A family member is trying to empty out my dead grandfather’s basement workshop (he was a mechanic post ww2) so I keep going and grabbing as much as I can since it’s vintage tools & more galore. Now I look like a hoarder but I don’t mind, she just rather toss out anvils, vises, and any tool you can imagine pre-1980 so she can fill it with her TjMaxx TRASH. Anyway, I’ve been staring at 15 various brands of multi tools similar to Swiss Army and folding knives in small/medium sizes wishing I could just rearrange them in a way that’ll suit my needs. Like Frankenstein them so I have 5 as opposed to 15 since these are newer I’m guessing 80’s/90’s?

Your grinding will go much smoother if the wheel is centered and balanced on the shaft. If you have a lathe, make a proper flanged arbor with a bored center-hole and tight-fitting register. Once you've done that, you'll be able to dress that CBN wheel properly, truing it up and getting rid of that glazed surface.

I don't have a lathe, but thank you! I will look into that.

@@FittoSurvive As long as there's not any unusual geometry, I can send you an arbor if you take some calipers or micrometers and measure the diameter of the shaft, diameter of the hole in the grinding wheel, thickness of the grinding wheel at the shaft, and approximate length of the unthreaded portion of the shaft. It'll look like what Shop and Math made in his video titled "arbor for diamond wheel". If that's a diamond wheel (not CBN), I'd recommend using a Norton white wheel instead if you're using it for grinding any type of steel, since diamond dissolves into steel at high temperatures.

@@elonquemattheson6151 I appreciate that! I'm going to take it apart and see if I can't figure out how to take care of it. 👍🏻 I'll send you a reply if I can't get it figured out. Thanks again! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

great video! can you also show us how to fit a dragonfly blade into a 93mm spring?
@FittoSurvive3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I have not experimented with the 93mm range yet. But, when I get into that, I will make a video.

Hi there, amazing build. Can you please provide a link for where you source the brass washers that go on the brass rods? I am having trouble buying them online. Thanks
@FittoSurvive Жыл бұрын
The brass washers are hard to find online, I have to harvest them from knives that I disassemble. But, seems like I saw a seller on Aliexpress selling them. Don't know how good they are though.

Interesting project but I would have still used steel as the layers to brace the tools, using the G10 only as the outer case and keyed the surface inside for better epoxy adhesion, G10 is resilient but I would only use it for scale liners or maybe a thick spacer rather than the actual structure to a functional tool, the best part was sneaking the spydie blade on
@FittoSurvive3 жыл бұрын
The original liners are aluminum, which is not that much more rigid than the G10. But I completely understand what you are talking about. Keying the outer liner sounds like a very good idea! I will have to try that. Thanks for the tips!! 👍🏻👍🏻
@WessexBladesHandMadeKnives3 жыл бұрын
@@FittoSurvive I use worn 36 grit 2x72 belt cut into 8" lengths, but some 80 or 120 will be fine on small pieces of liner material, obviously careful of the dust etc
