As a former independent dealer from KC, I feel your pain. Years ago, I had to take a massive haircut on a group of cars that had been dropping in value as well as eating me up in previous parts/repairs and accumulating interest payments. A BMW 3-series convertible and a Mercedes SL500 were the main culprits from the group. I used to have a great mechanic until I moved. My only complaint ever was they had an apprentice do my oil change and he pulled the funnel out after filling and wedged it beside my engine right in the exhaust manifold and forgot it there. It ended up melting all over the side of my engine and side of my turbo . They paid to have my engine detailed to clean off all the plastic and gave mw two free oil changes. when i told him i was moving he was nice enough to do an oil change on my car and my wifes SUV for the two oil changes.

I really don’t like them myself, and yes they have a much higher than normal failure rate, but it’s actually no where near 100%, or even 30%, it’s just people like to b*tch about the problems and few brag about how reliable they can be. My buddy has a ford dealership & because of the affiliation there once was, he has quite a few show up for maintenance & repairs. Some are over 300,000 km (188,000 miles approximately) without serious repairs. The rest tend to be over 160,000 km (100,000 miles) that don’t have serious repairs. He does have a fair number of horror stories, but then he can talk about horror stories from his brother’s Toyota dealership, just not a similar percentage of the cars sold. Owning a Range Rover isn’t a guarantee at all breakdown. On TFL, they have had several very good Range Rover, land rovers that have had maintenance only on them & they get daily driven and taken off-road a fair amount as well. NOO they are not great, but the was people exaggerate. Makes them look really foolish. It’s not cool to be that wrong! 😂😂😂

The Range Rover is almost certainly a loss even with the YT revenue. Nice thing in Hoovies case is even if YT isn’t that profitable it’s great marketing/name recognition for his other ventures like the Barret Jackson gig and getting GMYT off the ground. I’m sure GMYT is a goldmine. other than the capex on the studio (and paying Jake) the cost of creating content is almost zero so it’s YT revenue without the cost of buying the cars. April seems to do a better job picking whatever cars she buys anyways, lol!

We had a Camry that we finally got rid of at a little over 250K miles. The engine was fine, though it did burn a little oil, gearbox was fine and the body and interior were still in good shape. It was just a bunch of little things that 15 years of lots of driving in northeastern US winters, that just took its toll. Wheel bearings, corroding brake lines, various pieces of suspension corroding/wearing out, 2 window motors showing their age, etc. We ended up selling it to a tech at the Toyota dealer who could do all that labor for "free" and we, of course, picked up another 2 yr old Camry with about 15K miles and that's good close 80K at this point with no issues so far.

Missed you at Barrett-Jackson. Saw April working ,but didn't catch up with you. I was working at the auction also so hard to get away and see anyone.

You play with cars, there are men that successfully make money $$$ with cars.

See this would be terrible for the average idiot, but Hoovie is not the average idiot, he has figured out a way to nake money even when he's losing money. I'm sure between the videos related to those cars, this one and the ads/sponsors from each of the videos I'm sure he came out ahead. The new garage looks awesome. Every car nuts dream space. Cheers from Canada

You're also paying full retail on your repairs of broken vehicles.

Those Arnott shock on the escalade are known to fail quick. I looked into them for our 08 escalade yesterday and after reading reviews I went with another brand. I also used a Dorman pump with overload safety to keep them from constantly pumping if there was a leak

I"m missing one big part of the equation though.. How much did those 3 cars pay in add revenue? Given that beating on both the Porsche as well as the Land Rover caused quit the commotion I'm sure they must have done pretty good. "Bad" publicity doesn't pay any less. I would love to see whole sum, not just the one fits the narrative.

Capt Hindsight is always late to the planning meeting and early to the lessons learned meeting.
