Same problem, same solution! I am making a trailer for a game that contains cards, client hasn’t the budget to have something as refined as it would be with a Houdini/Unreal workflow, and it’s nice to use the geo nodes to keep the entire project confined into Blender without the whole hassle of importing and exporting. Thank you for this video, this definitely has saved me a few hours of trials and errors

(ça me semble mega complexe...)

@alexandre.albisser Жыл бұрын

This one made my brain hurt but amazing as well! Wow, thank you so much for sharing the process. Did you by chance make any other videos about this animations? I'm particularly curious on how you achieved the effect of the cards getting cut by the sword? I need to chop a thin object with a pair of scissors and was hoping that would shed some light on how to achieve it.

@alexandre.albisser 4 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it! I don't have anything else on that particular project, but I have yet to make videos on a lot of projects I did since... For the cutting cards, in my case they are not even cut, just animated a slight wobble and that does it! In your case you might get along with animating the edge split along a selected edge loop (existing, or added with the knife tool) and distorting the two sides, hope that can be helpful!

I'm a little confused starting at 2:18. Alexander takes the collection, and when he imports it into the node panel, the collection is called 'Collection Info', but in the video it shows 'Geometry' right below it, while I see 'Instance' . I'm afraid this will ruin everything... Please can anyone help me?? But otherwise, it's a very good tutorial.

@alexandre.albisser
@alexandre.albisser Жыл бұрын
When you instance object from a collection onto a mesh, the order of the objects in the collection is what will be mapped to the point of the mesh on which it is instanced (so the fifth object in the collection will be instanced on the vertex of index 4 (because the first index is zero), knowing that you may be able to get the effect you want!

Hi, great vid! I'm trying to be able to randomize the order of the cards but without having repeat cards. Using a random value on the instance index always gives me duplicate cards. how would I do this?
@alexandre.albisser
@alexandre.albisser Жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! If you are using the collection info node, I believe the index of the cards is determined by either their order in the source collection in the outliner, or their alphabetical order in the collection. So you can either manually shuffle the cards in the collection in the outliner, or use a tweaked version of my shuffle algorithm from my "shuffle objects with a simple script" tutorial, in which you shuffle the names instead of the location or rotation! Hope that helps!
