Have you ever wanted to learn songs a lot faster on bass?
Have you ever been asked to learn 40-100 bass lines within a matter of days?
Well, in today's video I want to share with you my simple 5 part framework for learning songs on bass, fast!
In this video, you'll also learn:
• The 4 levels of transcription
• A common mistake bass players make when using the numbers system
• How to use skeleton grooves to learn rhythms faster
• An advanced ear training exercise which will also improve your fretboard knowledge
So grab a pen and paper and get ready to make notes because...
I break down my whole process from start to finish, holding nothing back!
Timestamps:
0:00 - How I discovered the system
0:54 - Why did I only have 48 hours?
1:34 - Do this before listening to the song!
2:40 - 2 most important things
3:03 - Part 1
3:47 - Part 2
4:29 - Part 3
5:27 - The parent scale & numbers system
7:34 - Part 4
10:02 - Part 5
12:24 - Advance bonus tip
13:34 - The BIG mistake I made when I turned to the rehearsal
14:05 - How to find the key of a song
Enjoy,
Jaz

Wow - where was a teacher like you in 1965. I grew up in Baltimore and the radio at the time was full of Soul and Blues. Teachers didn't grow on trees for the bass at that time. Thanks for sharing and taking the time to do the videos.

I'm five minutes in, and as a guitarist I find this helpful. I almost skipped past it because it was for bass.

Wow Jaz, I thought I was the only one that experienced that, (terrifying), "mind going blank" thing. Thanks for this. I'll still feel terrified but at least not alone. :-)

Great video. Classic lesson on taking the bass out the case and forgetting your notes. Check and check again. It’s amazing how simple errors like that can end in a car crash, and we all do them all the time 😂

It's so funny how I'd spend so much time preparing and then a simple error like that would ruin all the work I put in! Something I want to start doing more is working on my retention of tunes. I have a few tricks and tools I use to retain songs but it's defintaley a working progress (I feel like it's getting worse the older I get) 😂

You don't have to de-tune the whole bass for "Summer of '69", just the E-string.

@@JazMoss That's based on the isolated bass track. I had to learn songs fast for a gig as well, and isolated bass tracks (which there are many of on KZbin nowadays) has been making things super easy, especially if the bassline sits low in the mix.

Great video thanks. But I don’t get why you had to learn 125 songs in 2 days for a rehearsal. That’s about 8 hours of playing straight. 😂
