How I Make My Fabric Beads - Requested Video - Part 1
I was asked by a lovely subscriber if I had any videos on making fabric beads. I did not because I had never made any fabric or paper beads. She asked if I would do one showing my take on making fabric beads and I said yes. So, I sat down and figured out how I would make my beads and then filmed it for you guys. Enjoy.
Find me on Instagram and my Blog. Links are on my "About" page on KZbin and also in the large image at the top of my channel.
What is Sari Ribbon
Sari ribbons are strips of waste fabric tied together and sold in lengths of yards usually that the manufacturer did not use to make Sari's which are garments that look like really big scarves worn around the head, shoulders and waist. If you Google "Sari" you can get a very detailed description of what they actually are...better than mine. lol

Hi Mona :-) Thank you for watching. Gosh, has it been that long since this video went up? Time is flying! I hope you have fun making beads. These were a lot of fun to make. You probably noticed I didn't use a straw or anything in the center to support them. They worked out fine for me and are still doing well. I do think using a straw is a good idea though and I have some things I have been saving to make more beads so give both ways a try and see what you like better. It's also fun to use wire and tiny beads on them so use whatever you have. I'm excited just thinking about making them. lol You have re-interested me. lol Have fun and thanks again. :-)

So I made a few of these, and now I am HOOKED! These are fabulous. You know one thing I discovered is, I have a whole stash of those tiny little seed beeds, that I have been storing (hoarding...=) for years. So, I put alittle glue on the bead base, rolled them in the beads and they are wonderful!!!! This is so much fun. Thank you again.

Hi Laurie, When I teach a bead class, I have them fit as many as they can on a skewer and we then poke the pointed end of the skewer into a piece of shipping foam to dry while we work on a second skewer. A fun class for pre teens and Moms. I provide all the scraps, trim, skewers and even small sample size tacky glue bottles. A great way to clear out lots of bits and pieces.

I tried using the glue in the squeeze bottle, i had to squeeze with my might to squeeze the glue out, why is that?
@BlackbearyForest
@BlackbearyForest 3 жыл бұрын
Hi again Zena :-) Hmmm, well, I really don't know the answer to that but I'll give you some of my thoughts on it. Maybe someone else will see this message and chime in too. I've had glue difficult to squeeze from the bottle too. Most times it's because it's a thicker glue. Maybe it's older and drying out. I've also found that sometimes the hole the glue comes through isn't large enough. It's too much of a pinhole so it needs just a bit more room. I usually take a pin and open it a bit more. And sometimes the glue has dried in the lid blocking the hole some or even completely so I have to clean out the lid. It could just be the brand and the way the glue is made. See if the hole is large enough or dried over. You can water down some glues but I rarely do that. There may be a way to soften glues in the bottle but I've never done it. Just search google for ways to soften glue and see if anything helps you. I hope one of these ways works for you. :-) In the end, if I have a glue that gives me too much trouble I just change glue. lol Have a great New Year :-)

Laurie I'm new here, I have been watching this video. so simple not to detailed with bunch of other materials I can't really afford. Thank you very kindly for sharing this video.

@BlackbearyForest 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Yolanda. Welcome. I'm glad you are here and I am glad you enjoyed the video. :-) As for the fibers I used on my beads. I purchased those fibers at a quilt shop many years ago. But I have seen fibers like that in other places. I would look at places like Hobby Lobby, Michaels or whatever hobby store you have near you. I would look in the yarn section and I would also look in the area where they sell embellishments for scrapbooking because I have seen fibers like that in that section as well. You could also check quilt shops. Sometimes they carry fibers to incorporate into quilting or clothing. Also try fabric stores. Again, look in the yarn section as well as the scrapbook supply section. You can also just look online at places like Etsy and even Amazon. I did a search on Etsy for "fibers for art" and some beautiful fibers came up in the listing. I hope this is helpful and I hope you are able to find what you are looking for. :-)

Can we use hot glue to seal fabric together permanently?
@BlackbearyForest
@BlackbearyForest 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Zena :-) Sure, you can use hot glue if you like. I rarely use hot glue but if I was going to use it I would use the low temp glue just to save my fingers from getting hot glue on them. If you only have hot glue just be careful! :-) If you want a more "permanent" hold I still think stitching is the best option. :-)

@BlackbearyForest
@BlackbearyForest 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Robin. I have not used Elmers on beads before but I have used it on other projects where I glued fabric and it seemed to work fine. You will have to hold it longer to make sure the glue grabs and starts setting up though so that is one reason I tend to use other glues on fabric....unless I can clip it and don't have to hold it. I get tired of holding. lol The one thing I'm not sure about is longevity. Nothing wrong with giving it a go though and seeing what happens. :-)
