J70s typically had their side plates removed whenever it was legally allowed, i.e. any time they weren't on a tramway. So it's perfectly legit to run Toby like that.

That Toby is absolutely incredible. I’ve seen few people on KZbin try to do his paint job of when he worked in the LNER. I think the LNER Toby’s paint job is MILES better than his Chocolate brown and Light Blue side plates that Sir Topham Hat decided to give to him.

2:08 I think overall it boils down to that almost all of the models with side plates were sold out almost instantly. In my case anyway but I agree with the value gear and I cracked up when you threw in the wolf whistle! I agree, this is one of your more superior models and it I think the weathering on the LNER livery looks great! I quite like pre-Sodor RWS Toby.

I like how you do the more "industrial" takes on the characters from the Thomas series, it shows how they've been used in service during their "heyday's" with the added grime aiding in the telling of their stories.

Isn't it funny how I do my custom Toby, only for you to upload 2 weeks later? Are you also doing the Scottish bois? All joking aside, it is a cool custom, and I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of the Rapido J70. Even before the repaint I loved mine. Sidenote: Rapido are working on Wisbech and Upwell coaches which will be sold in packs with new numbered J70s, one of which is GER 127 (i.e. the REAL Toby, as referenced in Awdry's lore book)

It’s not that I’m not a fan of them as much as I wasn’t a fan of the big hole the tramplates had when removed; thankfully that’s easily fixed with this guy though :)

What part of America are you thinking? I mean, I've thought of making some OCs based upon a fictional branch of the Denver & Rio Grande (D&RG), since I'm in Colorado and that's what's local. That means I'm looking at Narrow Gauge (3ft Gauge in particular).
