Plant sweet potato vines... You can root as many as you want by putting cuttings in water and within two-three weeks you have a new plant. They grow fast and will take over the entire side of your fence until you have shrubs. They will die in the winter, but you just take some cuttings inside for the winter and root more for spring planting. They will look really pretty along your fence.

That is a huge stretch of lawn to add to your garden! I’m sure your neighbors will love watching everything grow in and beautify that long stretch of fence. Can’t wait to see what else you add to it!

9:00 Started with one clump of hostas... Then three... Then nine.... Then twenty five... And now I think I'm down to a dozen now, after moving, couldn't dig up every clump🤭. Thise will all be divided this autumn in to halves, thirds or fourths, depending on how well they grew, plant one section back, and find a new home for the others! Thanks for all the tips, I share plants with my neighbor, since no one else in my life likes plants. 😂 Cheers from the southern tip of Ohio!

And yes, the green and variegated hosta can take sun with wet feet... But the blue ones need some shade in the afternoon.
@mycarolinagarden7 ай бұрын
Haha!!! I know this feeling, dividing continually 😂 but I love it so much. You have a lucky neighbor! Thanks for the tip on the variegated hosta. I barely have any shade-loving options since my yard is so sunny, so this works well for me! 🌞

Just discovered your channel. I live in Destin FL zone 8b/9a. Great suggestions. Was wondering how you heat your greenhouse in winter. Thanks again
@mycarolinagarden7 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for your message! I have a ceramic space heater for the greenhouse. Honestly, I have never run it during the day (this was my 2nd winter with the greenhouse), and at night its its only during the really cold periods (you'd have even less in FL). So that system has worked for me 😊

Hi! I’m in zone 8b too! But in Oregon. These are great tips! Thanks for sharing. What’s the best time to divide hostas?
@mycarolinagarden7 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your message. I divide my hostas before they fully leaf out for the season, this way I don't damage any leaves. They're so resilient though, that that's not a hard rule, it just makes life easier 😊

Hi! Have you thought about trying to plant Iris along your swell? They are a bog plant and will thrive in wet conditions. I'm in Louisiana Zone 9B. Happy gardening!
@mycarolinagarden7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! No I hadn't thought about irises before, but someone else happened to mention that earlier today. If you're from Louisiana, I definitely trust that thought 💚 I appreciate you!

@@mycarolinagarden Yes, I am in Louisiana! With my former job, we planted Irises in rain gardens to assist with water run off in neighborhoods that used to flood. I can't wait to watch how your space turns out.

Good luck with having a garden outside the fence near the road. In my neighborhood they cut the flowers, throw trash and let their dogs make a mess. No respect! We actually put the fence up because they were actually coming in halfway up our lawn doing all these things. It was a nice neighborhood when I moved in 13 years ago but now a younger crowd has moved in. 😞

That is such a bummer and upsetting to hear!! All we want is to make our yards beautiful. Disrespectful is right 😕

I'm 33... And there is something missing in people... Not even just the younger group, my mother is that same way, just trashes wherever she is. I moved to Ohio, and the people across the road had so much garbage, never got rid of any appliance or piece of furniture, it just got tossed out in the yard... 😮 Could not stand it, luckily I live on acres and acres of farm land on a quiet lane, which people will occasionally drive and walk down, but there's no outlet. Good idea is to plant prickly plants, like holly, roses, cacti... Or plants that look vicious. Maybe that will send a message... And maybe, just maybe, an appropriate trashcan, chained to the fence... 😂 Sorry you have to deal with all that!

Sorry about that. But keep up the beautiful work. For the few person who disrespect there are more who appreciates.

I love all of your tips Nicole 😊, but still i have to ask you something since you didn't mention it. What are your plans on watering? Are you hoping for the rain to do all the job? Or are you going to put drip irrigation or are you going to hose all over the new beds? Just curious because of course a new garden section means more beautiful plants ☘️ but it also means more watering and fertilizers and all that.
@mycarolinagarden7 ай бұрын
Hi! My husband is coming up with some crafty plan to basically do some DIY irrigation. 😁 I'm not sure how that will work just yet, but I'll share what he puts together when he gets to it. Watering is SUCH a chore, and one of the things I tire of easily in the summer.😴😂
@eedeescottagegarden7 ай бұрын
If you wet the grass really good, then put cardboard down then Black plastic and then mulch. Let it set for 4 to 8 weeks. Then when you pull up the mulch and plastic and the cardboard you will have the most amazing planting ready soil. Love what you're doing its beautiful. Oh, and I would start the cardboard mulch from the other end. So, you can work towards it. The worms will love you.
