Had my worst year ever this year lost 42 out of 107 becuse of damp, wet, temp swing. You can bet ill have a new brooder by next year.

I've lost 15 birds at once due to heat also. My birds had plenty of water but it was in the 100's. Now when it's hot like that I also spray them down a bit and give them cut up watermelon. They all seem to pull through then. Enjoy your videos and have learned some great ideas, thank you!

My 10 days chicks are panting a lot. I decided to leave the brooder window open. Hoping they don't suffer heat wave, since I live around a tropical coast where temperatures range UpTo 30°C at night

Weasels can get through 1 inch chicken wire...if you have weasels in the area use hardware cloth.

John I'm just doing research now. Next year I want to move me and my mom to Lancaster County PA. I want to do raising chickens. I have a question about the size needed to make a good income. I know it's not turn key to raise chickens. But the question. How many chickens can you raise on an acre of ground using the pasture raising method. Another way of asking how much money can you make off one acre of ground. I'm hoping to get 10 to 20 acres.

I have ten hens and to keep them cool here in the south I just water down a thick batch of brush and the hens can then hang out most of the day under the shade and cool a guit a bit instead of just burning up It works really well. Not only do they have a cool shady spot to hang out they also like to lay down on the cool ground after it soaks up the drops that fall out of the brush

Would it help to wet the birds with cool water on the hot days? I have used a water hose to cool the birds down in the heat. But, we also try to NOT raise birds during the peak of summer.

How on earth did you get started?!? lol In my area land is through the roof. It's about 20000 an acre, not to mention if it has a house or a barn on it oh my the prices sky rocket. 12 acre farm for 900000 Thats 75000 an acre; sure it has a conventional broiler barn on it but that's no use to a pastured operation. How are you supposed to get a start like that. Another farm I am in love with is 48 acres but its got a tag of 1mill. I am starting a small batch of 20 chickens in my back yard but don't have enough grass to handle any more. Enough with the rambling. Any suggestions on getting a start would be greatly appreciated. side note.. I am reading all of Joels books and will be ordering your literature once I'm done with that. Thanks

Randy, them prices you have for land is crazy, there is no way i would pay that. I would move first. Try short team renting of land, mabe 8 weeks to run a batch of birds. Tell them the benifits of land improvement.

If you are wanting a pasture based business you don’t really need large buildings. And certainly don’t need 48 acres. If your handy try to find something with like 20 acres and a house you can gradually renovate
