Thanks for sharing! I’ve been delving into oil painting for over a year now and have found I enjoy drawing with paint more than using charcoal 😊

I hadn't heard of water soluble oils before, this is game changing.

They’ve had them for a while now but they are actually pretty good now before they didn’t have the tinting strength of oils and where just kind of strange in terms of how they move with a brush and water.

@@AaronWesterbergSmile Definitely going to give them a try, the mineral spirits and what to do with them when I'm finished a painting session has always made me hesitate with consistently practicing oils.

Thanks for sharing your experience! As someone who has struggled through being self taught and learning to draw, and who always hears “learn to draw before you paint” this approach is really interesting. I’m gonna have to look into the water soluble oils. Your work is stunning, and I’m really enjoying all the video content!

Thank you and thank you for taking the time to watch. Rembrandt has a pretty good line of water soluble oils called Cobra they have a lot of color options.

@@AaronWesterbergSmile thanks for that recommendation. I see they have a red earth color. I’m going to give this a try very soon. Oh, and you mention Richard Schmid. Is Alla Prima the book you had in mind?
@AaronWesterbergSmileАй бұрын
@@tourdewade2305yes that’s basically how I learned to paint.

Would raw and burnt umber also make a good warm and cool color combination to practice with? If not what other browns would you recommend?
@AaronWesterbergSmile2 ай бұрын
@@Danny-isauniquehandle yes that would work, I would put a little yellow ochre in the raw umber, just to warm it up a bit more, but yes absolutely.
