for about 5 or 6 days, and it is certainly on the milder spectrum than what it seems some of you are experiencing, so please dont light me up in the comments, i know some of you have it so much worse, and I have no idea the pain you've dealt with. It came on while having the flu, which seemed mild so i just sat around listening to music for 8 hrs a day. Noticed a brightness to my system, so just kept messing with it not knowing it was this starting, and it kept getting worse. Then just on. Just gave this concept a shot, i.e. positivity and giving no energy to even the idea of hyperacusis, and am immediately noticing a major reduction in symptoms. Practicing hearing right through the "veil of the condition" to the music that I'm so passionate about, dancing to it and giving the middle finger to my worrisome thoughts, and all of a sudden the highs esoecially aren't turning me inside out. Thanks so much for the info brother!! 🙏😁

Anxiety, stress, sleepless nights, accidental noise, sodium, sugar, processed meats, canned foods, maybe even dairy products. You gotta have a distraction. I play video games but too much of that gives me a headache and makes my tinnitus louder. Perhaps pick up a new skill :) a new quiet skill like painting or drawing or crossword puzzles. persistence! It was about 6 months before i even realized i wasn't noticing it. key to remember is that if you think about it, it re-appears. also key is that if you let it stress you, it probably won't get better. which is rly hard - to not feel stressed! my live band were wondering in july 2016 why i was so moody in rehearsals. its was my hypericusis, which at that time was 5 months old. by keeping up with your music work, you train your brain to 'listen through' the tinnitus or hyperacusis. Did you experience physical pain, though? Not to discount your story -- it's wonderful that you're back to it and I'm extremely happy for you, truly -- but it seems that every success story I've read involves "loudness H," not "pain H." Unfortunately I have latter -- deep, sharp, biting pain in my ears from even the most minor sounds. It's taken years for it to get this bad, though -- at first it was "loudness H" and in hindsight, though I might have called it pain, it was really just "discomfort." Not true, "make it stop" types of pain like I'm feeling now. I'm starting to believe that these two things are actually completely different conditions with different mechanisms -- one being "loudness H" and is often probably actually misophonia, hence why sound therapy and essentially "gritting your teeth and getting on with it" works; the other being "pain H," which the most current research by Paul Fuchs shows is a very rare activation of otherwise dormant pain receptors in the ear.

How did you do it??
@londonelektricity3 жыл бұрын
persistence! It does work - I had no choice but to make it work, given my jobs!
@smoovlatino3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your response - I am noticing, almost two months in, that I am habituating to the ringing. I had a bit of distortion with louder voice in my left ear that has gone from catastrophic to my psychological well-being to just an annoyance. I appreciate your video during my darks times (when I commented). It was critical as “positive food for the mind.”

In my personal eyperience tinnitus comes 100% from musclur tension which is mostly increased becouse of too high levels of stress. Sit on the floor for three hours and do nothing. Just look out the window in silence. I bet your tinnitus will be less afterwards.
@freimutspitzkopf2258 Жыл бұрын
Also the causal chain looks something like this: Stress --> Muscular tension --> Tinnitus and it is not Brain -->Tinnitus. Almost everybody gets this wrong Including most doctors.

Hello is it normal to hear my tinnitus over Sounds as this is what I hear.. I suffer from PTSD after a traumatic birth and this is what caused it
@londonelektricity4 жыл бұрын
I’m not an Audioligist so I’d suggest if you can, and I know it’s hard right now, see if you can see one. But my opinion - they do say trauma can bring it on. Tinnitus is a strange thing. But take my word for it, because I’ve done it, you can get used to it and ‘normalise’ it into your life. At least you have something else to listen to other than your baby crying! I hope your baby is ok, and congrats are in order, despite what must have been a difficult birth. Tip: I couldn’t get my firstborn to sleep, no matter what we tried. Then one day I put on a liquid D&B mix while I was working and he fell straight to sleep 👍🏼 good luck

London Elektricity thank you for replying I will try and see an audiologist if I can.. And yes I believe trauma can cause it as I experienced intense stress. Baby is ok, she’s home with me now out of intensive care - it’s been hard! I also suffer from hyperacusis so with the 2 hand in hand it causes me distress and I’m trying to find answers and reassurance for what I’m going through. Sometimes I feel like I’m going crazy!

I know a woman in India who got T after giving Caesarian birth. Her issue she discovered was the way she slept for nine months on her left side which compromised her neck and jaw. Stress was the biggest factor. She’s currently doing different protocols to heal.

@@melissakamara4740 you're right. Trauma can make it much worse. but, as trauma becomes less stressful over time, you will be able to hear through it even if it doesn't go away.

yes you do. I was advised my one of the authors of www.amazon.co.uk/Living-Tinnitus-Hyperacusis-McFerran-Baguley/dp/1847090834 and he made it clear that this will be with me forever, also, that I should carry on with my life in music as want to - and he said my brain will adjust over time. it was tough for a few months, but sure enough, it's only at times of severe stress in my life that i realize it's still there. I do recommend this book as well!

If you have Hyperacusis some people say always protect your ears at all costs and don't ever use sound therapy. Others say use sound therapy (pink noise) but don't over use ear protection for normal day sounds/activities as it becomes more sensitive... Obviously in loud places use protection. What do we do? Example being here..: "Wearing hearing protection making hyperacusis worse is a bullshit lie made up by TRT enthusiasts. You absolutely MUST protect your ears and be in silence to recover. Sound therapy makes hyperacusis worse. STOP doing sound therapy, PROTECT your ears as much as possible, AVOID loud environments at all costs, and most importantly give yourself time. The reason your hyperacusis is getting worse is because you aren't protecting enough". Naturally like many others am now so confused and scared. Thanks

An MRI is what gave me extraordinarily bad pain hyperacusis. Certainly couldn't recommend an MRI you already have hyperacusis, unless absolutely necessary for a separate, urgent issue.
