I’ve been taking apart ps2 consoles for more than 20 years now. I started out with repairing the infamous Disk Read Error. In all my years of opening consoles for this or that repair, and the few mods I’ve done myself, I’ve never seen such a skill level. It’s beautiful and artistic really! Everything from the care taken jn wiring layout to the soldering. I would very much like to purchase one of these, but I’d want HDMI as well. Very nice work! Kudos to you! Any thumbs down to this video would be just total ignorance and hating for no reason

You can find the original user guides for the 806HD using archive org but the information is useless. Even compatibility is wrong. Really impressive... How do the loading speeds from the SD card compare to loading speeds from a DVD, or from a USB drive?
@nosaizen10232 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine SD card and DVD loading are similar in speed save for rare cases. Because the PS2 is as old as it is, it doesn't benefit from increased load speed from Solid State storage like modern consoles, but that doesn't mean there's no upside. SD cards use less power than disc drives or HDD's. USB drives are slower, SD and DVD loading are faster. It's not because flash drives are slow. Ps2 uses USB 1.1, which is over 20 years old! very slow! We have USB 3.0 now, but 2.0 has been the standard for a long time. I know a lot of people use Raspberry Pi's connected to the PS2 through Ethernet to load games faster.
@goumods77622 жыл бұрын
Actually, in most cases the speed of the SD is faster than DVD. Yes, it is an IDE interface, but the random reads are massively faster in the SD cards than in regular HDDs, and especially DVDs.

I'm curious, couldn't you do this without any modchips? You could do away with the mod chip and only add the IDE sd card, and instead just have FHDB installed on it, then you can have other apps too like emulators and media players as well as OPL for games :) (Though I'm sure that's possible with the mod chip too) The only thing you'd loose is playing backup/wrong region games, which I guess is important for other people, but it would still be possible with ESR patched discs One thing that'd be awesome would be to flash the SD card with PSBBN, so you can get that awesome PSX style dvr interface on your ps2 slim :)
@goumods77622 жыл бұрын
You could do it without a modchip of course, but the goal was to make something like "the ultimate slim ps2". Unfortunately fhdb will not work on slims, so that is a no go. I read somewhere that the bios of the slim is missing some stuff that is required by fhdb. You can still use fmcb, but i dont think its worth it when you already have the system open and heavily modded. Why bother patching discs when you can just burn isos and use the modchip to boot them ;) I am not sure if psbbn would work on a slim. Havent tried it. But i would assume it doesnt work.

Did you used a 44 pin ide to sd or a 40 pin ide to sd?

I used a 44 pin, but a 40 pin would work too. It's just too big to fit inside the console

Great video.... how i can put a SSD in a ps2 slim ?
@televisionandcheese2 жыл бұрын
If you use a PS2 slim model SCPH 70000 , and solder the IDE interface to a IDE to SATA adapter, you can then attach any sata SSD. You may struggle finding room inside the PS2 case though.

hi, im from argentina and i have some questions, thanks in advance for the response. 1: does every SD work? cause here those arent cheap, but usb sticks are. i know the issues about the speed and stutter, but, for the price, we do what we can with what we have, so, does every sd card works, whats that an ide to sd adaptor? any brand in particular? 2: theres some way to use the same IDE points and use a sata 2.5" hdd? like the hdd carry cases to usb, but instead of usb, directly into those 40 pin ide points. ive seen mods with 2.5 hdd IDE (today rare or non existing old notebook disks) working, but there aint nowhere to find even one.

Hey. I am surprised to hear that! microSD cards are cheap here. Not as cheap as USB drives, but they are not that much more expensive than regular USB sticks. Yes, any (128GB or less)microSD card should work. There is only one 2.5 IDE to SD adapter on the market. Yes, you can do this with a 2.5 HDD. I have done it before and it works fine. But the problem with that is that you will have to keep it outside of the console. I have tried to make one with an internal HDD, but the console was constantly overheating because of the HDD.
