These came out so pretty and that’s ingenious having them in bigger tubs like that! Must make it so much easier to handle and high end feeling like that Chanel bronzer

Hey Erin! Loved this video, thanks for sharing with us! I just tried this with a hairdryer as promised 😁 Unfortunately the container was blowing across the table, and when I tried holding the container my hand was getting burned and I couldn't hold it long enough for the product to melt. The container was glass so what I did in the end was put it in the microwave. I started with 30 seconds, then took it out and mixed it. Then I kept putting it back in for 10 seconds at a time, mixing it in between each cycle, until it was melted enough to cover the bottom of the jar. I think it took about 70 or 80 seconds total time in the microwave. I now have a beautiful cream blush that I can't wait to try! It's made up of two MAC mini lipsticks, Candy Yum Yum and Official Star (a LE light gold metallic colour). The resulting colour is a gorgeous purpley pink with a gold sheen. I have dubbed it Candy Star 🤣 It's so great that I made a product that I'm so excited to use from two products that have been sitting unused for years. Thank you for inspiring me 😘

Someone else commented that they used a hair dryer and held the jar with a pair of tongs to keep it from blowing away! I’ve thought about using the microwave or the oven before to melt things, but low and slow is the key to not burn the product. I am THRILLED that you were able to make a beautiful product out of two lipsticks that were not getting any love!! I also love that you named your new blush!! I was thinking about coming up with names for mine also!! I am so happy that you were able to get some inspiration from my videos!!! ❤️

I also use the microwave in 15 second bursts, making sure to give time in between each "session" to mix the product and let it cool a bit so it doesn't burn. So far it has worked beautifully

@@erintaylorwrites I might try the hairdryer again if I'm working with metal pans. I sort of had to name my new shade (although it was fun). I'm a software developer so I have my inventory in an SQL database, and the shade name is required in my shade name column! I think this is one of the reasons I love your content so much. You go into so much detail which really appeals to my nerdiness 😁 Also you are so genuinely lovely 🙂

@erintaylorwrites I melted together a few different products to alter the color of the sol bronzer (it was way too orange). I mixed it with a makeup revolution bronzer, maybelline green color corrector stick, too faced sweet peach concealer, and maybelline superstay lipstick - a wild concoction of products I wasn't using. The amazing thing is that it works well enough but time will tell if I end up enjoying it longterm

Erin - does it worry you that you might be breaking down the plastic of the container into the product? I wonder if melting in a glass container, then pouring into the plastic container might be better. Enjoyed this video! TFS…Lorie 😊
@erintaylorwrites
@erintaylorwrites 5 ай бұрын
I have considered this. Some plastics hold up better than others. The Sol Body bronzer balm container does not hold up to heat at all! I do have the little glass beakers that I heat up my lip products when I am making lipsticks, but maybe I think of that more since it is going on my lips and can be ingested rather just topically on my cheeks. With how much product I end up getting, I think even the little bit of waste that would be left in a glass container wouldn't really matter. I will look for some good glass container to use just for my cream products in the future! Thank you for making me think about this some more!! ❤️

Hey! Just popping back in to say I got a heat gun, so I can start my own cream-product frankening journey in earnest. I'm looking into getting some small Pyrex beakers, too, so I can make my franken-mess without worry, then pour the final hot product into a plastic pot rather than risk melting the pot with the gun. Don't know when I'll actually get around to doing all that, but I'm getting excited just contemplating the possibilities.

I used the Urban Decay Naked Heat for the look and I can let you know what shades I used! Cayenne in the mid-crease. Sauced in the inner crease. Ashes in the outer crease. On the lid I have Ember on the outer lid and Lumbre on the inner lid. Grab some warm browns and a fun copper shimmer and it's such an easy look! ❤️

Hi Erin, I’m fairly new to your channel and love the idea of getting use out of products that don’t work for whatever reason (color isn’t as expected, etc.). I’m also a Virgo so I’m completely on board with spreadsheets and not letting anything go to waste! Many years ago when I was a stay-at-home Mom I relied heavily on my spreadsheets for our budget, especially in the grocery area! Anyway, I was wondering if you have any videos on frankening powder eyeshadows? I have some colors that just don’t work for me that I think I could turn into something more useful and keep me from buying more than I need or can reasonably use. I saw the repressing of the highlighters video…is the technique similar to that? Sorry for the long comment. I hope you have some helpful tips! Thanks in advance!

@@Livelaughlove1968 Hey and welcome!! I love long comments and I love having conversations with our people who want to get the most out of what they have! And it helps that you are a Virgo 😊 I've not done much with repressing shadows, because I tend to leave my palettes alone. I have repressed a cream shade that I use to set my eye primer, but have not filmed it. If you saw the highlighter video, I would say it is much the same. If you want to get fancy, the 26mm blank wax seal press fits perfectly on 26mm pans of shadow. Otherwise I have found a very quick way to repress, as long as you are ok with a little texture on the shadow and not a flat smooth finish. Keep the powder and rubbing alcohol paste as thick/dry as possible, this won't work if there is too much liquid. But once the shadow is back in the pan, press it lightly with just your fingers and a tissue, then turn it upside down and press it into a towel (I have my wash clothes). So towel, tissue, then product. Press onto the back of the metal pan. It is how I repressed all my blushes and it has a cool wavy texture to the top of the product and it was so much easier than pressing with something about the same size as the pan. Maybe I need to do a short on this. 🤦🏻‍♀ Let me know if any of that makes sense! ❤

@@erintaylorwrites That makes total sense and I’m so glad I asked! It might be nice to have a short video to demonstrate, but I think I get it. I might play around with my eye shadows this weekend so I’ll let you know how they turn out. Thanks again! 😊
