Thanks for this, Cathrin! I selfishly have missed your KZbin expertise content because it's helped me so much. Like others have said, you come across as genuine and others...not so much. It's also heartening to hear that it took you 1 1/2 years to get your first 1,000 subscribers. I'm 6 months in and have 26, which I'm super proud of, but of course I'd love to be at 1,000 already. Right now money is SUPER tight so I'm filming with an iPhone that I already had and using the free version of Canva to edit- so while there's a lot I'd like to improve on that I just can't right now because of money, I'm proud of what I've been able to do so far and I'm just focusing on trying new things and having fun with it.

For the pass 2 yrs KZbin was stressing me out how long it was taking to get to 1000. Then October 1st at 12am I posted a short and gain 11 subscribers in 28seconds by the 5th I reached my 1000 subscriber growth. I was stagnant at 960 for 2 months

My thumbnails almost always look jacked up unless I save as a .png and not a .jpg. .jpg is a 'lossy' format and will start artifacting, esp if you usually shoot in a larger 16:9 (like 1920x1080) and have to scale it down to make it thumbnail size. Also, re: 1K subs... set goals based on the factors you have control over, and ignore the ones KZbin force you to look at. While good, relevant content will make people sub to you, you can't make people click that subscribe button. You don't truly have control over that. You have control over stuff like making sure you upload every week, or learning a new editing 'trick' every week, or increasing your expertise in your niche. If you look at the numbers KZbin wants you to look at, it WILL affect your mental health.

Brilliant video thanks Cathrin! BLURRY THUMBNAILS! 18:20 This happens to me all the time, here's my fix that might not help everyone or even anyone because I use a Mac. I screengrab my thumbnail from footage, and that means it is always soft, and I make my thumbnails with Keynote. I always, always click on the image, advanced adjustments and push up 'sharpness' up to 100%. I'm sure you can do this with photoshop and canva, turn up the sharpness. If you're grabbing your image using your editing software, there might even be a 'sharpen' tool that you can apply to the clip when you're grabbing. Hope this helps...

I really like what you said regarding smaller youtubers. It’s easy to get down on yourself when you see other creators with more views and subscribers. I don’t really think 1400 subscribers seems like that many compared to what other people have but when I think about 1400 people in one room, that’s quite a bit of people.

I had a dilemma for so so long! I took a break from my KZbin channel for over two years 😱 because I didn’t want to be on the same niche and didn’t feel inspired to keep creating the same videos, but seeing you switching your content has inspired me so much, and now I am back on KZbin feeling very excited and motivated again! Fuzzy photos will happen when you create the image in a small file size. When you upload them to the internet, not just KZbin, they compress the file. Always shoot photos on the largest size and edit in Photoshop and make sure you don't loose the file size when editing.

How do you feel about KZbin shorts? I have one hit 9 million and another 6 million. I gained subscribers but my views on longer form content hasn't increased much. So subscriber numbers like you said really don't matter. I repurpose my Instagram reels to KZbin shorts on occasion but it's a bummer it hasn't helped with long form videos. KZbin keeps pushing for them though.

Ohhhhh loved this video !! I personally was less interested in your home-videos, mostly cause I subscribed to you for the content about KZbin, but stayed subscribed to see if you make more videos on KZbin :) So many things you said resonated with me... the whole "this is not forever" which I am in this phase now thinking also forward, and yeah, my plan is also to buy a flat with the money from it LOL (just in a different country, hence the lack of interest when you made videos on that). I also totally agree about the whole- it's not about the sub amount. I have 2-3 other KZbinrs in my niche that double, tripple, and even 5 times me in subs- yet I get the same or 90% the amount of their views LOL One last thing- I know some of my viewers that stay all the way due to bloopers at the end... Bloopers def keep people interested, as well as running a live premier on most of my videos so the core of the viewers come to chat, mostly with each other :) Was checking out the camera, would LOVE to have that kit, and the price is soooo good, but they only ship to the USA, trying to find a friend in the US for that. Great video, keep at it, and congrats on the hosue :)

I remember your sock drawer video!! It was such a quick clip that I had to go back & look at it after I saw the comments! Lol When I forget the “please like & subscribe” part, I record it at the end this put it in the video where I feel it fits naturally. Why don’t you think that KZbin would be forever for you? If anyone, I think it would be you! Like FR FR! Use Canva to make your thumbnail pics better. I always have to change the lighting, saturation, etc in my pics before I make it a thumbnail.
