Very cool project, glad I stumbled on your channel. I'd feel a lot more comfortable with it's strength if those internal spacers were steel instead of G10. Love the blade upgrade though 👍
@FittoSurvive2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I appreciate it. Did you know that the original liners are aluminum? So, the G10 is actually significantly stronger and more durable than the original liners were. 🙂
@JasonP6339 Жыл бұрын
Steel would make the whole knife heavy as a mofo....... I don't think you realize just how much weight that would add to make them the same dimensions out of steel..... In thise size and thickness g10 is incredibly strong..... People just see materials that look like regular old plastic and they assume it's brittle, but they just don't realize how far along we are with material sciences...... G10 is amazingly strong, even in thin form factors like this.... And it can't rust or corrode at all....
@ResilienceOnPurpose Жыл бұрын
@@JasonP6339 I'm not "people", I'm someone who makes knives and things out of steel, G10, etc. A piece of steel (which actually IS already used in other tools like this) little more than the size of a shim would add less weight than a few coins in my pocket. G10 is not some modern miracle material, even in thin "form factors". It's just fiberglass and resin and has been used as circuit boards in cheap electronics everywhere for generations because it's cheap. The choice to use it here is aesthetic, because it meets a color theme. Using steel would potentially allow the spacers to even be thinner and cut down the real annoyance of carrying something like this in the pocket; it's bulk.

Looks real good and functional! I might have to try to do one too. I was/am going to try adding a thumb stud (because yes, I'm one of those guys) to a standard SAK blade and move that layer to the right-hand dominate side. The versatility of the Spydie Hole making it ambi friendly is sweet for the majority especially if you were to sale them. I think the only change I would make would only be a personal preference and that would be to grind a bit more on the spring to bring the knife tip up to make it more centered to the axis of the knife handle. Again, that is just a personal aesthetic preference. Great work, love seeing it done! Gonna have to go back and what all your vids now!
@FittoSurvive Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, trying to bring the Dragonfly blade up (more straight), will then make it loose when opened. The pivot bore would have to be moved for that to work.
@korgan7779 Жыл бұрын
@@FittoSurvive Hmm, I see. When I'm working on things like that I've lightly filed either the blade where it bottoms out/rests against the spring ( like L < area) or the spring itself which doesn't affect the pivot at all, just the angle of the open blade. I've made some 'idiot marks' on bolsters doing this because I don't necessarily have correct tooling to do it without having the knife fully disassembled such as with Case/Buck.. In this case since you can disassemble it, it would be very easy, or well easier to not screw up but more time consuming because of the need to mock it up after each adjustment to see if you need to remove more.
