I’ve been taking apart ps2 consoles for more than 20 years now. I started out with repairing the infamous Disk Read Error. In all my years of opening consoles for this or that repair, and the few mods I’ve done myself, I’ve never seen such a skill level. It’s beautiful and artistic really! Everything from the care taken jn wiring layout to the soldering. I would very much like to purchase one of these, but I’d want HDMI as well. Very nice work! Kudos to you! Any thumbs down to this video would be just total ignorance and hating for no reason

It would be cool to have a HDMI PS2 but I doubt it's as easy as just attaching a HDMI connector to it. I was forced to buy an original PS3 to do it. Oh well. I'm no electrician anyway.

Oh man, this is amazing craftsmanship! I hope you'll keep making these for a while. I looked into how to handle SD-loading and region-free games on PS2 and this is by far the best solution I could find... but while I'm comfortable soldering easier projects, this is way out of my league, so I'm definitely planning on buying one of these from you in the future.

This video is absolutely breathtaking to watch and rewatch, Gou Mods! The difference in quality and craftsmanship, not to mention technique, is far beyond what I've seen elsewhere and adding Ratchet & Clank music is a great addition and sells the whole process and makes it even cooler to watch and experience. As a bonus for anyone interested, I've started compiling a list of the songs Gou Mods used in this video with some timestamps for reference. Thanks again Gou Mods. Ratchet & Clank Music List: 100%-ed 0:00 - 3:07 Ratchet & Clank: 2 Going Commando (Hoverbike Race) - Replay 3:07 - 7:30 R&C: 2 Going Commando (Wupash Nebula) - Space Battle 7:30 - 11:37 R&C: 1 (Eudora) - Logging Site 11:37 - 15:56 R&C: 1 (Umbris) - Quark's HQ 15:57 - 19:51 R&C: 1 (Veldin in Peril) - Kyzil Plateau 19:51 (Features A Sneaky cut to the next song without fading like the rest did) 19:51 - 22:14 R&C: 1 (Quartu) - Robot Plant

@@goumods7762 thanks brotha! Love yours as well. Just recently got my hands on som Mars Pro GM-806hds and installing one in a v12 right now :D I really like have yours mounted here so I'm going to give that a shot. Do you know what the different button combos for this chip? I see that holding triangle boots to OPL for your setup, That that point the modchip to boot from an elf file in a specific location? I'm just curious how one goes about booting elf files with these chips, I found the diagrams for these chips but I'm not finding much user guide tips.
@goumods7762
@goumods7762 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry i dont check this channel very often. I wouldnt mount a modchip like that in a regular console. It works with what i am doing because i'm removing the metal shield. Triangle boots BOOT/BOOT.ELF (DEV1) L1 disables the chip Square boots in DMS configurator (but just like all other DMS4 Lite clones you cant save settings) PS1 mode can be forced by reseting the console twice(only needed on 9000x models) User guides for those clones were always crap. You can find the original user guides for the 806HD using archive org but the information is useless. Even compatibility is wrong. They list the 7500x as supported, but i have tried more than 5 by now and they never work. They work fine on all other slims though.

@@goumods7762 Maybe you can build your own DIY MX4SIO if you are interested in it! ;) It's basically a MemoryCard to SD-Adapter, Plug&Play and portable, faster than USB (most FMVs already run quite good on some cards), etc. The DIY version is VERY easy to build. It is basically some wires and one 47Ohm (or an alternative wiring uses an additional 10kOhm pull-up resistor on the Data-line, which seems to increase card and game compatibility).

@@tayfun366 Yes, there are, and yes obviously the drive is the best way to play your games when it comes to compatibility. USB is the worst and HDD is the best way to play games from an external drive on a PS2. You can find compatibility lists online if you google it

On the V13 board there are these same points on the mod ide, I did it and it didn't work, can you tell me if it works on the V13?
@goumods7762
@goumods7762 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it works on both the v12 and v13. The process is identical. You probably have a weak solder joint or a bridge somewhere. The video shows a v13 board even.

Really impressive... How do the loading speeds from the SD card compare to loading speeds from a DVD, or from a USB drive?
@nosaizen1023
@nosaizen1023 2 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine SD card and DVD loading are similar in speed save for rare cases. Because the PS2 is as old as it is, it doesn't benefit from increased load speed from Solid State storage like modern consoles, but that doesn't mean there's no upside. SD cards use less power than disc drives or HDD's. USB drives are slower, SD and DVD loading are faster. It's not because flash drives are slow. Ps2 uses USB 1.1, which is over 20 years old! very slow! We have USB 3.0 now, but 2.0 has been the standard for a long time. I know a lot of people use Raspberry Pi's connected to the PS2 through Ethernet to load games faster.
@goumods7762
@goumods7762 2 жыл бұрын
Actually, in most cases the speed of the SD is faster than DVD. Yes, it is an IDE interface, but the random reads are massively faster in the SD cards than in regular HDDs, and especially DVDs.

I'm curious, couldn't you do this without any modchips? You could do away with the mod chip and only add the IDE sd card, and instead just have FHDB installed on it, then you can have other apps too like emulators and media players as well as OPL for games :) (Though I'm sure that's possible with the mod chip too) The only thing you'd loose is playing backup/wrong region games, which I guess is important for other people, but it would still be possible with ESR patched discs One thing that'd be awesome would be to flash the SD card with PSBBN, so you can get that awesome PSX style dvr interface on your ps2 slim :)
@goumods7762
@goumods7762 2 жыл бұрын
You could do it without a modchip of course, but the goal was to make something like "the ultimate slim ps2". Unfortunately fhdb will not work on slims, so that is a no go. I read somewhere that the bios of the slim is missing some stuff that is required by fhdb. You can still use fmcb, but i dont think its worth it when you already have the system open and heavily modded. Why bother patching discs when you can just burn isos and use the modchip to boot them ;) I am not sure if psbbn would work on a slim. Havent tried it. But i would assume it doesnt work.

Hi! Nice video congratulations! I would like to do the same job you did in the video with my PS2 V12, but in my case I'm using a MicroSD to IDE adapter (not SD Card to IDE adapter). Looking carefully at your video and following the diagrams found on the internet, I noticed that pin number 28 (SPSYNC: CSEL) you connected it to the GROUND. Is it correct? Should pin 28 also be connected to GROUND? Thank you very much!

If you use a PS2 slim model SCPH 70000 , and solder the IDE interface to a IDE to SATA adapter, you can then attach any sata SSD. You may struggle finding room inside the PS2 case though.

hi, im from argentina and i have some questions, thanks in advance for the response. 1: does every SD work? cause here those arent cheap, but usb sticks are. i know the issues about the speed and stutter, but, for the price, we do what we can with what we have, so, does every sd card works, whats that an ide to sd adaptor? any brand in particular? 2: theres some way to use the same IDE points and use a sata 2.5" hdd? like the hdd carry cases to usb, but instead of usb, directly into those 40 pin ide points. ive seen mods with 2.5 hdd IDE (today rare or non existing old notebook disks) working, but there aint nowhere to find even one.
@goumods7762
@goumods7762 3 жыл бұрын
Hey. I am surprised to hear that! microSD cards are cheap here. Not as cheap as USB drives, but they are not that much more expensive than regular USB sticks. Yes, any (128GB or less)microSD card should work. There is only one 2.5 IDE to SD adapter on the market. Yes, you can do this with a 2.5 HDD. I have done it before and it works fine. But the problem with that is that you will have to keep it outside of the console. I have tried to make one with an internal HDD, but the console was constantly overheating because of the HDD.
