I can second on that free advice. Be it logs or anything else, don’t leave it in front of your trailers. Also, I used to be that guy that would take any little bit of scrap and save it for taking to the yard. I’m finding more and more that it’s not worth my time. Which is a good thing. It means my time/labor is more valuable than it used to be.

We are not allowed to landfill stuff like that in the UK, our dump is a series of containers for all the different stuff , you have to place each item in its correct container, these are then recycled.

It's that way most places even in the US. Thought what people put out at the curb that have curbside pickup for their recyclables and garbage it's hard to say if the Garbage company takes it to landfill or they sort it out before loading the trucks that hall to the landfill.

I'm having knives made currently by a knife maker using old blades. Plan is to trade him a oak burl I'll be cutting him on the sawmill.
@boooshes
@boooshes Жыл бұрын
A couple things to consider 1. Most knife makers will already have an overwhelming supply of this type of reuse metal on hand. 2. Many knife makers want a specific alloy with known properties for their knives so that exacting hardness and toughness can be achieved through heat treating. Do much time goes into the making that the cost of the raw material is not a big factor.
@mazevx2451
@mazevx2451 Жыл бұрын
@boooshes over here you can't get stuff like this, and you can get the alloy from the manufacturer there's also the idea of sustainable design and Damascus from different saw blades looks fantastic as well

Used to think those powered grease guns were ridiculous kinda like a electric toothbrush lol At my newish job we have bearings that need greased multiple times a day and sometimes it’s difficult to pump a manual gun because the lines to get the grease to the bearings are 10 feet long and it’s cold here in Michigan. Have you considered making/modifying a chain conveyor for sawdust removal through the wall and directly into a trailer. Then you only have to push up the sawdust a couple of feet for cleanup. Plus, you can carry the trailer directly to the compost pile. And if you have walnut, you can dump the trailer at the burn pile. And slabs and cut-offs are sold here for firewood. If you let them, people will come haul away your slabs and cutoffs for free.. Or they may pay you or Bruno (for handling the marketing).. Strapped 3ft x 10 foot bundles of slabs go for $30 here..

John Haas, Our local metal recycle center where my cousin works ships all their metal back to China currently, the diesel it takes to transport the metal from TN to the port then on a ship to China pretty much cancels out the recycling of it, way more pollution is produced by shipping it to China than me throwing it in the landfill, also the recycle center and land fill I showed in the video is just over the state line in VA, not in my home state of TN, I live about 5 miles from Virginia, I conduct a lot of business over there, thanks for watching

Taking things to the dump... I'm watching from suburban Chicago (have been for years), where the population of the metro area is about 20 to 25% MORE than the entire state of Tennessee. We take things to the curb...the end of the driveway..., and the local waste management company picks everything up once or twice a week depending on what neighborhood you live in. Big items like refrigerators, couches, beds - you just phone the company, pay an extra couple of dollars, and they pick those up too. And where it's all dumped is affectionately known as 'Mount Trashmore'. It would give some of the smaller Tennessee hills a run for their money. "Scavengers" come around the evening before 'trash day', in beat up old pick up trucks, and pick up metal items of all kind, and then take their truck to a local metal recycler.
@vince9486
@vince9486 Жыл бұрын
You could ask a local scrapper to come by and pick up your metal. You don't have to go to the landfill with it and they aggregate to their total weight. In the end you save money. There is someone who collects scrap in your area just ask around. Every little bit helps and as my very young daughter the accountant says nickels make dimes.

Actually having a BIG HEAVY log in front of your trailers is a real good idea and get some apple tags and find a frame or channel with a hole and drop in or superglue it and set it and leave it, being preventative is better than looking for a needle in Tenn. unfortunately it is a big problem in S.C along with boats and RV's anything with a hitch.

A 8 foot 17inch log has around 84 bf doyal minus a inch or 2 for sweep and about 20% over run with a woodmizer compaired to doyal scale guessing around 85 to 90 bf of clear wood. I like the lt40 there at the end we bought a lt super hydraulic back in 88 was a dang good mill put almost 6k hours on it with the original onan motor. You've probably spotted it already Nathan, but my 'engineer's eye' picked up that the non operators end of the bed was deflecting a little bit, as the carriage advanced. Maybe half a turn up on the legs at that end? I don't even know that it would have any effect, but I know you are a stickler for accuracy. I wonder if you have to pay for having a trailer load at the dump? The two council tips available to me do not allow trailers, period. Unless I pay for them (north of $50 per visit) and they are extremely picky about what I could tip. The most likely scenario; they would have a row of skips and I'd have to sort the load myself into the appropriate skip. Have a good one.
