Just a technical tip. The saw needs to be narrower behind the teeth to prevent binding in the cut. This is called set in a saw. Victorinox emulate set by grinding the blade to taper slightly from teeth to spine.

I'm not going to say that it may not be easier for you, but I'd like you to consider what I say about the sharpening process. When flipping the blade the burr will fold the same way each time and it could make the sharpening process longer, additionally when the blade faces up, you can end up removing more abrasive than necessary. I wish I could do this. Not only is this more advanced than my capabilities will allow, but they’re so small! A family member is trying to empty out my dead grandfather’s basement workshop (he was a mechanic post ww2) so I keep going and grabbing as much as I can since it’s vintage tools & more galore. Now I look like a hoarder but I don’t mind, she just rather toss out anvils, vises, and any tool you can imagine pre-1980 so she can fill it with her TjMaxx TRASH. Anyway, I’ve been staring at 15 various brands of multi tools similar to Swiss Army and folding knives in small/medium sizes wishing I could just rearrange them in a way that’ll suit my needs. Like Frankenstein them so I have 5 as opposed to 15 since these are newer I’m guessing 80’s/90’s?

@@FittoSurvive just visited your website and Instagram and man I am impressed (the website is actually nice too! It’s not junk that got thrown together at a moments notice, and I appreciate that as someone also into technology!). I’m a pretty big knife/edc guy and I have a SAK manager that lives in my EDC on a keychain, but never got deep into the custom SAK’s. Love that you actually show how you do everything, sell it, and are active on your channel. Your work is pretty awesome, I imagine at some point I will pick up a custom or two. Great insider of the process 👍Do you also ReSharper the scissors? Mine struggle to cut through paper after acid and stone washing them. Also I would go with the anodized aluminum science the carbon fiber face won't be visible
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! No, I do not resharpen the scissors. Haven't had any problems with them being sharp. If I am not mistaken, the Victorinox scissors are supposed to be self sharpening. You are correct, if I do the carbon fiber liners it will just be greyish-black.

@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad that you enjoyed the video and the knife! Simple mods would be replacing the scales with some titanium scales and maybe adding some colored picks and scales. Disassembling the knife is always a big dive, but once you do it then there are all kinds of mods that become available. But expect to ruin the first knife that you disassemble. 😂

Your grinding will go much smoother if the wheel is centered and balanced on the shaft. If you have a lathe, make a proper flanged arbor with a bored center-hole and tight-fitting register. Once you've done that, you'll be able to dress that CBN wheel properly, truing it up and getting rid of that glazed surface.
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a lathe, but thank you! I will look into that.
@elonquemattheson6151
@elonquemattheson6151 3 жыл бұрын
@@FittoSurvive As long as there's not any unusual geometry, I can send you an arbor if you take some calipers or micrometers and measure the diameter of the shaft, diameter of the hole in the grinding wheel, thickness of the grinding wheel at the shaft, and approximate length of the unthreaded portion of the shaft. It'll look like what Shop and Math made in his video titled "arbor for diamond wheel". If that's a diamond wheel (not CBN), I'd recommend using a Norton white wheel instead if you're using it for grinding any type of steel, since diamond dissolves into steel at high temperatures.

Interesting project but I would have still used steel as the layers to brace the tools, using the G10 only as the outer case and keyed the surface inside for better epoxy adhesion, G10 is resilient but I would only use it for scale liners or maybe a thick spacer rather than the actual structure to a functional tool, the best part was sneaking the spydie blade on
@FittoSurvive
@FittoSurvive 3 жыл бұрын
The original liners are aluminum, which is not that much more rigid than the G10. But I completely understand what you are talking about. Keying the outer liner sounds like a very good idea! I will have to try that. Thanks for the tips!! 👍🏻👍🏻
