I honestly love Jāo! Caffe is my favorite song! Brazil is known for Bossa Nova; it's jazz but with a samba touch (since that's their thing). They have some great oldies like "The Girl from Ipanema (Coisas Mas Linda), which actually inspired the Netflix short series "Coisas Mas Linda" (I highly recommend, by the way). The song is in Portuguese and English. Anything by Astud Gilberto is very good. There's also "So Nice (Summer Samba)," but I only like the version with Marcos Valle.

I think mpb (brazilian popular music) is more intelligible. Some of my favorites: Sozinho - Caetano, Telegrama - Zeca Baleiro, Epitáfio - Titãs, Boa sorte - Vanessa da Mata, João e Maria - Chico Buarque and De janeiro a janeiro - Roberta Campos. Every Brazilian knows at least 2 (maybe 3) of these songs. Btw, great video!

Good luck with your brazilian portuguese journey! I've been studying it for a while now, and with the nasal vowels the best I can say (as a native Australian english speaker) is that it takes time for your mouth muscles (??) to get used to the sound so don't worry too much about being able to pronounce them right away, its like the rolling r in spanish and italian, you just have to keep practicing and wait for time to do its work. As for music, my teacher introduced me to "Anavitória", they are very famous and make pop-folk music. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Shea. I'm so happy you decided to continue with your Brazilian Portuguese studies! I'm excited to see more study vlogs and things like that on your channel. To answer your question...yes, we can absolutely understand what you're saying even if you don't nail the nasal sounds, it's nothing that causes real misunderstandings, just some funny situations (like the famous pau/pão one lol) In terms of music, I don't really know what you're into but you mention that sometimes you like slower/calmer songs so with that in mind, you might like some Caetano Veloso. He's a very famous and respected Brazilian artist, although not necessarily a "current" one. I'm gonna let a few songs here from some different artists if you wanna check it out. Você Não Me Ensinou a Te Esquecer - Caetano Veloso Mais Uma Vez - Renato Russo Por Onde Andei - Nando Reis Malandragem - Cássia Eller Pra Ser Sincero - Engenheiros Do Hawaii À Sua Maneira - Capital Inicial (they're a rock band, but it's more of a chill vibe) Encostar na Tua - Ana Carolina all of these artists are incredibly known in BR but they're not necessarily modern, as in they're not what you'd hear on the radio, but everybody knows them to some extent. For more modern ones with more of a "chill" vibe Jão, WD, and Giulia Be are the only ones I'm more familiar with. I need to listen to more modern Brazilian music, I'm out of the loop lol Anyways, hope this helps a little, and sorry for the long ass comment. :)

I admire your commitment to learn new languages (i personally would like to learn Dutch and Scandinavian languages but I am not a very big fan of self teaching. I would prefer to find a teacher or a physical course but it’s hard to find one ). Anyways, as a 🇧🇷🇮🇹 (I Live in Torino) I can already tell you are very good at learning because in some other videos you speak Italian very well . Keep up with it :)

If you would still like to know more on Brazilian music, you can start looking for "Bossa Nova". I think it's more "chill" like you wanted. And my first recommendation would be Vanessa da Mata's song Good Luck that has verses both in portuguese and English. Hope you like it, if so please make a video on it!

I’ve been studying Portuguese for 9.5 years now and I’ve visited Brasil 18 times but I still can’t read or converse and I have to translate everything into English to understand. I’ve been practicing every day with my girlfriend who only speaks Portuguese and we’ve been practicing for 6.5 years now but I still can’t understand her.

How do you track vocabulary from top 1000 frequency words vs new words you see from reading short stories? This is something I struggle with. Do you keep two decks for example, and study each 15 min a day? Love your videos, thank you so much for the information. It's so helpful to hear how you start studying a new language.

Yeah I don’t think it will, only if you’re shadowing or practicing the new accent, but listening to another accent won’t change your own.
